One of my biggest pet peeves is hearing people smack gum with their mouths open. To keep myself from freaking out and hurting someone’s feelings, I have had to try to change my behavior. Instead of confronting someone about it, I remove myself from the situation. First, I am presented with the sound of a friend smacking gum. The sound serves as the discriminative stimulus for punishment. This causes me to react with internal disgust. To decrease the future possibility of hearing them smack gum again, I stop hanging out with them. This situation is an example of positive punishment; I wish to reduce my chances of feeling disgusted from the sound by removing myself from the situation. Hearing friend smack gum: Disgust → Decreased socialization

Most people believe that the process of chewing gum can be distracting not only to the chewer, but to the surrounding persons.
I like to think of myself as a nice person, so I try not to say or do anything rude to those who chew with an open mouth. However, it takes all of my power and self control not to stab those people with a fork. Talking with a mouthful of food and chewing on food with an open mouth are examples of improper etiquette and very annoying and disrespectful behavior. Open-mouth chewing is my biggest pet peeve, and I would prefer to never be in the vicinity of a person who is obnoxiously smacking their lips when they

Toni Morrison’s Song of Solomon rigorously examines human behavior through a lens of storytelling—it explores ideas of how stories influence their audiences, how they justify actions, and especially how the ways they are told represent the people who tell them. Morrison often uses metaphors not only as rhetorical embellishment but in dialogue throughout her novel, supporting an idea that authors George Lakoff and Mark Johnson suggest in their book, Metaphors We Live By—that metaphor itself exists outside the constraints of language and serves as a conduit of notion and action. In Song of Solomon, just like in Lakoff and Johnson’s critical theory piece, metaphor extends beyond literary flourishes—it dominates the way that the characters perceive
For my experiment on breaking norms, I choose to chew with my mouth open in the Clinton Dining Hall, and Subway’s eating area. I was very nervous to break this norm because I was brought up knowing that eating with my mouth open was not polite in public. I felt that maybe people would get
Some rude persons actually put chewed gum under tables and desks. This is certainly inexcusable.

There I was, sitting at the dinner table once again, challenged by my tenacious enemy, my sister. To be more accurate, my “enemy” is not my sister, but instead the smacking sound she makes when she chews. My enemy follows me everywhere I go; to lunch at school, to Starbucks with friends, to Yogurt Land on a date. It is always following me. I hate the sound of smacking, and I believe the world would be a better place if people simply chewed with their mouths closed.

Effective contingencies that function as punishers have some basic principles that distinguish them from other ineffective contingencies. Punishment is a response or a contingency that suppresses the future occurrence of a similar response. It is a consequence that causes pain or discomfort and teaches an individual not to repeat what caused the punishment. In the third section of Punishment on trial, Ennio Cipani summarizes six basic principles of effective punishment. These principles are:
Nicotine use is a leading preventable cause of death in the world, directly and indirectly responsible for 440,000 deaths per year. The health problems that result in tobacco use tally an annual of $75 billion in direct medical costs (Slovic 36). That money spent on medical problems for smokers should be used to pay for more important things in our society such as schools, libraries, childcare, etc.
Negative reinforcement and forms of punishments like reprimands and social isolation can help alter behavior, but should be used with caution. Teachers can reinforce desirable student behavior through attention, recognition, praise and other reinforcers. An article entitled "Food For Thought: Teacher Nonverbal Immediacy, Student Learning, and Curvilinearity" touched on immediacy behaviors as a type of reinforcer.
The mucilage of this plant has disintegrating properties, it contains L-rhamnose, D-galactose, D-galactouronic acid, and D-glucuronic acid [6,28]. Shah and Patel prepared acelofenac ODT by DC using 6% of this disintegrant, the disintegration time was found to be 20 seconds. The results of Swelling Ratio (SR) , angle of repose, bulk density and compressibility index were observed as 9, 26.5oC, 0.65g/cc and 16% respectively [40] which indicates excellent flow and good compressibility according to European pharmacopeia classification [41].
