Since my uppper primary years, my ambition is to be a pharmacist. Initially, I wanted to be a pharmacist mainly to help people. Today, after going through different experiences, praticising pharmacy is more than just a way to help people; it is what I envisioned myself to be doing few years down the road for the rest of my life. I still remember my first encounter with a pharmacist. She is so patient and thoughtful, answering my questions in lay man terms and providing me details so I can understand better and never once ignore my questions just because I am a young teenager. I can clearly see her passion for her work. She was one of my inspirations to become a pharmacist. Throughout my time in Singapore, I have participated in several …show more content…
Thus, I hope in the future I can do more for those living in poverty aside from doing community work. From such experiences, I am assured that I want to be in the health care system to make an effort for others. During my internship at the Pharmacy department at Jerudong Park Medical Centre, I came to really understand the roles and responsibilities of a pharmacist. For the first two days, the pharmacist showed me how their computing system works. When the patient arrives, they log into his account and check his medical history. While prescribing, the pharmacist has to check for interacting drugs and at the same time make sure the right drug is delivered in the correct dose and in the appropriate form. After that, while dispensing the drugs to the patient, the pharmacist has to make sure that the patient understand the proper use and the potential side effects of the drug. The day after, I have visited the Maternity Ward. In there, the pharmacist has to check whether the drugs that the patients are currently taking are still suitable for their condition and the pharmacist has to decide whether to change, reduce or stop the medication. Even supplements has to be considered. One of the supplements taken by the patient there contains Ginseng. I was told that Ginseng in high dosage is not appropriate for people with high blood pressure as it promotes blood flow. I have also visted the Intensive care unit to deliver the drugs. I have learned that the pharmacist
What do you want to do with your life? It is a question that almost everyone asks high school and college students, but for many, it is a dreaded question that is difficult to answer. For me, that wasn’t the case, as ever since my sophomore year of high school, my answer has been to become a pharmacist. My passion for pharmacy stemmed out of the opportunity to shadow a pharmacist who showed me a wide variety of career possibilities within pharmacy. I was intrigued by all the options that began on the foundation of learning science, understanding medications, and caring for patients.
My primary goal of getting a practical experience in pharmacy was to develop the knowledge and skills to actively participate in patient care, improve self-confidence, approach any task with an open mind, and having eagerness to learn what the rotation has to offer. I participated and attempted all the tasks that were assigned by my preceptor throughout my rotation. A very first activity I learned to perform was counting medications properly before pharmacists dispense them. While working on this task, I also learned to change the manufacturing number and do the partials for medications. Although it seemed like a very simple task, it requires attention, fast pace, and accuracy. Most of the errors in the pharmacy occur due to incorrect medication, dosage strength, or dosage form while filling so it is critical to pay attention to small details. Furthermore, my preceptors allowed me to perform vaccinations from the very first day which helped me develop one-on-one interactions with patients and improved my knowledge on administrating and recommending different vaccinations to patients. Since pharmacists hold a great source of information on vaccinations and they are easily accessible in neighborhood, pharmacists play a prominent role in prevention and safety of public health. When I heard news of my preceptor’s participation in flu clinic at the Village of Hanover park, I offered him my help for several hours. After administrating vaccines continuously
I am writing to express my interest in PGY-1 residency position at the Exempla Good Samaritan Medical Center. My career goal is to complete PGY-1 in pharmacy practice, and continue to develop my clinical skills by pursuing PGY-2 specialized training. I am interested in PGY-1 residency program at Exempla Good Samaritan Medical Center for its well-rounded rotation opportunities, research and teaching prospects. My long term career goal is to explore opportunity for clinical pharmacist with a faculty appointment at an academic medical center affiliated with a School/Department of pharmacy with prospect to conduct research.
My primary interest in a career in Pharmacy came from an overall interest in medicine and health care in general. As a third grader, I had the first severe asthma attack that I can remember that caused the first of several hospital stays. By happenstance, that time sparked my curiosity about medicine. As an eight year old, I wondered just how this magical mist that came through a mask was able to give me a freedom to breath that my body wasn 't couldn 't give me on its own. Throughout high school and the beginning of college, I tailored my education to focus on biology and medicine, as well as finding time to interact with patients as I pursued a career in medicine. However, it was not until I began working as a pharmacy technician for CVS Pharmacy that I came to understand that this was the career my passion was leading to me to. I had shadowed other health care professionals before based on my interest. These shadowing experiences included a pediatrician, family practice physician, and a physical therapist. Each of those experiences were useful to me because, while they were interesting, they all seemed to lack something that left me wanting more. As a hopeful pharmacist, I will have a career that I feel passionate about while being able to provide for my loved ones at the same time.
A career in pharmacy will enable me directly or indirectly serve the growing population of sick patients. I also believe that attending pharmacy school will provide me the practical skill and knowledge I need to develop the medications that will have lesser side effects on patients.
