John Proctor is one of the most interesting characters in literature because he is incredibly loyal (except when he’s cheating on his wife), brave and handsome not unlike another person we know from history in real life who is also played by Daniel Day Lewis, Abraham Lincoln. It's almost as if John Proctor himself was Abraham Lincoln, now i'm not suggesting that he is in the real world of course no that would be preposterous but rather that within the larger interconnected entertainment universe he is indeed the abraham in the movie lincoln. Now how did you come to that conclusion you might be asking yourself, well first we have to look at the similarities between the characters first we'll examine John Proctor. He is like i said before one of the most loyal characters going so far as to put himself in the light of the public for being an adulterer and statutory rapist to save those who are innocent of the crimes they are being accused of and to bring the real criminals (which happens to be a bunch of teenage girls) to justice. He is also willing to go to great lengths to achieve his goals not only does he try to save his wife through legal means but also by punching some guy in the face and having mary warren basically turn herself in for being apart of a cult that requires you to dance naked in the woods upon initiation. …show more content…
He also (and this is the most important part) has an incredibly misfortunate death he spends countless hours trying to clear the names of the innocent people only to be called a witch by the very person he was counting on to help him and then when he later tries to free himself by confessing to a crime that he didn’t commit is hanged because he is too concerned with the environment and won’t sign his name on a piece of
John Proctor is the a very important character in The Crucible. He is a good man, except for his one flaw of having an affair with Abigail. This affair leads to the witch trials because it starts with Abigail wanting to kill John Proctor’s wife so she could be with him. He changes from the beginning of the book to the end. In The Crucible, Arthur Miller shows the importance of reputation through John Proctor changing his mindset and actions from the beginning to the end of the book.
John Proctor is a man that everyone in Salem knows. Everyone in Salem has respect for John Proctor because he is a man who has a mind like no others because he is constantly thinks outside the box. John Proctor is always thinking outside the box by taking it to the extreme, and never gives a simple answer. His thoughts provoke the towns people by showing his imagination. John Proctor is a caring man who has great respect for everyone in the town because he doesn’t want to see innocent people sent on a death trial for something that they did not do at all. John Proctor is very unexpressed. The reason why he is unexpressed is because he shows mentally he shows no guilt, but physically he shows guilt toward the towns people. Finally, with false confessions, this leads him to his final breath of life because with Abigail lying this allows the court to go on her
John Proctor is a symbolic Christ figure in the Crucible. Despite his lustful sin for Abigail, he still is a symbolic Christ figure. As we know it, Jesus was a righteous man. He did everything for the benefit of the people and he came to save the world. Humans have proven to be so ignorant. John Proctor cared for Salem and he wanted to bring justice and truth in Salem. As a well know Christ figure, Proctor epitomizes a being that shows a multitude of characteristics of Proctor. The confrontation of evil in the society, the hanging of Proctor, and resistance to temptation.
Throughout this movie and book, John Proctor and Reverend Hale have both made a big impact of the overall plot of this story. I believe that overall John proctor has been the tragic hero of this play despite his flaws. One of John proctor's strengths would probably be that he is a pretty good leader and he stands for what he believes in. He is very unselfish and wants the best for everyone. We know this because in the end of the act three, when everyone had ran into the water and mary accused him of being a devil's man, he willingly confessed to it so that none of the other girls, or his wife would be charged. That scene right there really shows that he is very unselfish and cares very much for his wife and the kids of Salem.
With this in mind John Proctor is the character that the audience can relate to because he is relatable to the normal human being that makes mistakes and shows admirable qualities at the end and because he is relatable to the normal human being that makes mistakes and shows admirable qualities at the end. speaker states, "Because it is my name! Because I cannot have another in my life! Because I lie and sign myself to lies! Because I am not worth the dust on the feet of them that hang! How many I live without my name? I have given you my soul; leave my name!” (Miller 4143). . Proctor presents that he cannot sign his confession that he is innocent you know he is because he feels bad about himself lying to the judges and to his wife. Proctor is taking a stance of of bravery and he is trying to save Elizabeth from going to jail, because she is pregnant. He thinks owns her that much to give up her reputation. Reputation is a big deal in Salem because the community is based off a class system and high authority and him giving up his symbol of power his symbol of passage shows bravery and also shows the compassion and love for his wife that will anything for her. In contrast of John Proctor heroic choice. He is not the epic hero you think he is or he thought he was. "I speak my own since I cannot judge another. I have no time for it "(Miller 4141). Miller conveys that the character John cannot judge himself because he doesn't even like himself and he's not confident himself. John does not have enough self-confidence because he cannot forgive me on him committing adultery. He feels like a freud and a liar. He cannot sign the confession or even admit to Elizabeth the truth. He cannot admit to his own innocence because he feels like an awful person. reputation is based off of pride, But John does not have that that's why , But John does not have that that's why . did not
John Proctor is a man of many things. He is honest, strong willed and overall a fairly decent human being, except for the fact that he commits adultery with Abigail Williams. He believes the affair is unpardonable in the eyes of God, his wife and himself which leads to the seemingly deranged decisions he makes in Act IV.
