Similarities Between Civil Rights And Civil Liberties

Our country began and originated from people who sought not only a religious freedom, but a new life that gave them a liberty to govern their own and not be under unjustified rulers. This was how the foundation of the United States government began and has progressed into the democracy we know today. As a country we introduced the Bill of rights to the people which gave citizens’ rights that are to be guaranteed by the first 10 amendments for individual freedom. This is what Civil liberties are all about, the protection against government actions from something written on the bill of rights. However, there are also Civil rights, Civil rights are the basic right to be guaranteed equal treatments that allows all citizens to be treated the same without the interference of race, gender, sexual orientation or any other characteristic deemed important.
These two can sound very similar and might even be the same concept to majority of the people, however there are a few differences that show how each one is important and represents a body of our democracy in a way that is different from the other one. Civil Liberties is what is essentially our constitutional right and protection from against governmental freedoms, meaning these are our most basic freedoms. On the other hand, we also have Civil rights, these rights are our constitutional rights to due process and protection by the law, these are made so as not to be discriminatory towards all people.
