As a freshman student at the University of Delaware I imagine myself participating in school activities (clubs) as well focusing on classes. I look forward to meeting new people, living in a dorm, and becoming independent. I will feel most comfortable in the smaller class settings and joining activities that I have done before. Where I will need to stretch is in the larger classroom settings (asking questions and answering questions) and trying new activities out of my comfort zone.
Furthermore, a distinct set amount of money should not have been the objective of our fundraiser. Setting a goal of $50 - $100 may have been a form of pressure on the group members. Having a funds goal could have disconcerted our own perceptions of the message behind the Toonies for Turkeys placing a great strain on group members if they were not able to raise at least $50. Thus, we may have shifted our focus from enlightening Calgarians on the issues surrounding poverty in Calgary to reaching a monetary intent. Even though money was a vital part of our fundraiser, it was not the only ambition behind it. Educating people and recognizing the impact of such education is what should have been the major focal point of our Toonies for Turkeys fundraiser.
Jacob is in the 5th-grade, whom has been diagnosed with ADHD and an emotional/behavioral disorder. He has trouble identifying with children his own age. He can be very aggressive and speaks very loudly. Academically Jacob is currently on a third grade level. He has become very frustrated with school and does not recognize the importance of an education. Because of his frustrations, he will have temper tantrums. Jacob needs constant help throughout the day working through his emotional/behavioral issues (Case Study). This paper will summarize and discuss why or why not an inclusive, resource, or self-contained classroom would provide the best placement for Jacob, and discuss related services, technology, and collaboration models for each possible
“I gripped the reed and wires and waited for the miracle. Finally it came, at first a tiny light that flickered from my palm, then a surging magnificent glow. The crowd gasped and shuddered.” (Kamkwamba, 2). William cannot be described with only three traits, but I will try my best. In the book, William shows perseverance, ingenuity, and resourcefulness. The fact that he could take an idea and create a source of energy is astonishing. Even through the famine and through doubt his peers, he managed to create a masterpiece.
Being able to attend the University of Delaware would be a remarkable experience. With the ample amount of challenging work and activities that the university has to offer, I would expect the best college experience I could possibly get. I would feel most comfortable in the social setting (clubs, sports, fraternities, etc.) and would need to stretch in academics. I can do better than a 3.5 G.P.A. The University of Delaware would be the best fit to challenge myself academically.
1. The only change in the classroom was all of the children special notes from their parents, "My child is Special because" The teacher posted them on all them were posted on the door.
The observation sites selected were selected for their stark contrast thus allowing for the most in depth analysis of the differences and similarities in play at these two different locations. The two locations where Central Classroom Building (CCB) 117 from one to two pm on the 22nd of September and traditional equipment play structure park area in Morgan Hill form three to four pm on the 23rd of September. There were eight kids surveyed at these two locations, they were all partaking in play of some sort and in a setting that encouraged it.
From reading tidbits about the student life and watching videos I can tell students genuinely enjoy their experiences there. This is important because a united student body of like-minded people are unstoppable. As an accredited liberal arts college, I know that my thoughts and philosophies will mesh well within the student body and I'm excited to hear the diverse opinions of my peers. Being on the debate team at my school made me love hearing well crafted debates and differing thoughts, which I'm positive flourishes within the confines of the school. As a student, I am self-motivated and strong-minded, I would look forward to participating in class discussions and trying to wrap my head around everyone's opinions. The smaller class sizes of Dickinson are conducive to that effect, and a smaller class, for me, would push me to be a more active member. Also, something that I appreciate as a person is that Dickinson sent me stickers which I just adore so I won't lie that does contribute to me wanting to
On December 4, 2015 we observed the class for which we developed this response plan. Our main objective was to observe the setup of the classroom as well as the different instructional tools the teacher used to enhance her teaching. In addition, we wanted to see what strategies the teacher implemented to help the ELL and autistic students and see if they were similar to what had in our plan. Upon arriving, we observed that the teacher, Ms. Schmitt, had a large classroom with enough space for groups of students to work together. At the front of the classroom, was the teacher’s desk with a smart board behind it. Several other white boards filled the rest of the wall space. The board on the left was used mostly for instructional purposes while the two on the right were filled with vocabulary and important announcements such as upcoming tests dates. The extra space allowed the teacher to interact with all the students individually. Also, we noted that the teacher had placed the ELL students near the front of the room where she could easily help them or ask them to help each other. The students on the Autism spectrum where located near the back of the classroom where they had more room to work with their aids. However, none of these students were completely isolated from the teacher or rest of the class. Rather all of the students were able to easily interact with one another.
