a. When is the project estimated to be completed? How many working days will it take?
The American Nurses Association supports a legislative model in which nurses are encouraged to create staffing plans specific to each unit. This approach will aide in establishing staffing levels that are flexible and can be changed based on the patients needs, number of admissions to the unit, discharges and transfers during each shift (“Nurse staffing plans,” 2013). This model will assist in keeping the unit staffed appropriately and organized in need of a change during each shift. Without an organized plan like this, a nurse may be required to take on a new admission and already have too big of a workload.
In addition, nurse managers must make skilled staffing and scheduling decisions to ensure that safe and cost-effective care is provided by caregivers (Yoder-Wise, 2015, p. 256). However, as a nurse manager I would select “to require hospitals to have a nurse driven staffing committee which create staffing plans that reflect the needs of the patient population and match the skills and experience of the staff.” In addition, as a nurse manager, I would also select “for legislators to mandate specific nurse to patient ratios in legislation or regulation” since during the TJC accreditation process, the surveyor reviews the staffing plans developed by the nurse manager for any obvious staffing deficiencies, such as, a shift or series of shifts in which the unit staffing plan is not met (Yoder-Wise, 2015, p.
Interdepartmental communication and medical errors have both been proven as causes of harm to patients in health care settings. When there are gaps in communications between nurses changing shifts or patient transitions from one department to another, medical errors can occur and cause harm to patients. Even though there has been improvement in recognition of these problems and actions taken to reduce communication gaps and medical errors, there still needs to be more work, especially in individual facilities.
regulate RN staffing based on patients ' needs by reducing amount of patients assigned for those who need more arduous care.
3) Describe end state and goals-My goal, over the course of this class is to change the staff schedule to match that of the operating room and to transition to Stay Staffed self scheduling systems hospital wide. The daily schedule will include but is not limited to a minimum of six nurses per day with schedules that parallel the operating room turnover times. Also, I have begun working with upper level management on a program that allows critically ill, intubated patients to bypass the recovery room and be directly admitted to the critical care area that the patient is assigned to. This saves the patient and family money and decreases patient load for the recovery room staff. My goal is to hire three new nurses and change the staff schedule from (4) twelve-hour days to (3 to 4) eight to ten hour days and create a weekend on call team. Instead of mandatory overtime, create a sign up list and make overtime optional. Please see example of new schedule below:
My own personal approach to this issue to concentrate how resolve the staff ratio problem for patient safety. because seema will choose to connect with employee in the leadership decision making. Seema wants to more successful in the nursing management. Nurse leader needs to make a plane every day according to patient ratio and divided the limited patient to per nurse which one the nurses can take care easily and can accept the good outcome. Because patient satisfaction is very important for the nurses and nursing management. Seema will have encouraged people to provide feedback about my leadership direction and will be aware about the schedules up every few weeks in order to keep the work environment safe and healthy. It will be big help to
Brandt continues to learn more about department issues during his rounds, meetings and also from patient input. He will need to ensure to collaborate with Charge Nurse consistently to unsure all aspects of operations are covered and reviewed. This important collaboration will improve his assessment on identifying root case of problems and improving options in problem solving.
The nurse manager stated that her vision for her unit was to have her entire staff be clinically sound and function confidently under adverse client load. She expects upmost teamwork from her staff and expects the unit to operate efficiently with upmost regard for staff and client safety.
As promised, I have managed to come out with something. These goals are challenging. I will wish we take just one. However, taking a second goal will not be a problem if the goal is gear toward networking.
| I am going to be involved in this implementation with leadership team, nurse manager and director of nursing.
For this goal I did weekly sheets to see my development. I did the first weekly sheet in 19th December 2011.
Critical care nursing is a roller coaster ride. It has a lot of surprises throughout the day and you never know what is around the corner. Our Critical Care Step-Down Unit here at Davenport Hospital has a capacity of 30 beds (6 private and 12 semi-private rooms). 2 West accommodates a variety of patients such as adult postsurgical, trauma, seizures, renal failure, and myocardial infraction patients. This unit provides care for patient that have been discharged from an Intensive Care unit, but they are not stable and require a high level of monitoring before they return in a general medical surgical floor. Lately our unit has been struggled with staff shortage. It has been weeks that in the day shift there are only 3 register nurses and each of them provide care to 6 or 7 patients. Based on the hospital protocol policy nurse-to-patient ratio in a step-down unit must be 1:4 or fewer at all times. In addition, I am designing this written proposal to seek approval of hiring a new critical care nurse in 2 west step-down unit. The above proposed nursing position will definitely benefit both the unit staff and patient population. The nursing shortage can easily lead to nursing burnout such as fatigue, injuries, and dissatisfaction. Also, nurses that work in such conditions are more predisposed on making mistakes and medical errors. This proposal will definitely benefit the patient who are being treated on this unit as well. According to Huber (2014), “effective staffing has been
The sum of education, experiences, and observations lays a foundation upon which I will grow to become a good leader. In this plan, I will focused on those aspects of leadership that I believe are most required for personal development as well as those which will be so significant for my future leadership career. I have identified three goals which will guide me in the development process. My goals are to develop my integrity, listening skills and communications skills. I assume that this plan will change and be altered as required by life circumstances.
It will also detail what milestones must be met to be able to successfully coordinate effort within the project timeline and meet the inauguration date as planned, without the milling of any other milestones nor the compromising of any nor all deliverables. Finally, it ensures the appropriate risk mitigation is in place to meet the final deliverables and the timeline requirements within every project phase.
