I think that the issues presented in the movie Good Night and Good Luck are important to the history of television because Ed Murrow had the courage to step up and challenge senator of Wisconsin Joseph McCarthy about many of the issues that were going on in the early 1950. Murrow was brave enough to report that people rights were being violated by not providing enough evidence and judging them. For example the lady that was in court for supposable ties with communism and was fired from her job without further investigation. In addition, he also reported about the air force officer that was dismissed from the air force just because his dad had ties with communist. This officer didn’t even had the opportunity to have a fair trial he was found guilty without any evidence. They were harassed or threaten to lose their sponsorship to their programming if they didn’t follow directions. However Murrow’s honesty and courage was stronger than the harassment made about him losing his job if he continued to report on controversial issues. Another thing that I also found interesting how people didn’t have the right to a fair hearing during that mandate of McCarthy. I just think that it was very unfair to many people that were accused of having ties with communist or being a communist because they would lose their job without further investigation. Furthermore, I also found interesting how a Joe and Shirley couldn’t work together because they married and it was against policy rules. They had to hide their marriage from everyone to avoid being fired from their job. I just found this very unfair because there was not conflict of interest since they both worked as reporters and neither one had higher authority over the
