Does anyone in your family smoke tobacco? If so, you should know that it’s the leading cause of preventable death, also pollutes the environment and contributes to deforestation and it slowly is killing our youth and our future. I have many friends and family members that smoke the age ranging from 14-80 years old. Most of them are either quitting or trying to quit, the statistics in the united states for people that are trying to quit smoking is every 7/10 smokers, in 2015 55.4% of adult smokers had tried to quit smoking in the past year. Although it might be hard to quit smoking it is worth it! Smoking is the leading cause of preventable deaths. Every year 439,000 people die from smoking. Non-smokers live about an average of 10 years more than smokers. …show more content…
Smoking is causing deforestation. 600 million trees are chopped down every year because of the tobacco industry. For every 15 packs a smoker smokes one tree dies. Smoking is also causing major pollution. United states tobacco industries produce 16 million metric tons of carbon dioxide every year, and worldwide is four times as much. Shutting down the tobacco industry would be equivalent to taking 16 million cars off the roads every year! The smoke is not the only component of a cigarette that is bad for the environment, the cigarette buts also do. Cigarettes make up over 1/3 (38%) of all collected litter! The cost for cigarette clean up is allot, cities spend between 3-16 million dollars, just because u where to lazy to walk to the nearest garbage can and dispose of your cigarette correctly. You might think that cigarettes would just decompose due to weathering, but studies show that even after 10 years it still leaves a little residue. This is because a cigarette but is made mostly from plastic. The earth is not a trash can and we only have one, so we must keep it
The smoking habit is the principal cause of illness, disability and death around the world. More than five million of people in the world die due to smoking habit every year. If we don’t take care of this in 2030 the amount will be ten million. Seven million of these deaths would be in poor countries.
Smoking tobacco is probably one of the worst habits humankind has developed. Originating as a tradition of the Native Americans, practiced mostly on special occasions, smoking has gradually become a kind of mass addiction. Due to the efforts of tobacco companies seeking to increase their sales, people started smoking more and more often; the evolution of a more traditional pipe to a cigarette took some time, but eventually tobacco became more affordable and easier to use (you now simply need to light it up, instead of having to always carry a tobacco pouch, stuff a pipe, puff it, and so on). As a result, deaths and health issues connected to tobacco consumption became a worldwide
Has someone ever asked you to smoke a cigarette? As a senior in high school, I can honestly say that I've been asked quite a few times. Surrounding yourself with people who smoke or use tobacco products, can lead to peer pressure when asked to try one. The legal age to buy any tobacco product is at the age of 18. Most people are attending their last year in high school at that age. This makes it easier for people to sell tobacco products to a minor. Although smoking is very common nowadays, many people believe that there are a few benefits towards smoking tobacco. Some of these benefits include, decrease in metabolism which will help you achieve weight loss and smoking is shown to help handle your emotions in a stronger way. Once the persons
Listen, can you hear that? Your heart is begging you to stop smoking. Well, not exactly. Think about this, 480,000 people in the U.S and 100,000 people in the UK die from smoking each year. It's the largest preventable death in the world! If you knew how bad it is for you, would you stop smoking? That's quite something to think about, isn't it?
The pack was tossed Saturday morning. You got through the weekend smoke free. But now it's Monday and the regular smoking crew is already outside your office building.
Do you know someone that smokes? Do you wish you could make them stop? The smell of cigarettes and even the site of them make me nauseous. I have no ill feeling towards anyone who smokes, but what if I could encourage you to stop? Today I am here to persuade you not to smoke cigarettes due to health risk and death, the hazardous chemicals contained in cigarettes and the effects of secondhand smoke. I am hoping the facts I present you will help you quit.
I am writing to persuade you to quit smoking. The are two main overall issues that you should consider when smoking are health and financial. After you read this you will have all the reasons to quit smoking and no reason to not.
It is a lot of fun to go out with your friends, but it is not safe when you are around a smoker. Smoking is bad for you and the people who are around you. Since 1964 about 2.5 million people died from secondhand smoking. Restaurants and bars should either be smoke-free or have a room for smoking. You should not be able to smoke in public.
