Around the world, there are different kinds of buildings and constructions that represent a country or city. Evidently, buildings are different from one to another in location, aging time, and materials of construction. Nevertheless, many buildings share some similarities. Many people know that The Empire State Building and The Eiffel Tower are in different continents and that at first glance they have nothing in common. Otherwise, they share some similarities like being the tallest buildings in the city that each is located, the number of observatories, and One of their similarities is the height. Both Empire State Building and The Eiffel Tower are the tallest infrastructure in their cities. The Empire State Building with 1,250 feet in the top floor and 1,454 feet to the tip is the tallest building in the city of New York, this building that nowadays is a point of attraction for tourist in the big apple opened in May 1931. Likewise, The Eiffel Tower located in Europe with 906 feet in the top floor and 1,063 feet to the tip is the tallest construction in the city of Paris. It has been open for tourist since 1889 and it was the tallest building in the world from 1889 to 1930. Another similarity between The Empire State Building and The Eiffel Tower is that both possess observatories in the top floor. The Empire State Building has two observatories; one on the 86th floor that in the last few years have been closed to the public and one on the 102nd floor; if
Some more things that are the same are the buildings. The building stuff is how they used pillar and now the US uses them on government buildings a lot and if you have the money you can buy them and use them as decoration. We also use there arches on bridges. We use aqueducts but we use a pipe line instead of stone. We use domes on stadiums and they made concrete which we still use.
The Empire State Building is a skyscraper located in Midtown Manhattan, New York City. Its construction began on March 17, 1930, and was completed on April 11, 1931. John Jacob Raskob, the creator of General Motors, wanted a building that would have been taller than Walter Chrysler’s building. He went to William Lamb, someone who was a partner at the architectural firm of Shreve, Lamb, and Harmon and he explains to him his dream of a skyscraper that would exceed the Chrysler Building. When the Empire State Building was being made, there were only two criteria that were needed to be followed during the construction: the first one was that it must resemble a pencil. The second criteria were that it must soar higher than any other structure in the world. Although the building had many setbacks during the construction of it the building ended up finishing 45 days ahead of schedule and on top of that the building ended up being $5 million dollars under budget.
With so many elevator shafts, there would be barely any room left over for rentable space. The designers of the towers came up with a plan to fix this. They treated each section of floors like its own building with its own separate elevator banks. To get to higher floors, people had to transfer to the next set of elevators on what was called a Sky Lobby, which were on the 44th and 78th floors. This allowed for quicker travel between floors and a more optimized use of
As many people know, the architects of many buildings have used a multitude of techniques and methods from ancient architecture to build newer buildings. For example, the Capitol Building uses Greek and Roman architecture in its columns, while the Washington Monument is in the style of an Egyptian Obelisk. One of the monuments, the Lincoln Memorial, is based off the styles and methods of the Architecture of the Parthenon. Because of this, there are many similarities, but also differences, between the Parthenon and the Lincoln Memorial.
Similarities and differences are what make things so interesting. Would you be happy if everyone was the same. Every looked the same, and liked the same things and hated the same things. No you wouldn’t because you would want to be you and no one can tell you what you want to be or what you don’t want to be. Even the buildings you make would be the same from a normal house to a normal office building. The “Panama Canal” was one of the most useful canals ever built and they were made to for one reason and that was to transport goods. This was somethings everyone needed to solve at that time(1900s). The great Moai statues of Easter Island are also great structures and are really tremendous to the eye. These buildings and canals were made to one purpose they had to do somethings and that something was to make things easier for the people. Some similarities they had were that they both took a long time and sacrifice to build. A difference they had was that they were built for different purposes and they had their own different struggles.
A large pile of ancient stone is no different than a giant stack of old stone, right? To look closely into an argument, sometimes a zoomed-out perspective is needed. In this case, its important to look at every detail to find out if the construction of pyramids and cathedrals were similar or different. On one hand, there are the ancient Egyptian pyramids, construced under the authority of the pharoahs through the use of many laboring workers. On the other, there are gothic cathedrals, built over a long period of time, employing several construction methods. Through the analysis of historical accounts and evidence, it is apparent that the similarities between the Great Pyramids and gothic cathedrals greatly endorse the use of techonological systems as fuel for societies that are constantly improving.
