The Middle Ages took place during 500-1300 CE and the Renaissance happened around the 14th century to the 17th century. Because of their occurrence in the same country, Catholicism does a lot for the state. Even though that is true, the Middle Ages did a lot more with religion while the Renaissance started to have more scientists who would use rational thought. The Middle Ages and the Renaissance in Europe had many economic and social differences as well as similarities. Being a patriarchal society is a main similarity between the Middle Ages and the Renaissance. Women had fewer choices in both eras and marriage was their only option to being provided for after their parents died. Another similarity is that kings had the authority in the Middle Ages, they owned manors and had control over everyone on their manor including serfs. In the Middle Ages there were many farmers and they worked on manors as serfs using techniques like the three field system. Although there were still farmers in the Renaissance there was way more trade, this is partially because the Renaissance had more technology and ideas to spread. In the Middle Ages religion was a huge part of anyone’s life, when someone is working under harsh conditions they will turn to God for answers, and this was one of the only ways to get an education. During the Renaissance there were many scientists like Francis Bacon who came up with the scientific method, many people could get an education other ways and science was easier to share with other people using inventions like the printing press. Because the Renaissance was more focused on science they also had more technology including a telescope built by Galileo, whereas the Middle Ages had very little technology, any technology they had was toward farming like the moldboard that allowed for batter