Finally, real heroes in today’s society in media are violent criminals, pimps who have plenty of “sexy” ladies dancing by their side. This is really noticeable in rap music videos and other media sources in general. The music industry makes men who are totally built with six-pack abs as gods and shows women are their biggest fans. You’re also only considered a “valuable” woman by these built men if you have big breasts, a big butt and a tiny waist. This idea is supported by Byron Hurt who states that women always fall in love with men who are physically fit which further forces many young men to adopt a tough guy appearance. The consequence to this trend is the increase in domestic violence where 5.3 million cases of domestic violence are reported
I guess being at University of Delaware will be one of the most exciting journeys I will ever have. The rigorous course curriculum, highly experienced faculty and the mesmerizing beauty of the campus has hypnotized my senses. Even picturing myself working with the enthusiastic Blue hens, working on real life projects in Internships, experiencing an entirely new way of learning at study abroad programs, and realizing that sky is the limit at UD makes me grin like a Cheshire cat. I will feel more comfortable in the class than outside the classroom. Being a student from a small country I won’t be accustomed with the US culture like small talk, liberal views, dating etiquettes and lot more which will make me a bit uncomfortable outside the classroom.
After walking through the halls of Randall just during one passing period, one could say the hallways are filled with all different types of people, the couple, the eager freshman with the fear of always being late to class, the slow one and many more. If you were not too occupied with judging the types of people that surround you, you would notice how congested the hallways have become. Over the past few years, Randall has seen a huge increase in the student population.
The overall functioning of a classroom is impacted by trust, safety, and consistency. When a student does not feel safe he or she will reflect this through his or her behavior. Trust is important for students to take risks and allow learning to occur in the classroom. Trust, safety, and consistency are beneficial in the learning environment. A classroom where students feel safe, realize the teacher is consistent, and trust is developed, will allow students to grow and change socially, emotionally, and academically. This will offer a positive learning environment.
My non human teacher has been my plant that I had planted in the beginning of the quarter. To be honest, my interactions with my plants have been minimal. the plant pot stays inside the house and water whenever I can remember. When I do give attention to my plant I feel at peace just by looking at it and giving water to it. It helps clear things out of my head and focus on my plant. My non human teacher has taught me to pay attention and be patient. I didn't pay much attention to my plant therefore my plant didn't grow a lot. At first I was determined to make sure my plant grew and was going to stay on top of it, but as the quarter went by I did not take care of it as well and that is why it didn't grow as much as it could have. This has made
When I first found out I was being placed in a departmentalized classroom, I wasn’t sure how to feel about it. I was upset that I was going to solely be in a math classroom and I was not going to be seeing any ELA. However, after being at my placement and being in a departmentalized classroom I have realized all it can teach me. Now I appreciate that I am able to see two classes being taught the same material. It is very neat to watch how the different personalities in the classes causes the students to react differently to every lesson. I like teaching both classes and being able to see the differences in each class. Sometimes, my mentor will even change her lesson after teaching the first class if she realizes something could have gone
I visited Maine Maritime Academy in April for a tour of the campus. I had been on several other college tours but nothing really seemed to interest me until I drove onto the MMA campus. I had been looking for that “small school experience”, since the school I currently attend is fairly small. MMA was what I was looking for. I believe that I am a hands on learner, and MMA gives me the opportunity to use and improve those skills. I’m also look forward to all the potential opportunities that come with attending MMA. I’ve seen the simulators and spoke with a couple of students regarding their experiences. MMA sets itself apart from any other college I have considered because of the job placement aspect of the college. MMA is unique in its offerings-
