Sir Gawain and the Green Knight is about Sir Gawain’s journey to meet the Green Knight and the stop he makes at a castle of an unnamed host. The tale is largely about morality but it can also be read as the need for one to be loyal. The confrontation scene between the Green Knight and Gawain pushes the importance of loyalty and the consequences of not being loyal.
When Gawain goes to meet the Green Knight he takes with him a green girdle that the Queen gifted him. He took it and kept it instead of giving it to the King because he believed that it could save his life. Gawain is then punished because he was not loyal to the king.