When looking at overviews of career paths that I could choose from, I knew that I would choose something in the science field. But, I am very social and wanted a job that dealt directly with the public. To bridge this gap, I began a search and came across the pharmaceutical career field and immediately fell in love. There is a vast amount of opportunities that come within the big umbrella of pharmacy, and Doctors of Pharmacy can branch out and try different things in the practice. It is also a continual learning practice that has new discovers almost every day. Being able to be a part of this and completing my own research that will help the public is a pleasure. There have also been breakthroughs that bring pharmacist closer to the individuals in
The road to choosing pharmacy was a winding path. I knew from a young age that I loved science and that the medical field would someday become my home. As I progressed through high school I explored other careers, like physician’s assistants and medical school but I never felt like I had found my niche. I started working for Publix and soon found myself working in the pharmacy as a technician to gain more knowledge about medicine. Before I knew It, I was hooked. I knew I had found my dream field of work. The combinations of Sciences, patients, and the flexibility of the changing world of pharmacy is enticing. I have a wide interest in the scope of pharmacy and find comfort in knowing I can have many different careers within the field. While competing at the Health Occupation Students of America (HOSA) student leadership conference I met a faculty member from a nearby University who inspired me with stories of various careers all within my reach. The following year I had the pleasure of presenting with her at the 2017 HOSA conference and was able to share my experiences as a Pre-Pharmacy student, as well as knowledge on the career path to high schoolers. This inspired me further and I found that I enjoy teaching and sharing my passion for pharmacy. As I come to my third year as a Pharmacy Technician my passion for pharmacy has only increased. Not a day goes by that I am not inspired by my pharmacist. My work in pharmacy has presented me with many skills from pharmaceutical
My true passion for pharmacy lies in helping others in a safe and effective way with the use of innovative pharmaceutical medicines. I have become inspired by my personal ambition of becoming a pharmacist as I inspire to contribute to others well-being.
I started working for both retail and clinical community pharmacy. My experiences in all three environments has led me to narrow down my options to look into becoming clinical pharmacist. I realized that becoming a clinical pharmacist will enable to me understand my patient better and optimize their needs. From my personal experiences, communications sometimes lack between health care professionals and patients. Therefore, becoming a clinical pharmacist would enable me to create a long-lasting bond with my patients and gain their trust. This begins with knowing my patient better and working with other health care professionals to improve patient’s
I have been exceptionally attentive in my science classes ever since I was a little girl. Science has always been extremely intriguing to me which is why being a pharmacist would be the perfect career path for me. Becoming a pharmacist would be extremely rewarding because I would be able to make people feel better every day of my life. I have always been interesting in helping people and doing pharmacy would be the exact way to achieve that. Making people feel better is an amazing feeling, and that is an perception I would like to appreciate every
I feel very confident that I can pursue my dream to become a pharmacist. The spirit of America to dream impossible dreams and pursue the personal happiness is amazing. I am so grateful that many pharmacy schools in America are ready to open their door to students like me, with passion, diligence, and desire for learning, but also to prepare a new generation of enthusiastic people to contribute to the well being of the human race and the worldwide
Trying to determine what I want to do over the course of my next six years at St. Louis College of Pharmacy can be difficult, but I have an idea of what I want to do. I have many goals that I would like to achieve during my time here, and I plan to continue to pursue those goals throughout the rest of my life. I plan to become a successful pharmacist, and become an important member of the healthcare team.
My interest in pharmacy began at an early age. Growing up, both of my parents had numerous health issues requiring medication. My mother was diagnosed with type I diabetes during her pregnancy. Relying on insulin numerous times per day, I grew up helping her dose and even administer insulin. Quickly I began to respect medication and appreciate its importance. She later developed other autoimmune processes including thyroid and celiac disease. I realized then, that patient education was another important role of pharmacists; taking the time to explain when she should take her medications as well as the ingredients within each medication. My father also had his share of health concerns including cardiac disease, and has required cardiac
As a freshman at St. Louis College of Pharmacy and a first year college student, thinking about my pathway for school and my career is something that I have been nudged into thinking deeply about. Throughout my high school career I always knew that I wanted to be a part of the health care system and decided to become a pharmacist. As a pharmacist, I will be able to personally help people with their medications and assist them by educating them on how to use their medications and recommend other medications that may be more effective. In order to become a successful pharmacist, I will need to set clear goals for myself to follow in both my education and career.
I delight in helping people and that is what pharmacists do as well as additional significant tasks. They are also very organized people, as am I. That is why I would treasure being a pharmacist and truly love the job. I have worked exceptionally hard in my classes to maintain my exceptional grades and GPA. I have completed additional activities such as going to pharmacy camp to learn what a pharmacist does. I have also done ample research to know if I will like the job and what I have to do to achieve this goal. Every bit of this contributes to me reaching my goal and I cannot wait until my journey
