Why does society feel the need to portray happiness and limit the downfalls of the human experience? In a world where everyone is connected sharing information is constant and expanding, who is really happy? With constant feeds from different social media platforms displaying parties, concerts and youthfulness; it continues to illustrates the happiness moments in life. Snapchat has become an application to display small aspects of life but I find no one really displays their disapproval of life or downfalls. Eyes are constantly watching every interaction we display with a click of finger. This generation is used to the constant connection in everyday life. This happiness is not legitimate; it is mostly a facade to makes their “followers” envious of their life and materials. Just check …show more content…
It becomes a platform of competition, no longer a display of happy moments. It seems as if the only moments, we can display are when we are smiling or laughing. What about the feelings of insecurity and disapproval of ones self? This is constantly pushed to the backs of mind and upstaged by the pictures of “happiness”. Society is one huge factor to blame with its idea of everlasting happiness. Tumblr just adds to the fire with its staged photos of happiness from girls on the beach to its idea of good vibrations only. No one really speaks out about how most ups are accompanied by downfalls. Every hill has it peaks and valleys. But who knows, we are so chained to our gadgets to even take a look at nature. Society adds to this only signs of the bad when you turn on the news. We have been forced to see the natural imperfections of man as evil, not fuel to rise to the top. This generation no longer believes in the ideas of hard work when you can gain followers from just aesthetics. We have progressed to only rely on the eye to perceive everything from the images that flood our feeds and the text post that are constantly posted. Celebrities such as Kim
Social media tricks people to believe others are living a ravisher life than they really are. They post only the highlights of their lives, and never the negative. It makes others view them falsely and more presentable than they actually are, which makes those viewing their profiles feel less satisfied with themselves and their lives. There are even some people who drop all social media because of how terrible it makes them feel, but there are also others who thrive for the attention of social media and go through ridiculous tasks in order to take the perfect picture. There have been many disputes over how social media websites such as Instagram or Facebook affects ones self-esteem, it can knock them down.
According to the article entitled “ The Good and Bad of Social Media” by Jason Howie, “ They have looked particularly at its effects on human emotion and relationship. Some studies show that using social media can cause depression.” The usage of the media doesn't just slow you down but can slowly shut your real life down. Therefore social media ends up hitting you from left to right or any possible way it has. The mindset of always wanting to be on it can destroy your life routines, makes you put up with things you shouldn’t put up with. Sometimes, people end up getting bullying and killed for some unnecessary things they do on the media. Furthermore, Howie writes “ We expect more from technology and less from one another. More and more, we desire technologies that provide a false idea of a relationship.” We depend on the media to give us the answers instead of asking our surroundings and communicating with them. We always believe what media tells us and whether it's false or not, we use it believing it's better than our own knowledge. Our privacy isn’t privacy because media after media we end up in a random page which can get our information in just one
One can be happy because they won the lottery, or one can be happy simply because someone smiled at them. Happiness is not hard to acquire, but establishing a consistent and enduring happiness in one’s life is almost impossible if one does not have a strong mental foundation built by a sense of self-fulfillment and independence. Modern society openly ridicules any form of self-content. It is filled with ever-changing advertisements for new ways to become happy quickly. Modern society has essentially spread a narcotic-like addiction to fads; overloading our brain with spikes of serotonin then leaving us in a state of withdrawal. In this society, one is no longer allowed to simply achieve set goals and live the rest of their life in peace; they must evolve, or they will be left behind. Society power and influence is growing at such a rapid rate that there will be a point where no human
High schoolers from more prosperous family units are to some degree more probable than those from the minimum well-to-do homes to say they visit Snapchat frequently, with 14% of those from families procuring more than $75,000 saying Snapchat is their top site, contrasted and 7% of those whose families gain not exactly $30,000 every year. Twitter demonstrates a comparative example by salary, with the wealthiest high schoolers utilizing Twitter more than their minimum well-to-do peers. It ought to be noticed that some of these distinctions may be curios of contrasts being used of these locales by these diverse subgroups of high schoolers. (http://www.pewinternet.org/,
This semester I was a lot more involved than the previous semester. After settling down and getting used to the college atmosphere. I found that there was a lot more to do and get involved with than I previously thought. Some of things things I got involved with range from sporting events, class snapchat, major spotlight, career service (job shadows), dome concerts, union trivia, art exhibition, and UNI research studies. While participating in these activities I gained friends, experience, and memorizes. These activities made freshman year fly by and also gave me a feeling of what it is like to be a Panther. Also just experience a few things that UNI has to offer.
