Similarities Between Romeo And Juliet And The Hunger Games

Shakespeare wrote many plays, including the renowned play Romeo and Juliet, which includes a Montague boy named Romeo who is a “hopeless” romantic. There is also another book called The Hunger Games written by Suzanne Collins, including a “hopeless” romantic who is the baker’s son called Peeta. A Hopeless Romantic is a character who believes in love above all things else, and is often viewed as dramatic or silly. Although both of these stories may be different genres with different stories and people, each has an essential archetype that drives the plot and its outcome. Romeo, a Montague, is the “hopeless” romantic in Romeo and Juliet. Romeo believes in Juliet’s and his’ relationship despite their houses’ feuds with each other. The text states, “Alack, there lies more peril in thine eye Than twenty more of their swords. Look thou but sweet And I am proof against their enmity.” (II. ii. 70-73) This quote shows that Romeo is so committed to Juliet that he would risk his life for her. Next, the text also states, “With love’s light wings did I o’erperch these walls, For stony limits cannot hold love out,” (II. ii. 65-66) This quote shows that Romeo believes their love cannot be broken, for nothing cannot keep their love apart. …show more content…

Peeta Mellark is viewed as the ‘hopeless romantic in the Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins because he is viewed as a sweet and kind person who has been in love with Katniss ever since they were children. The text states, “Peeta sighs. “Well, there is this one girl. I’ve had a crush on her ever since I can remember,” (Collins 157). The text also states, “”I remember everything about you,” (367). These quotes both show Peeta falling for Katniss ever since he saw her, and cannot stop thinking about her. Peeta also shows he is willing to do anything to help Katniss get home to her family.
