The movie Alice through the Looking Glass and the book The City of Ember are very similar. They are similar in conflict, and the main characters. But they are also different in theme. Alice through the looking glass is about a girl who tryings to go back in time to save her friend, The Mad Hatter. Lina is a girl who is stuck in a city underground and tries to get out using a passageway. These two may sound different but they are actually the same. The theme of Alice through the Looking Glass would be that you can’t change the past but you can learn from it. Alice learned that when she tried to stop the Red Queen in the past. This led the Red Queen from turning evil. The theme of The City of Ember would be to never give up on your dreams, because Lina thought there was a way to get out of the city when no one believed her. But, there was a way out. As you can see the themes between these two stories are different. …show more content…
Alice faces this when the Red Queen was against her. Time was also against Alice. Time was mad at Alice when she took the Chronosphere. Time was mad because the Chronosphere could destroy Time itself. Lina faced society when the mayor and the city all disagreed with her about finding a way out of Ember. Even though Lina was right in the end, only her friend was on her side. All of the city tried to tell Lina that the only light in the world is Ember and the rest is darkness. Lina found a way to use the pipeworks to find a way out with a map. The conflict is the same but, the concept is
The Looking Glass Wars wrote by Frank Beddor is a rewritten version of Alice in Wonderland where Alyss, the princess of Wonderland, is forced to leave her beloved home because of her Aunt Redd that has overpowered the Queendom. Alyss finds herself all alone in an unknown place that does not believe in Wonderland. She returns to Wonderland to fight Redd for the Queendom. This rewrite of Alice in Wonderland really shows the battles of Good vs. Evil with the death of King Nolan, the overthrow of the Queendom ruled by Queen Genevieve, and the final fight for the queendom.
By Frank Beddor’s The Looking Glass Wars, he retells the story of Alice in Wonderland by putting it in the perspective of Alyss as the princess of Wonderland, when she is forced to flee Wonderland when her Aunt Redd (Queen Genevieve’s sister) comes to retake her throne. Alyss ends up in Victorian London and is separated from her keeper Hatter Madigan. Beddor changes the story to provide good significance and inspiring themes to give good imagery throughout the story. For example, in the story Queen Genevieve, Hatter, and Alyss forget their own survival to sacrifice themselves for the good of others.
a good example of conflicts of opinions in society, is the Confederate Flag. recently we have seen the confederate flag removed from goverment buildings. One group belive that it is a reminder of slaver
The similarities between The City of Ember novel and film are, Doon finds a room filled with food. Lina, Doon and Poppy escape during the Singing, and Lina, and Doon drop a note down to the city. Doon finds a room filled with food. This matters because if Doon and Lina never told the mayor to stop stealing then they would have never got the key to escape. Also, if Lina, Doon and Poppy didn’t escape during the Singing, then they would’ve got catch and never escape the city. Then, if Lina and Doon never drop the note down to the city then, no one would know how and where to escape. These are the some similarities between The City of Ember novel and film.
People read countless stories that have a variety of themes in them. When people read “Angela's Ashes” by Frank McCourt, and “The Street” by Ann Petry, they can probably sense that there is something similar among the two stories', and that's because they share a common theme. The theme is how people can persevere through problems that they encounter. The reader will discover this similar theme of persevering through problems with the way the authors utilize the character of characters feelings and personality, the way setting creates a backdrop that establishes the tone of the story, and events that cause conflict to the character.
In The Looking Glass Wars by Frank Beddor the story of Alice in Wonderland is told from the opposite viewpoint. In this story Alyss Heart is the princess of Wonderland, and not a little girl from London. Alyss is forced to leave her homeland when both of her parents are killed by her evil Aunt Redd. When Alyss finds herself alone in England and must find her way back to Wonderland to defeat her evil Aunt. By switching storylines, Beddor shows significant themes that are developed throughout the story. For example, the theme violence or vengeance is show at times such as Redd and Genevieve, Dodge , and when Alyss faces her evil Aunt Redd.
The struggle is defined as who has power and control each side has their own beliefs and concerns and the different angles are presented well in Rip Van Winkle by Washington Irving, “Tecumseh’s speech to the Osages”, and Benjamin Franklin’s Remarks

The conflict perspective, or conflict theory, derives from the ideas of Karl Marx, who believed society is a dynamic entity constantly undergoing change driven by class conflict. Conflict theorists generally see social change as abrupt, even revolutionary, rather than incremental (https://courses.lumenlearning.com).
Did you know a story about neighbors tearing each other apart and a teenage girl trying to save her family are actually very alike stories? They both have some themes that are the same. The theme is the “big idea” or the main message the author is trying to get across. A Wrinkle in Time is a book about a young teenage girl trying to save her family from a mind controlling evil called IT. The Monsters Are Due on Maple Street is a play about a flash and bang that causes some un-normal thing. The neighbors accuse each other for the mysterious things to the point where they destroy each other. Whether it’s a story about tearing each other down or saving your family, stories can have alike themes but can also be very different at the same time.
Another example of this conflict is shown when Howard is defending himself in court. He describes how everyone in history who had an idea was always criticized. People didn’t like individuality, but eventually people came around to the ideas. He feels that
To begin with one similarity in the theme of both stories is bitterness. Why this is because in Alice through the looking glass the white queen lied to the red queen about eating the tarts and crusts. An explanation of this is the mother of both children found crusts under the red queen bed so the red queen said that was my sister that put them there and so the white queen lied. Some other evidence from the text Gregor the Overlander is Henry ares bond lied to ares about him trying to the kill the only good rat Ripred.
There are similarities in both of the books and here are some. At the start of the City of Ember Lina and Doon which are the 2 main characters they both get jobs that they do not want but the other person wants them and they work together to trade jobs so that the other person gets what jobs they want. In the start of the book the SpiderWick Chronicles the family of 4 have to move and the mom says that this is a chanCity of Ember
The conflict perspective highlights the notion that society consists of individuals of different social classes and status groups that are of conflicting self- interests. As
At the mention of the name Alice, one tends to usually think of the children’s stories by Lewis Carroll. Namely, Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland and Through the Looking Glass are two classic works of children’s literature that for over a century have been read by children and adults alike. These two stories tell the tale of a young girl named Alice who finds herself in peculiar surroundings, where she encounters many different and unusual characters. Although Alice is at the centre of both stories, each tale is uniquely different in its purpose, characters and style.