Cigarette smoking causes more than 480,000 deaths each year in the United States. This means about one out of every five deaths is a result of smoking. In addition to outright death, smoking has many detrimental effects on the lives of smokers and those around them. Fires, second-hand smoke, and smoking related motor vehicle accidents all plague the world and those in it. Tobacco should be made illegal because of the horrible consequences it inflicts on smokers and non-smokers alike.
Smoking is the leading cause of over 480,000 deaths each year in the United States alone. This makes smoking the second leading cause of death in the United States. Smoking is a serious issue that has been limited throughout time, but these limitations are not enough. Smoking needs to be eliminated, it needs to be illegal. Smoking causes many complications for your health, the environment, and others.
Though CVD might seem like a death sentence for many Americans, it does not have to be. Though there is no cure for CVD, there are plenty of ways for one to prevent or manage CVD. The biggest factor in everyone’s life that causes CVD is poor lifestyle. There are also a few medications and surgical procedures that can be administered or performed to keep one’s CVD in check.
Cigarette smoking is a worldwide epidemic among Americans, and kills more than 480,000 people each year. Cigarette smoking is the leading preventable cause of death in the United States, yet people continue to use cigarettes daily. Cigarettes take many lives from families yearly because after smoking for half of your lifetime, you’re at a much higher risk for getting cancer. Also, cigarettes are very expensive and could have you spending thousands of dollars yearly. Cigarettes also pollute our planet, the smoke and cigarette butts affect the atmosphere the most, going into our air, water and land pollution. Therefore, because cigarette smoking leads to many health problems, deaths, high costs to purchase cigarettes and pollutes the environment we must raise taxes on cigarettes to make them less affordable and educate children from a young age about the harmful risks to smoking cigarettes.
Smoking does harm the environment in several different ways. This can pollute the air and cause a havoc for people residing in specific communities. Smoking does create a poor environment and affect our biodiversity. The cigarette manufacturing process does damage the environment massively. The environment is getting ruined by the tobacco industry. “Tobacco poses a major challenge, not just to health, but also to environmental sustainability”(Nathan Green, November 27, 2013). There are tobacco fields that are planted in rainforests and can lead to disastrous deforestation. This could lead to few amounts of plants and can kill animals. Furthermore, cigarette butts cause plenty amount of litter on the ground. Cigarette butts are not biodegradable also, can dirty and pollute the ecosystem. Cigarette butts pose a threat to wildlife. Plastic pieces are found in animal’s stomach who underestimate them for food. It is dangerous to animals and will hurt them. In addition, it is time consuming for employees to pick the litter on the
Tobacco kills five million people yearly, which is much more then HIV/Aids, Tuberculosis, and Malaria combined, according to International Union Against Cancer. This addicting drug can in fact end up giving the user a death sentence. As the body grows older, the DNA atoms can be mutated by this seemingly harmless plant. This mutation of cells can eventually spread and the user will end up with a body full of cancer. These cancer sticks or cigarettes are not only harmful to your body but also hard on your wallet. The eradication of the use of tobacco would deplete the health risks associated with tobacco, and would put needed money back into the people’s wallets.
To begin, smoking should be outlawed because its effects on our environment are extremely deleterious. It is one of the main causes of environmental pollution. Daily, millions of cigarettes are left on the floor, which ends up in the river. It can harm our waterways and can also harm our soil. Nevertheless, trees are wasted in the process as well (“Have Your Say | Should Smoking Be Banned?”). About fifteen billion packs are sold daily, and to produce 300 cigarettes, a tree is wasted. In addition, 13 million acres are used to grow tobacco. Imagine what we can do with those acres, and maybe grow crops for the millions of poor or the homeless. (“Smoking”) The U.S tobacco industry produces 16 million tons of Carbon Dioxide yearly. For comparison, a car produces 4 million times less. In addition, there are approximately 4,000 chemicals in a single cigarette. Not to mention, but they consist of super harmful chemicals that can potentially cause death and also affect the environment in an inferior way (“Environmental Impact of Smoking and Tobacco Use”). Some may say that if people smoke in private, it would still not affect the environment because they are not out to the public. And also, people leave cigarettes in trash cans and not of the floor (“60 Reasons for not smoking… and 100 keep on (or take up) smoking”). This is extremely false. Smoking indoors increases the risk of fires and it still can spread around the atmosphere, as it is still in the air. Those thousands of chemicals can also lead to second-hand smoking, which is
