All in all, Jay and Tom are both majorly different character fighting for the same girl. The only similarity they share were being very wealthy men. Jay showed a lot more love for Daisy and Tom was a spoiled rich person who wanted everything. Each of these character traits led to a tragic end, Jay’s death.
The characters both share qualities of the same agender but use them for different reasoning. For instance, Mr. Harrison and Atticus are very similar in a way that they are both driven to look beyond what is in front of them. They believe in ways that others don’t and are always looking to the future. We can see that Mary Jackson and Tom share a similarity when they both stand for trials in court. Katherine and Atticus also share a similarities as they stand up and defend people whether it be another person or themselves.
Tom and Emmett are quite alike. They were both african americans. They had both worked on a farm as slaves a long time ago. They both died a few days after what had happened. They were both caught doing something to a lady even.
Tomi and Keet are similar because In chapter 3 it says that Tomi and Keet use to be friends! They use to watch Papa’s pigeon soar in the air. Both Tomi and Keet both had thoughts about going to the naval academy. Tomi and Keet are also similar because they both have goals and they are doing everything they can to accomplish them. Such as Tomi wants to free his papa and grandpa from prison.
would you ever jump off a 50 foot precipice? Are Joe-Boy and vinny really best friends? Is Joe-Boy really a good friend to vinny? What teenaged boy wouldn’t want to go to the ravine?
Reuben Borne and Tom Walker are similar story characters because they both share the same narcissistic views and beliefs. Increasing wealth and prosperity drove Reuben to pride, which eventually led to his downfall. Tom, assaulting the weaknesses of others and craving money, enslaved himself by his own choice. Both Reuben and Tom threw away every good moral and, in doing so, chose death and scorn. Unfortunately, these young men, blessed with tremendous wealth, used every ounce of it on themselves. They failed to believe that earthly things are not eternal and, in the end, found themselves left more humiliated than the ones they tread upon and crushed. Thus, these men, proud and once laughing in death’s face, heard the cunning whisper of the
Tom Buchanan and Jordan Baker exhibit similar character traits. Tom is a very powerful character, with a lack of moral qualms. He is arrogant, and extremely hypocritical which becomes apparent when he learns of Daisy’s extramarital affair with Gatsby. He instantly disapproves of Daisy’s wrongdoings,
re Tom Walker andhis wife similar or are they different. There are in some ways that they are different. Other times they can be exactly the same. Tom’s youth brims with privilege and worth, as he boasts an education from one of the most prestigious universities and is a respected figure in the world of college football. In fact, “among various physical accomplishments, [Tom] had been one of the most powerful ends that ever played football at New Haven—a national figure in a way, one of those men who reach such an acute limited excellence at twenty-one that everything afterward savors of anticlimax” (6). However, his halcyon days of New Haven now in the past, Tom is depicted as agitated and uninterested. His life now reeks of “anticlimax” when compared to the glory of his Yale football career, and the threat of violence constantly awaits provocation within him. Moreover, Tom’s
It is commonly believed that all those who are wealthy adhere to a similar set of values, characteristics and have similar lifestyles. Fitzgerald provides the reader a clear view through the eyes of Nick Caraway of the differences and similarities that can be found between wealthy people in the roaring Twenties. Two characters that are very important to the story are Jay Gatsby and Tom Buchanan. Fitzgerald created two purposefully different characters- one that is easily despised, the other that although not perfect, is likeable- and united them in their love for money, the power that comes with it , and their haunt for the ultimate prize – Daisy. In this essay, we will compare Tom and
Holden Caulfield and Jay Gatsby are both phonies , Holden caulfield from The Catcher in the Rye by J. D. Salinger complains about everyone and everything and he hides his real emotions so no one can see who he really is and get close to him. Jay Gatsby from The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald lies about his past to be with daisey , leaving everyone in his past behind. Holden Caulfield is phonier than Jay Gatsby because he lies to people to make him seem more interesting or make someone feel sorry for him , he also lies to cover help how he really feels , and he lies because he's just bored and does it for fun.

Jay Gatsby spends years of his life involved in illegal activity in order to accumulate enough wealth to be able to throw many parties, all for a possible chance to see his love once lost, Daisy. In this, both Jay Gatsby and Prince Hamlet are willing to sacrifice all that they have, not limited to themselves, in order to achieve their unrealistic goals. In comparison, Hamlet is content with altering his life and his current relationships, all for the sake of being closer to his ultimate goal, vengeance for his father.
The roaring 20’s was an extrodinary time, and F. Scott Fitzgerald captured the feeling in his book The Great Gatsby. Throughout the book many of the characters showed the importance of the 20’s through their differences and similarities. Two main male characters, Tom and Gatsby, were both different and similar in many ways. Tom and Gatsby were both liars, but they also loved Daisy, and they were different on how they lived.
As Jay Gatsby enters his life, it slowly begins to crumble, as his wife enters an affair with another man (Gatsby), his Mistress is moving away, and he is being told by this man whom he just met that his wife never loved him. Although, just because a character is protective does not mean that they are a good person. Tom’s actions directly lead to the murder of Jay Gatsby, and he is cheating on his wife. Tom is the most protective of what he has and is quite conservative when it comes to any changes in his life, since he see’s his life before his run-ins with Gatsby to be
Finally, Jay Gatsby’s delusions draws more pity for him. Daisy comes from a rich family and chances of her ending up with Gatsby, a poor soldier, is totally unrealistic. Furthermore Gatsby wants Daisy to “ go to Tom and say: ‘I never loved you’” (105) but Daisy asserts that “ [she] can’t say [she] never loved Tom…It wouldn’t be true.”(126) Jay cannot grasp the present reality that Daisy could not leave Tom permanently, especially when the fruit of their love is already three years of age.