It is important to look at the ancient buildings especially the Pantheon and Hagia Sophia microscopically, these will help us to find out about their similarities and differences as two ancient buildings transformed the architectural industry in Ancient Rome and Turkey. To start with, it is important to arrive at what the Pantheon and Hagia Sophia are;
The similarities in the architectural features are that they both have a spherical dome. They both have steps leading up to the portico. Both buildings also have a pediment held up by the columns. Both the structures are symmetrical and have 8 columns at the front. They have many similarities as the Pantheon influenced Thomas Jefferson to make a similar structure, and because of the common dome both the structures symbolized unity, and power.
Our nation's revolution was a great achievement in U.S History. With the dawn of a new nation, there would have to be a central location to make the new decisions of our country. Our capitol has stood as the heart of our country since the late 1700s. The United States capitol is among the most architecturally impressive and symbolically important buildings in the world. For almost two centuries it has housed the meeting chambers of the senate and the House of Representatives. Begun in 1793, the capitol building has been built, burnt, rebuilt, extended, and restored. Today our capitol stands as a monument to the American people and their government. (AOC.gov)
The Capitol Building is one of the most iconic building in the United States of America.
I decided to compare the Pantheon and Hagia Sophia. The Pantheon is in Rome, Italy and the Hagia Sophia is located in Istanbul, Turkey previously Constantinople. I chose these structures because the construction of domes fascinates me. How the domes were constructed is explained in the text, yet the concept still baffles me how people were actually able to build domes with the technology present then and that the domes did not collapse on themselves.
(Cline 2016) Architects around the world has been studying it and attempt to infuse the strong elements or principles of design into their own works eventually common elements from the Pantheon can be found in various places, like chapel, libraries or even museum. The Rotunda (University of Virginia) build by Thomas Jefferson. The Rotunda was deeply influenced by the Pantheon in Rome and it is to symbolize "authority of nature and power of reason". The ideas of building Rotunda uses the same idea of building Pantheon. It is clearly seen that the materials use is very different. Pantheon is constructed by reinforced concrete while Rotunda gives a neat and clean finish of the overall building by using wood and brick. Moving to the interior, it uses a different approach while it is designed. Pantheon is an enclosed big place where the only light source enter is from the eye while Rotunda is built as an mulit-story architecture that the light source comes from the windows was in-built around the dome. Other examples are like San Antonio, Trieste, build by Pietro Nobile; Church of the Great Mother of God, Turin, build by Ferdinando Bonsignore; Church of San Francesco di Paolo, Naples, build by Pietro Bianchi. The similarities among these architecture is all was deeply influenced by Pantheon and have a similar architecture building,
Rome with there favorite architecture shape, the arch, are both still very much used in the
Have you ever wondered how ancient civilization built massive structures? Many ancient civilizations built things that served a multitude of purposes. Most of the purposes of these structures are already known but, there still may be unknown uses for the thing these ancient civilizations built. There also many different ancient civilizations like the Greeks, Romans, Chinese, Egyptian, Mayans, and Aztecs. Many of the things built in ancient times influenced the things that we build today. For example, the coliseum influenced the basic designs of modern football stadiums. Also the designs made by these ancient civilizations helped to change the way other civilizations made there monuments. For example, when the romans started to different types of columns and arches the style was adopted, modified, and used in the designs of cathedrals in Europe .There are many parts of these ancient buildings still undiscovered. For example there could still be sealed rooms in the pyramids of Giza. Usually when people start to research architecture made by ancient civilizations, they have to answer how were they built, and what were they built for.
There are many similarities (and differences) between Ancient Egyptian Pyramids, Mesopotamian ziggurats, and the pyramids of Pre-Columbian South America. All of them had major significance for their peoples cultures and religious beliefs, as well as having historic significance today. The greatest parallel between all of these ancient skyscrapers is that they were made for the upper echelons of these now defunct civilizations.