When people are faced with opportunities to pursue happiness, individuals will change their morals and beliefs to fed their greed usually resulting in regretful actions. Individuals experience greed and envy in the world , evidently resulting in a demanding personality. We need to ern everything we want. In order to pursue personal happiness people will compromise the conditions of others. We tend to demand what we want without being concerned about other people. When we demand everything without the concern of others, our morals begin to change and we experience a shift in how we see the world. People are constantly changing their morals and beliefs in a negative way to get what they want. People always want to pursue happiness regardless of the effects they will have on the
Happiness is the goal; it is a state of bliss that everyone experiences at one point or another. Though, does the extreme pursuit of it, by an entire society, create adverse effects, including causing disorder and chaos? Tremendous effort can be brought forth, but to what end? What is the point of preserving a static and artificial contentment? (S. Phillip Morgan) Daily hardships can be thrown out the window, but it comes at a price.
People tend to feel the most happiness in their daily lives rather than happiness over all. For instance, if someone opens the door for you, does something outrageous, tells a funny story or simply reacts kindly to you, you can experience happiness. Laughing at someones joke can cause you to feel happy even for just a moment. Another definition of happiness in our daily lives is self appreciation such as, getting that new raise, getting an A on a test or even getting into the college you want. These examples all cause happiness in different but still rather large ways. We seem to think that happiness is so difficult to come by, we focus so hard on what happiness is that we don't even realize the simple things in life that are truly making a difference. We can become significantly happy without even noticing. Although happiness seems like it’s hard to find it’s not all that difficult. What’s hard to come by is the feeling of genuine happiness ; genuine happiness is what people truly look for.
Snapchat The Snapchat app was launched for everyone’s use irrespective of any limiting demographics but survey showed that it was an instant hit among teenagers and adults in the age groups of 20s and 30s. Snapchat allows its users the obvious chat, videos and messaging services with two unique features. Any photo or video uploaded via Snapchat shall be available to the contacts for ten seconds.
Social media has taken over the way digital companies, and the way businesses operate over the internet, it has also changed the way social media platforms perform now in day. One major application that was able to change the face of social media is Snapchat, it is a multimedia messaging application that lets its users’ communicate through the use of sending short videos and pictures that last for a max of ten seconds and now with its latest update it is able to play videos on a loop. The pictures and videos that are posted are only made available for twenty four hours and then after that they are gone forever, this is what is able to make this application unique and different from the rest. This application has been around for six years, and since its release it has been a favorite for teenagers and adults on this day and age.
Social media can also lead to an unrealistic idea of life. Many people like to show off on social media, for example, showing off money or a new expensive car. When it comes to unrealistic ideas of living it could make people feel envious and jealous. Some people can become obsessed with taking selfies or overly “perfect” pictures, whether it be editing out imperfections or spending an hour trying to get the perfect picture. People can get anxiety from the fear of missing out. When people post about going put every weekend or about how perfect” their lives are, it can make people feel depressed. It can also show unrealistic body standards and lead to eating disorders. A website called National Eating Disorders (2016) has said, “Numerous correlational and experimental studies have linked exposure to the thin ideal in mass media to body dissatisfaction, internalization of the thin ideal, and disordered eating among women”. For example, the social media website
When you hear the word happiness, what is the first thing that comes to mind? Do you think of material possessions like designer clothes and accessories, the newest iPhone with the highest possible storage capacity, or a shiny red supercar? Do you think the amount of money you have or your current financial status has an effect on how happy you are? Plenty of college students, myself included, would associate happiness with possessing items like these or just having a lot of money in general. In today’s society, one common belief about social class is that the richer and more money or things that one has, the happier this will make them. This belief is reinforced by countless advertisements we see and hear everywhere, whether that be on
We see it on billboards, tv, movies, magazines etc. Kids today, grow up thinking that that is all you need in life, like it’s just expected. No one is thinking about the true happiness in the world. I think that is just wrong. Why should it matter what you do and don’t have? Why does society get the right to judge you if you don’t have the nicest cars, or the nicest house but yet you are just as happy? Yeah movies, tv, etc make it seem all nice and they have just everything they could dream of, but do they truly have real happiness, real love, or even real friends and family outside of their money?
According to Sigmund Freud humans must repress their base desires and freedoms in order to adapt to society, thus taking away happiness. This could since a functioning society’s main goal is to increase its population as rapidly as possible, so that more work can be done so that more people can be born and so on, and it achieves this goal in one main. The main way it does this is by protecting its citizens from threats, internal and external, which would harm the population causing a decrease in the potential population. Which end up restricting the population.
Society today has gotten rather lazy. They have stopped focusing on their needs and have given into their wants. What I mean by this is that they have steered away from the path of happiness and have begun driving on the path of amusement. Amusement can be both beneficial and harmful depending on the way it is used. For those who live a life of contemplation and go through life trying to achieve happiness use amusement as a means of rest. They use it to recharge themselves then go back to their hardworking
