Akachi Ghanzel 9/15/1684

I 9/18/1684

I woke up this day, to find myself in a sack. I was traded to these two men. They did not treat me well. I had to work for my own food and if I didn’t work I would get flogged by whips. They did not like me for I am black; yet in my own mind I am a free man who is only told by God what to do. I was beat 3 times. Blood ran over my whole back, this was the most pain I’ve ever felt in my life. They fed me stale bread, and called me a nigger. Who did they think I was? To think, this was the very beginning and it would get worse over time. I worried about my family, and how they would react to me being gone.

He had jumped off the ship, into the deep blue sea. The captain ordered his children to catch the negro, for he was young and strong. Sadly they caught him, and the captain personally beat him. The next morning I found him on the sick deck, dead.

Month Of The Sun, Day 25

We saw birds. Birds were always a sign of land. Millions of them. Jumping into the water and catching fish. I had never had a better dinner in all my days in the ship. We were served fried bird, with potato and water. It had filled my stomach up in the best way possible. I never felt so relived of myself then at that moment in time.

I woke up to find myself in a cage with my brothers. We were on land. My sisters were kept in another cage, on the other side. We had small beds, and we were cold for it was midday.
