I felt that Simulation lab was a great advantage for us as nursing students. We were able to have a client that was actually able to respond to our actions and questions as if in a real scenario, and yet, we were still in a safe environment where we could make mistakes and learn from them. I feel it was extremely beneficial to able to provide professional criticism because it allowed the observers to critically think about what should be done next in regards to the patients care and also have the participants to learn what they could improve in regards to their patient care. The simulation lab was able to give us insight into a realistic situation and therefore we were able to see how we would react and think in that type of situation. I
We were four in our group and we were given a scenario of a patient who was having an anaphylactic reaction from bee sting venom. The group agreed that I will be the primary nurse. As the primary nurse, I knew that I had to lead and supervised our group in responding to the emergency situation at hand. Having played the role of a primary nurse in this simulation, I have gained meaningful experience, which I can use in my future nursing practice.
An educational journey consists of effective study habits which will require researching various sources, managing personal/family life, and balancing work and school. Research is very important. It will either hurt you or help you, depending on your research skills and time management skills. Research helps link one’s ideas to true and tested studies that can help prove a stance on a particular subject matter. When one is able to provide information backed up by empirical studies, one’s information can begin to flourish. For example, think about the various magazines that are sold nationwide. The National Enquirer is seen to be a false, untrue magazine that provides information about subject matters that are not even true. Even though, the National Enquirer is a great attention getter, there are surmountable people who know the stories printed inside are not believable. In regards to research, students should seek out reputable sources that can enhance their writing skills which in turn will help to write a better paper. Research provides valuable knowledge for the student. The student may already know the information but the research will give added seasoning to that knowledge. Just like cooking, one knows how to cook a turkey but, it’s the seasonings that will bring the turkey to life. Those seasoning ideas may come from various individuals.
Before joining my Masters in Business administration, I have done few researches at my working places, not knowing that there are some many methods, approaches, etc. Thanks to Dr. Stephen Sommerville, for teaching me to do research in the professional way. Let my first research be the critical review of my own positionality i.e. who am I to me and in the others point of view? Does my positionality affect the research works I took or will take?
The use of simulation allows students to experience hypothetical clinical scenarios without threat of harm to patients. One of the objectives of running the simulation is to allow to experience and learn from various scenarios that they will likely encounter on the nursing floor and provide an opportunity to apply theory into practice. Prior to this simulation, we were introduced to several literature covering concepts on nursing responsibilities when floating, impaired nursing, diversion of medication, reasonable suspicion, and the AACN standards for establishing and sustaining healthy work environments. Such concepts help the nurse to practice her profession safely and transform into a leader that can initiate and influence change towards the success of an organization.

Sometimes failure can really be the best teacher. This was the case with the Lakeview Regional Hospital Simulation Exercise. During the simulation, I learned a lot about working with a team, knowing when to stand firm and when to compromise. I have been a part of plenty of projects, but sometimes I can be a little lost when it comes to the healthcare aspects of things. It was during these times that I looked to my teammates to assist with filling in some valuable blanks about the healthcare environment. I do have a lot of experience with introducing technology, training and media relations. It was during these parts of the simulation that I could really lend a helping hand. The simulation illustrated the importance of buy-in amongst the implementation team as well as other members of the entire organizations. It showed that there will always be some inherent resistance, but that doesn’t mean that change is impossible as long as there is some flexibility.
In addition to the academic setting, I will also have to work with others in the real-world, especially with my aspired occupation in the medical field. Learning to work well in teams will be a significant contributor to my personal academic success at Drexel. At Drexel, I will have to work with my peers in various contexts. Working with other students will teach me to be a team player and learn to deal with other people in unfortunate circumstances. For example, dealing with a peer who does not contribute to their share in a group assignment or fails to communicate. In the academic setting, working with others in study groups can help reinforce and learn content to master the material. Teaching others and reviewing with others can be very
In my opinion, the information placed forward by my colleague Kerlcia Stewart was quite valid to the topic simulation tools in nurses training. Kerlcia’s discussion the concept of simulation tools in nurses training which I totally agree on. Kerlcia mentioned that simulation tools give the nurses hands on experience within the clinical setting which enables the nurse to apply clinical and critical care knowledge to conditions and situation. Moreover, I believe when nurses engage themselves in using stimulation tools it can aid them it think critical, increase their knowledge and analysis situation where they are face on a regular basis. Engaging stimulation tools in nurses training will improve the quality care in which patients will receive
Integrated work how ever has limitations. Whitaker, P (2002) identifies that the process can be complex and stressful for the family and even the agencies. For the family, the level of meetings and attend medical appointments can both be can be time consuming and tedious. It may be difficult for Emily to get a job and if she does, she may not be able to commit to it. She may also feel judged and her privacy is invaded. The level of information may also overwhelm her and may become confusing. Whitaker (2002) suggests that the agencies must put their individual agendas aside and perhaps have joint meetings without the family at first so that they present agreed options for the family. Pugh (1996:135) affirms that “a shared philosophy, vision
The customer simulation exercise of Minnesota Micromotors Inc, was a very intriguing one. It exposed me to a variety of moving pieces that enable a successful business performance across different objectives and parameters.
