Sinners in the Hands of an Angry God
Reading Sinners in the Hands of an Angry God was intense. Thinking about God being mad at us or wanting to punish us is a scary thought. The society we live in today often judges those living the Christian lifestyle. People are often put down for praising God in public or simply talking about what God has done for them. Living a good christian lifestyle is worth it; you may be judged but it is worth it, not only because he will punish you for your sins, but also just because he loves you and protects you (he deserves it).
It’s not always the ‘cool’ thing to do but it’s always worth it; doing what is right by God may cause you to be judged, but being judged by much of society is nothing in comparison to the wrath of God. Edwards’ Sinners In the Hands of an Angry God was written to persuade people away from their sinful lives. Edwards also goes on to talk about hell being endless; the idea of something like hell never ending is so hard for us to believe, because here on Earth, nothing is endless. Everything ends, both the good things and the bad. In the quote above Edwards says that hell is wide and bottomless; this is also hard for us to believe because it is used to symbolize the idea of something going on forever. Edwards does not just explain to us about God’s wrath but also his love for us and ability to protect
