Christopher Columbus made four voyages and is known for discovering America when he was seeking a westward route to India. Columbus was also a remarkable navigator and gutsy sailor, navigating by the stars to sail across the uncharted sea as no other was known to have done. Charles Lindbergh also has a well known reputation.

1519: a Spanish armada of five ships set sail that would soon be the first to circumnavigate the globe. Their captain, a Portuguese noble, was an accomplished student of cartography and astronomy. Europe’s cravings for spices sent Columbus to Asia, and into the barrier that was the Americas. Magellan’s expedition sought to find a way through, on a mission to bring a new trade route and immense wealth to Spain. Through the crew’s starvation, two mutinies against him, and his harsh personality and lack of accomplishment, Magellan proved his life was not worth saving.

The legacy of Christopher Columbus has been a divisive topic for many years. Indeed, according to Laurence Bergreen, the Columbian legacy has been divisive since the time of his voyages. In an excerpt from his book Columbus: The Four Voyages, Laurence Bergreen juxtaposes his extensive historical knowledge with a deep understanding of modern American culture to demonstrate that, for all his successes and failures, Columbus is significant as a reminder that we are all deeply complex and contradictory beings.

Christopher Columbus was a well-known traveler who originated from Italy. Christopher Columbus had a legacy that was troubled with disagreements for reason of his treatment towards the native population. His journeys encouraged mass amount of Europeans to obtain interest in taking over the Americas. Throughout his letter written to Sant’ Angel, Columbus explains his emotion in being very satisfied with the results he has revised throughout his first voyage. Christopher Columbus then goes into detail concerning his appreciation to the royal King and Queen, Ferdinand and Isabella as he mentions, “I passed over the Indies with the fleet which the most illustrious King and Queen, our lords, gave to me” (Columbus 8). Christopher Columbus creates a powerful image for the King and Queen because he trusts that the maintenance of Ferdinand and Isabella throughout his journey was an incredible aspect that resulted in his spectacular accomplishment.

Christopher Columbus, an experienced seafarer, left landmark achievements in various destinations he set foot in. He made four trips across the Atlantic Ocean from Spain and he mistakenly thought there was a quicker route to Asia. It turned out he landed on two unknown continents (Jane, pg.6). In the event of making journeys, he accidentally came across to natives where he taught the spirit of exploration injecting a great deal in America's global economy. The journey started at the beginning of different acts like colonization.

Christopher Columbus was an Italian explorer, navigator and colonizer. In 1492, after many negotiations, he convinced the Spanish court, the monarchs Ferdinand II of Aragon and Isabella I of Castile, to financially support his voyage to the Indies by sailing west from Spain. However, not knowing that there were two continents, the Americas, between Spain and the Indies, instead of sailing to the Indies, as he’d hoped, he eventually reached what is now known as the Caribbean islands. Columbus’s main goals during his travels were to trade for gold, pearls and spices, and to conquer new land. He did everything he could to get those resources, and while doing so, he committed many dirty deeds: “massacres and torture” (Sanders). Although many consider Christopher Columbus a hero for discovering the New World, many also consider him a villain for committing so many terrible and inhumane crimes.

In Plato’s Republic Book I, Socrates debate with Cepahlus, Polemarchus, and Thrasymachus on what justice is. Thrasymachus, the sophist, has the most complex account of justice. He states that justice is the advantage of the stronger, which Socrates vividly rejects. In this essay, I will look into Socrates’ refutation against Thrasymachus, and examine how successful his refutation is.

His father, Nicolo, and his uncle, Maffeo, were merchants who had seats in the great nobleman council of Venice (Polo IV). According to his records, he had traveled thousands of miles with his father and uncle.

With this funding, Columbus led the most well-known voyage in human history: the voyage to the New World in 1492. This voyage laid the foundation for future colonies and, eventually, many nations in the world. However, this voyage would not have gone past conceptualization if Columbus had not been supported by the Spanish monarchy. While a variety of factors affected the monarchy’s decision, the primary factors were Columbus’ experience in navigation, assistance Columbus received from Jewish supporters, and the capitulations laid out by Columbus himself.
