Taking the Smarter Measure assessment allowed me to learn so many interesting things about myself, stuff I didn't even know. A fact that took me by surprise was the fact that i’m an aural learner, which means that I learn through listening. I always thought of myself as a visual learner, but being an aural learner makes sense since I have always correlated memories with music. One result that didn’t really surprise me was that I can read 307 words per minute, as a kid I have always loved to read. In elementary school, I used to read in a fifth grade level while being in third grade! Now when I read a book, I can finish it in either a day or two. My reading recall was at 70%, which to me, I think its bad. I need to improve on reading and remembering what I read, a way that helps me remember stuff better is if I read out loud a part of the passage that I think is important, which makes sense since I am an aural learner. …show more content…
My typing accuracy was at 98% since I ended up misspelling one word. In my time management skills, I learned that my two strengths were: Help Seeking and Procrastination. I hate doing things at the last minute since it stresses me out, so normally I love doing things ahead of time. When I don’t understand a question, I always make sure to ask the professor for help. I prefer asking a million questions than to get an assignment back with a bad grade because I was too afraid to ask for help. Although I do have my strengths, I also have my weaknesses and those are: Persistence and Locus of
After completing the Smarter Measure assessment, I have come to realize that although I am doing good, there are some things in my life that I need to improve on. For example, I am no expert when it comes to computers, I am extremely slow at typing, and I don't like asking questions all that often. However, I believe that I can work on these faults to truly make myself better. First, I will step out of my comfort zone, and ask questions to help me gain understanding, no matter what. Next, to help me with computers, I can ask someone I know, such as my parents, to teach me how to excel on Word, as well as how to properly download documents/PDFs. After I am taught the gist of it all, I will continue on to seek more information from online
The SmarterMeasure assessment is used by Jefferson College to assess whether or not a student is prepared to take an online course or a class where technology is readily used. The test analyzes five different areas of readiness: life factors, personal attributes, technical competency, technical knowledge, and reading recall. Within each area, sub areas are used to tell the student where their strengths and weaknesses are. A student is measured on a scale of one to four in each of the areas, with four being the highest. For example, a student scoring a four performs well with that skill, but a student scoring a one may want to seek improvement in that area before taking a college online course.
I know that my weak spot is time management but I am always looking and thinking of ways to help. I try to do my work as soon as it is assigned. To help improve my time management skills I have set
This motivates and energizes me in way that I can’t really describe. One of the weaknesses that are listed I can directly relate to. Impatience with other people’s inefficiency is defiantly a weakness of mine. I recall a time when I was working with my brothers. We were trying to get cut pieces of wood loaded onto my dad’s trailer. I wanted to get it done fast so I was trying to organize my brothers to get it done quickly and I noticed that my younger brother was going at a very slow pace and would frequently stop and wait. I didn’t like what I was seeing so I let him know right away that he needed to pick up the slack. After some time I realized that he wasn’t going any faster than he was before and I was growing very impatient by then so I ended up yelling at him. I realize that I try to come up with the most efficient and effective ways of doing things and try to have other people do it the same way and if they don’t I can lose my temper and that is a very recognized characteristic of an ENTJ.
Weaknesses that I tend to show as a student is to have poor time management at certain times, leading to negative results such as procrastination which could ultimately stacks upon failure and poor performance in classes.
I may have a few weaknesses, but also have a couple of good strengths when it comes to school. I am very organized when it comes to paper work and class. I normally have a folder for each class and divided by different sections. Being on time is a big strength for me. I do not like to be late. Being on time also makes me prepare for class calm and not anxious.
Weaknesses I have had difficulty on is having to write essays. Every time my teachers assign me work to perform that involves writing an essay for instance, I tend to get frustrated. I would often spend hours trying to craft an idea on what to write about and how I should word it in my essay. An additional problem is when I read the paper to myself and looks fine, but when I turn the paper over to someone else, they do not find the point I was trying to convey. Then, I would have to verbally express the key ideas or meaning of the essay. My next two weaknesses are the ones that I still continue to kind of struggle. Those weaknesses are not finding the right words to write and being easily
In my academic life, my bad social skills may be a hindrance in my ability to be successful in college. This is because my problem has interfered with my course work since it forces me to not ask for help and get nervous in social situations. Also, this affects my ability to accomplish goals. These problems are shown by the results of my Smarter Measure, which shows a low score in my social abilities and by personal experiences.
