Legally, Canada’s head of state is the Queen, and the Governor General is the Queen’s representative for the Federal government. However, it is the Prime Minister that governs Canada. The Prime Minister is known as the nation’s head of government, his role is known to be one of the most powerful leadership positions in any Western Democracy, meaning a great deal of Canadian political life centers around his/her deeds and decisions. Among our twenty-three Prime Ministers, Sir John Alexander Macdonald’s tenure as Prime Minister is remembered as one of the greatest successes in office. Macdonald’s flaws, Macdonald can be looked upon as a role model and Canada’s most memorable Prime Minister. With Sir John A. Macdonald’s outstanding qualities outweighing the flaws this made him a remarkable leader. Macdonald has won the hearts of many during his tenure as Prime Minister as he relates to the people and shows humility considering himself nothing different from the people but one of them. His devotion to help people was clearly shown throughout his accomplishments as one of his opponents stated “ there does not exist in Canada a man who had given more of his time, more of his heart, more of his wealth or more of his intellect power, such as they may be, for the good of the Dominion of Canada.” Through some of Macdonald’s greatest achievements the citizens of Canada can believe that their first Prime Minister was very devoted to Canada and her people and helped shape Canada to the great nation it is today. Additionally, Sir John A. Macdonald is looked upon as a role model as he is known for the way he treats people as he was kind, courteous and humble. Macdonald always displayed these traits and it allowed people to love being in his presence. He was constantly leaving incredible impressions towards people, an example of this is when he visited the Council House and met more than thirty farmers and with only thirty minutes of conversing he knew them all by name. Lastly, the most prominent attribute that Macdonald inherits is his honesty. In comparison to a majority of the other politicians he was in fact one of the most honest Prime Ministers. Despite the Pacific Scandal, Sir John A. Macdonald rarely made promises that were not fulfilled. Therefore, due to his honesty and humble mentalities, Sir John A.
