Small World, and Too Many People
In the world there are 7.125 billion people as of 2013 stated by Google’s public data. In the United States alone as of 2014 there are 318.9 million people. The United States has one of the highest populations in the world. The second highest is Japan with 127.3 million people as of 2013, and third is the United Kingdom with 64.1 million people as of 2013(Google Public Data). If everyone in the United States would line up in a single file line they would go around the earth 7 times, knowing there are that many people that can go around the Earth so many times, can prove that there is some type of problem with the growth of the population. In 1915, there were 100.5 million people in nearly 100 years the population in the United States has more than tripled (Google Public Data). In 2050 scientist predicted that there would be 438 million people, which was predicted for 2008 (Haub). The United States is 119.1 million away from meeting that prediction and it is only 2015. Many people believe that there are too many people in the United States, which is the many causes of many acts that prohibit people to come into the U.S.A. In the United States it is still treated as a national security issue. Population growth has become a problem throughout the world, but in some places more than others. The United States has the highest population growth in the past one hundred years with the advancement of
1. What will be the worldwide trend for population growth of industrialized countries of the world in the future?
Population Growth is an issue that exists in today’s world that needs to be confronted before it becomes out of hand. The population itself has reached overwhelming numbers making it a problem that could turn to be dangerous. The amount of humans that the earth can support or the carrying capacity is slowly rising but at a much slower rate than the population growth rate. The increasing growth rate has its negative effects environmentally, agriculturally, socially, and economically and also has its positive effects nationally, and economically. The government is brainstorming and trying to come up with ways to decrease
The United States is the third most populated country in the world. This country holds about 4.5% of the world’s population. The U.S. population is currently estimated to have 308.7 million persons. This number is more than double of the population from 1950. Besides the fact of the population has doubled its size, the population has also become qualitatively different from the one from 1950. As noted by the Population Reference Bureau, “The U.S. is getting bigger, older, and more diverse.” The growth of the population is the result of the trends over time in the relationship of increased births, decreased deaths, and increased net immigration.
Colby, S. & Ortman, J. (2015). Projections of the Size and Composition of the U.S. Population: 2014 to
Uncontrollable, problematic, and overly populated are words that come to mind when immigration is mentioned. For many years’ immigration has become a huge problem throughout the world, in several places. Immigration is the migration of non-native citizens into a country with the hopes of settling there (“immigration”). People of different ethnicities settling into another country without citizenship is illegal and creates a lot of controversy. This controversy can stir up things such as racism, over population and more. Most immigrants that migrate to another country move for multiple reasons. These reasons could be to
The U.S. is slammed by growing numbers in population. It seems that many do not think of the long term effects of this increase. This is one of the most significant problems Americans face today, yet no one talks about the problem, when it comes to the debate over immigration. “The current world population is over 6 billion and increases at a rate of 76,570,430 people every year. Since 1950, U.S. population has nearly doubled - growing from 151 million to over 294 million today. If present trends continue, our population will exceed 400 million by the year 2050. Immigration contributes over one million people to the U.S. population annually. The total foreign-born population in the U.S. is now 31.1 million, a record 57 percent
In life, everyone wants to have somebody they can call a friend. The unfortunate reality of this is that at some point in time, almost every person will experience loneliness. Of Mice and Men, by John Steinbeck, deals with the hardships of two friends who put their belief in a giant pipe dream. The book follows George and Lennie’s troubled and laborious life until their plans go very awry. “King of Hoboes, Arvel Pearson”, by Errol Lincoln Uys, is a nonfiction text which overviews Arvel Pearson’s life as a professional hobo. This includes a detailed version of what it was like to be a hobo in the time period known as the Great Depression and provides an idea of
Given the present immigration trends, which will account for 70 to 80 percent of the population growth in the next century, it is only a matter of time before the population of the U.S. surpasses that of India and China. Why would any nation want to implement such a disastrous policy? The answer is that few Americans, especially politicians, look past the next couple of years. It is sometimes suggested that if we find we are overpopulated we can then cut back on immigration.
The population of the United States continues to grow due to illegal immigrants entering the country. 95,000 foreigners enter the United States every day from all around the world (Martin, 2003). Even though so many enter every day, most of the people do not intend to stay, but rather are here for a limited time. However, of those 95,000 that enter, over one thousand are illegal immigrants who intend to enter and settle (Martin, 2003). They come here so that they can have a better life for themselves and for their families. Just think if one thousand want to stay, and that many come every day, the number is continuing to increase in huge numbers every year. With so many immigrants coming into the United States it will begin to wear down the environment and
The primary reason for over-population in the US is due to illegal immigration. This is a very serious issue discussed almost every day with the government, on the news, and in the newspapers. It’s hard to say what the actual number of unauthorized immigrants are since they reside in the country under cover or illegally. Once here, they seek out employment, mainly as day laborers. Once the head of household has migrated and has an income, the rest of the family members follows. The wife’s later give birth to a baby who becomes a legal citizen. This is then causing an influx in the school systems and classrooms, therefore, depriving children of the right to education. The overcrowding in classrooms is contributing to
The United States already had an overpopulation problem. Now that the population is growing even more we have more cities and states being overpopulated. According to Support U.S. Population Stabilization (SUSPS), if our population trend continues, we will be able to add enough population to create another New York City, Los Angeles, Chicago, Philadelphia, Baltimore, San Francisco, Indianapolis, San Jose, Memphis, Washington D.C., Jacksonville, Milwaukee, Boston, Columbus, New Orleans, Cleveland, Denver, Seattle, and El Paso - plus the next 75 largest cities in the U.S. - by 2020. According to Federation for American Immigration Reform (FAIR), low-ranking countries have high population growth and high ranking countries have lower population
World population is somewhere in the neighborhood of seven billion and the United States contributes a good amount of that and the room is getting all over there place. Everywhere you look you see babies, on the street or in the store, this means people are having children in the United States and the world. I am going to explain why the people of the red white and blue should only be able to have two children per family. Multiple children will grow up and crowd the job market, less space for the people in the states to live, and finally it helps with the narrowing of individuality in the classroom. Our country is becoming somewhat crowded and will continue to be this way unless there is a limit on the number of kids American families can have.
In the world there are many populous nations, originally they were not so populated. Such is the case of the United States of America. During the first half of the century, the US population grew rapidly for many causes. The main cause was immigration from different groups of people that came to America for many push and pull factors. Another cause of the increase was that less people were dying and were pro rating more. Another factor was manifest destiny which is the “belief or doctrine, held in the 19th century, that it was the destiny of the U.S. to expand its territory over the whole of North America and to extend and enhance its political, social, and economic influences.” (Dictionary)
Unlimited immigration will cause a large population problem. The large population in India has caused increasing unemployment, unsafe environments, and a lack of resources. Following their experience, America should be on the alert that continued rising immigrant numbers will lead to a large population one day. It is estimated that if immigration continues at a current levels, the nation's population will increase from 301 million today to 468 million in 2060 - a 167 million (56 percent) increase (Camarota). Immigrants plus their descendents will account for 105 million (63 percent) of the increase (Camarota). Kofi Annan mentions in her article:
One of the problems facing our world is population. It began about ten thousand years ago when the humans settled and began farming. The farming provides more food for the people thus making the population grow. Now we are about 6 billion in population and in a few years we will be around 10 to 11 billion. Therefore, our population will