One of my greatest strengths in school is having a desire to improve my studies and reach my goals. I maintain an excellent grade point average in hopes of attending a graphic design college. Another strength that I acknowledge is my mistakes and am willing to seek for help. If I realize that I can't finish a paper due to lack of knowledge, I will ask for help. An additional strength I have as a student is patience. Patience is a key quality for students because we have to put up with teachers and other students we might not be able to succeed with. Besides these qualities of a valuable student, I also have enough time to study and also perform very well in several classes. Although I may have a great deal of strengths as a student, I also have some weaknesses. One weakness that I have is being quiet. A reason for this weakness is I have a lot to offer to a class, but being quiet and shy effects me to being able to stand up and say what I have to say. With that being said I can become easily distracted. If a teacher is talking about a paper that's going to be due next week, and a group of student are whispering my mind will wander off into their
Often, I find it difficult to make the initial steps of breaking and crossing barriers. The benefits that I gain each time I cross barriers shows me that I often get in the way of my own success. Unlike other subjects, I need to put forth greater efforts in understanding the concepts presented in math. Weakness in math can discourage me from achieving the academic success and grade point average (GPA) I strive for. Despite being adept at communicating my thoughts vocally, I find difficulty doing the same through writing. Not being able to formulate my thoughts into well written sentences is a major weakness, as writing is an important aspect of every field. Time management is another skill I need to improve. Mismanagement of time leads me to indulge in wasteful tasks, often leading me to accomplish less than what I hoped. Finally, I can easily be frustrated, frequently being impatient with myself and with my work. When a task is not going as well as planned, I momentarily surrender by taking a break to clear my mind, and to avoid handling the
Two other weaknesses are time-management and organization. These two goes hand in hand and I realized that I suffer tremendously from lack thereof and have found multiple solutions to help enhance these weaknesses as I expressed in the IDP. I feel these two will be challenging as well because I realize that organization at work is limited. It is much more of filling in the gaps and
My weak area was the self-regulation portion; most of my responses to how often I handled each situation were “usually.” I need to improve on controlling my feelings in certain situations, trying to be more aware of tasks and their proposed deadlines, managing my time wisely, and executing new ideas that I myself have formulated. Other weaknesses were found in most of the areas where my strengths were. Most of them involved taking risks, which my personality often deters me from engaging in.
During the semester, I learned to focus on my strengths and work on my weaknesses. I could use my organization, paragraph structure, and transition skills to keep high quality writing. This will be helpful to assure an above average grade when I take English 102 during the summer. On the other hand, although students often try to avoid their weaknesses, I see them as useful. Knowing my weaknesses gives me the opportunity to work on them until they become strengths. For example, as I mentioned before, organization is presently my biggest strength. However, at the beginning of the course, it wasn’t. I had to practice and work on it until it became natural and
I now know that my weaknesses particularly lack of confidence is through lack of knowledge in a specific area and can be boosted by improving my self management and allocating dedicated periods of time to a specific topic. This in itself will help me overcome the majority of my weaknesses and boost my confidence, in turn this will have a knock on effect in improving my assertiveness and concentration and avoid selling myself short. As stated by Chuck Gallozi Internet article 08.12.09 “Many are painfully aware of weaknesses that hold them back. Yet, surprisingly, they are unaware of their many strengths. Focusing on our weaknesses while ignoring our strengths can be a source of discouragement and failure. And glorifying our strengths while ignoring our weaknesses can be equally unproductive. It is only when we give equal weight to our strong points and faults that we can realise our potential. Also note that we must choose our friends carefully because each relationship nurtures our strengths and weaknesses. That is, we will grow better or worse, depending on whom we spend our time with. “ Choosing associates at University is not an option ,but I
My greatest strength as a student is my perseverance. No matter the difficulty of an assignment, I choose to give it my all until the end. For example, a challenge I have faced several times as a student is working with uncooperative peers. With such a difficulty, I choose to stay calm and compromise ideas with others to solve the problems. Nevertheless, if the problem is not resolved I will continue to work on the assignment until it is complete with the my best work. I have noticed that I am not discouraged by such problems, but instead use these complications as learning points in my educational experience. However, considering my strength I have a promising weakness to balance out my work habit; I am a
