In the field of Arts and Architecture, there are many such names, which are not only held in great respect and honor, but have also been a source of great inspiration for the future generations. Skidmore, Owings and Merrill or SOM, as they are more commonly known as, are such pioneers in American history, which are held in great esteem for the many contributions that they have made in the field of Architecture. The firm was initially founded by Louis Skidmore and Nathaniel Alexander Owings in the year 1936 in Chicago and was later expanded to New York in the year 1937 and was later joined by John Ogden Merrill in the year 1939 (CURL). The firm made teamwork as the basis for their company and it has been the result of this philosophy that after working more than 6 decades, the company is still strong and still capturing the imagination of the people. The company has been associated with some of the most prestigious projects in the USA and even beyond that. The company is known to handle some of the most challenging projects in the world over, the likes of which included the Sears Tower, Jin Mao Building in China, Hong Kong Exhibition and Convention Center in China, besides many other names, and the latest accomplishment of the company has been in the form of Burj Khalifa in Dubai, which is the world's tallest building.
