Have you ever been curious? Have you ever wondered what your future will be like whether it will change or how the future will turn out. In both stories Montag and John both were curious and wanted more knowledge about their societies.The similarities between Montag and John are striking and they inquire rigorous observations. The 3 connections I made between Fahrenheit 451 and “By the Waters of Babylon” are that Montag and John both showed Bravery, Had new beginnings, and they were both determined and wise. The first connection made was Bravery in both of the short stories. Montag and John were both the bravest people in their society. He finally had the courage and decided it was time to go to the place of the dead. Montag was very unhappy therefore he had to convert his life around. The first thing that made Montag change his life and have a new beginning is when he had to go to the old lady's house and burn her books but, she didn’t want to leave her house. She states something that was striking before she burned “We shall this day light such a candle, by God’s grace, in England, as I trust shall never be put out”( ). After this Montag hide a book that he stole that from her and it made him think to himself. Finally, he knew he didn’t wanna burn books anymore and became a lot more interested in books. The last connection I made between Montag and John were they both were Wise and determined. Montag and John were both very determined to change their societies for the better. To start off John was determined to finish his journey and re-built the land he discovered “But they were men who built the city, not gods or demons. They were men. I remember the dead man’s face. They were men who were here before us. We must build again”,( ). John knew he had to be optimistic and open minded if he wanted to succeed in his journey which he did.