John Proctor is generally respected by the townspeople and, while he is not of high rank, he is respected for his moral righteousness and goodness. In The Crucible, Proctor and his wife Elizabeth Proctor are both considered to be good people, and furthermore, Proctor’s wife Elizabeth even has a reputation for never telling a lie. According to The Crucible, “Proctor, respected and even feared in Salem, has come to regard himself as a kind of fraud. But no hint of this has yet appeared on the surface, and as he enters from the crowded parlor below it is a man in his prime we see, with a quiet confidence and an unexpressed, hidden force ” (Miller, 21). Before the word of his affair reaches the ears of the
John Proctor was a rational man who was given a bad series of problems that he could not solve. He is asked upon by almost everyone in town to help them but he could not handle the pressure and help all of the people. He just wanted to be forgiven for the mistake he made with Abigail and wanted to live happily with his family on his farm. He changes from being very calm about the accusations but throughout the play he became more frantic and stressed until the ultimate point where he was condemned by the court for affiliation with the devil. He tried the best he could to live happily with his family but ultimately failed.
John Proctor would be classified as a dynamic character, because of how he matured during the play. When the play begins, we are told of an affair that took place between John Proctor and Abigail Williams, which eventually will lead to his demise. Proctor’s fatal flaw is his tenuous resistance to Abigail and his lust for her. After the girls had been sporting in the woods, Abby came to John to tell him that she still wanted to be with him and that she is in love with him, but she also elucidates that the girls had not seen anyone with the Devil, nor was any witchcraft involved. When the girls began to accuse others of witchcraft, Proctor could have easily substantiated that the accusations were false, but he knew that the affair would come out and he wanted to keep his good name. Later in the story, John comes home and Elizabeth begins to question his loyalty and he tries to convince her that all he does is try to make her happy, but she will
John proctor is a very important character in the play The Crucible. You can further understand his personality by looking at him through the gender feminist lens and the social power which are both very evident in every character. John Proctor was a man in his early sixties. He was married to his wife, elizabeth proctor, where they exercised a very bland marriage. John and Elizabeth took in Abigail williams, the niece to the Reverend of the village, as a house keep.
John Proctor is portrayed throughout the play to be a man who has high moral values that he must abide by. He
During the course of summer I read two books, Alas Babylon and The Color of Water. My initial response to hearing about these books isn’t one that would please the author or anyone who enjoyed reading them. But once I began to read and actually imagine my life as the main protagonist in the books my opinion about them began to change by the time I finished the first page.
“Successful people have a social responsibility to make the world a better place and not just take from it.” Carrie Underwood shared this quote with the world as a reminder to those who have influence to not just sit back and look pretty and do something with it. Because of this, I see her as a hero, although she does not possess superpowers like we see on the screen or read in a book. In all, Carrie Underwood is an admirable hero because of her world-changing attitude, her advocacy for women's rights, and her utmost respect for those who are of the common folk, such as her fans. Since emerging into fame, Carrie Underwood has made it her mission to change the world, starting with her hometown of Oklahoma.
John Proctor is, arguably, the main character of the play. The Proctor that is presented to the readers at the beginning is not the same Proctor that is seen when the curtains drop for the last time. For example, Proctor states, "My honesty is broke, Elizabeth; I am no good man. Nothing spoiled by giving them this lie that were not rotten long before."(Miller 535). Proctor sees himself as evil, so what can one worse thing possibly do to him? This is the mindset that Proctor takes on for most the play, for so long that the reader begins to believe that he will never change. But something happens that does change Proctor; here he states, "You have made your magic now, for now I do see the goodness in John Proctor. Not enough to weave a banner with, but white enough to keep it from such dogs."(Miller 539). Proctor changed significantly, he recognizes the good in himself and becomes at peace. Proctor's whole mindset is switched around in only a few pages. Circumstances and traumatic
Mexico has gone through a very interesting history since the ancient years. It’s a culture that quickly involves you and makes you fall in love with it. The passion of Mexicans is reflected in every movement of a daily life. The current situation of the country is quite complicated due to bribery, corruption, unemployment, low wages, and lack of people’s interest on education; we can also find problems due poverty, and the difference between the social statuses. Mexicans are tired of the killings, kidnaps, insecurity and things that they have to face during daylight and night. In this research I cover most of the situations that may influence the country to take any decision. Private venture, especially in
