Lydia and Zlata Filipovic are different in many ways but they are also very similar. For example both Lydia and Zlata suffered through a traumatic experience. Zlata, at age 11, experienced the Bosnian War, where she hid in a cellar and wrote about all the tragedies that has happened. Lydia, was also taken to a concentration camp during the Holocaust, where she suffered deeply until age 15.They also differ by who was there with them, supporting, and helping them. Zlata had her family, they hid in a cellar for about a year, she had support from her family at all times because they were right there with he. On the other hand, Lydia was alone, she and her family got separated as soon as they arrived. In conclusion, Zlata and Lydia are similar in
Take Liesel Meminger and Anne Frank. They have a number of similarities. Both girls living in the same time period, their around the same age. But many differences also separate them. One is a Jew, while
One example is that Anne was a German born Jew and Jeanne Wakatsuki was and American born Japanese American. This means that Jeanne and Anne were involved in different parts of the war they were affected by different parts of the war. Further, they were captured and imprisoned for different reason. Anne was imprisoned because Adolf Hitler (leader of Nazi Germany) did not like the Jews so he imprisoned them, killed them, and forced them to do harsh labor. “Jeanne was sent to internment camp because the FBI was concerned about Japanese spies in America” (Houston and Wakatsuki Houston, 11). All in all, Jeanne and Anne may have some similarities, but they also have some
Lina is similar to Jonas and Andrius in several ways. Lina, Jonas, and Andrius must all take risks to survive. Lina is similar to Andrius because they are both strong-willed and courageous. Lina is similar to Jonas because they both must care for their slowly-weakening mother. However, Lina is also different from Jonas and Andrius in many ways. Lina is very artistic, whereas the other two are not. Also, Lina is a girl, and due to that, she works with the women and experiences different things than Jonas or Andrius. These are some of the ways Lina is similar and different from Jonas and Andrius.
Even though both writers have different styles of writing they have many similarities in the tone and theme. Both writers have a central theme that is trying to offer an insight into the human psyche. Hulga was disconnected from society and felt that she was
To begin with, Their are many similarities between Mariam and Laila in 'Thousand Splendid Sun”. The key comparison between both of the characters are they are both young women. In the fourth quote which clearly states, “It's our lot in life, Mariam. Women like us. We endure. It's all we have. Do you understand ? Besides, they will laugh at you in school”. This clearly shows the reader that Mariam's mother was taking to Mariam about women like them and what they had to go through. Just like Laila even thought she didn't go through the same experiences. This is show how both Mariam and Laila are young women and how both of them are similarities between them.
One similarity between the two characters are how internal struggles triggered both their spiritual realizations. Prior to Zosima entering the monastery, Zosima was very similar to Dmitri, which is exhibited when Zosima says, “we were all but proud of our drunkenness, debauchery, and bravado . . . behaved wickedly . . . I had come into my own money, and with that I threw myself in a life of pleasure, with all the impetuousness of youth, without restraints” (Dostoyevsky 296). Furthermore, like Dmitri, Zosima was willing to commit a crime in the name of love by dueling Zosima’s past lovers husband: “I learned with certainty that he had accepted my challenge . . . [however,] at the time, duels were strictly forbidden” (Dostoyevsky 297). Correspondingly, before the duel was to take place, Zosima suddenly undergoes a spiritual awakening through thoughts of his deceased brother, Merkel (discussed later): “what was I setting out to do? I was setting out to kill a kind, intelligent, noble man, who was not at fault before me in any way, thereby depriving his wife of happiness forever, tormenting and killing her” (Dostoyevsky 298). It is through this conflict that triggered Zosima into
Armine Kotin Mortimer in their essay makes this claim, “We see each in turn through the somewhat tainted view of the other” (Mortimer 189). I agree with this. The two women definitely don’t see each other as similar in any way. Mortimer says that the women both see each other as if they themselves as better (Mortimer 189). They are different from each other, but both think lowly other the other.
The primal nature and nightmares. The gothic elements and architecture and darkness. There is a part in the book which is missing in the film, when Theodora and Eleanor are outside during the night and suddenly they start fleeing from a children’s picnic. Eleanor does not know why thery are fleeing but Eleanor follows Theo in a fearful and horror
One thing they have in common is they are all where home schooled. They all believed in the star of David religion. They are all Jewish kids or teens living in the secret annex with other families. They all died differently. However, I think this is where the similarity between the three teenagers ends.
It’s shocking how two people from different societies can be both similar and different at the same time. In Aldous Huxley’s Brave New World, Linda and Lenina are two such characters. Each of them have their own characteristics which make them unique, but they also have separate characteristics. The three ways in which Lenina and Linda can be compared would be physically, intelligently, and emotionally.
Anna was a married woman about 20 that traveled to Yalta alone. There she met Dmitri, another married man that traveled alone. So, both Anna and Dmitri fell in love and began having affairs. However, Emily was not married but started seeing Homer. Emily was in love with Homer and wanted to marry him but, he didn’t love her because “he liked men” (466). Therefore, these women are very alike because of the affairs they had with men.
Now even though Anne Frank and Gerda Klein were different people and they had different personalities, their lives had things in common. For example, They were both taking to a concentration camp and they were both planning what they were going to do once they were saved. They both had high hopes for their future, like Anne wanted to be a great writer who would be remembered even after she died. Both of their friends either died or were killed at the concentration camp. They were both surviving on little or no food for years. Gerda was a human skeleton when she was found by the american soldiers. These were just a few of the major similarities that I found.
One of the most prominent similarities between the two is the alienation they felt from their mothers. Despite the love they
Medea and Antigone are very determined people who will get what they want no matter what. In the play, Antigone defies the king and buries her brother at night. She says “You may do what you like since apparently the law of gods mean nothing to you” to Ismene which clearly states that she is doing it for spiritual reasons. For if she does not, Polyneices will not be accepted into heaven. Medea allows her sons to be killed and purposely kills Creon’s daughter to spite her husband. She is driven by her desire for revenge and her heart has been poisoned by the betrayal from Jason. Love and infatuation also plays a big role in both stories. Antigone’s love for her brother caused her to bury him whereas Medea killed people because of her infatuation
The two women also have different melodic motifs: Clara has songs written in a major key in contrast to Fosca whose songs contain “melancholy minor key” (Secrest, 1384). But the optimum difference between the two women lies on how the society viewed them to be: Clara represents the perfect woman whose love is to be celebrated, while Fosca is the conundrum (Secrest,
