Helenium autumnale or the Sneezeweed is native to Kansas, but can be found in most of the united states. Height of the plant can reach anywhere from three to five feet and spreading two to three feet. The Sneezeweed is a flowering perennial that has one to two inch yellow flowers with ray like petals. When we think of prejudice, we often think of racism. However, racism and prejudice are not interchangeable terms. Through the phrase “power plus prejudice,” we have learned that racism, for example, can only be achieved with power. One can only be racist towards someone else if he or she has the power to do so. Meaning, is this person white or black? If they’re white, they have power ergo can be racist. Throughout both “Mixed Blood Stew” by Jewell Parker Rhodes and the story “The Sneetches” by Dr. Seuss, the concept of power plus prejudice is portrayed.
If I had lived during the Holocaust, the hardships would include lack of shelter, starvation, and survival. To start, people struggled to find a safe shelter. The book Milkweed is about a boy who has to change the locations of his shelter to be able to survive. I know that during this time period a lot of people who were jewish were taken to concentration camps were they were forced to work and were treated harshly. Because of this people had to change the location of their shelter to escape getting caught. Additionally, people also had to face the struggles of starvation. Since hitler and his nazis were killing off a lot of people, the people who owned food stores could no longer sell food. This meant that people couldn’t get the same amount
“And that day, the sneetches forgot about who had stars upon thars.” The Sneetches all learned an important lesson on the day Sylvester McMonkey McBean came to their town. If you try to change yourself to be something you’re not, it can end very badly. The Sneetches found that out the hard way. First, the movie stated that the Plain-Belly Sneetches felt inferior to the “better” Star-Belly Sneetches, because they didn’t have stars. The Star-Belly Sneetches would turn away and ignore the Plain-Belly Sneetches. Then, the Star-Belly Sneetches wanted to be different and better than the new Star-Belly Sneetches, so they paid their money to Sylvester McMonkey McBean to be different again. The original Star-Belly Sneetches wanted to feel superior
The Sneetches was a very good show that showed us many valuable lessons in life today. This was a book originally written by Dr. Seuss that was turned into a show. In this show, there were two different kinds of sneetches. One kind of sneetch had stars and the other ones did not. They both learned a valuable lesson. The plain-bellied sneetches were getting tired of the star-bellied sneetches thinking they were better than them. First, the sneetches without stars tried to get stars on their bellies from a guy with a machine. They thought that they were the same now. The star-bellied sneetches didn’t like that because they were the originals and it wasn’t fair that the plain-bellied sneetches had stars now. So the star-bellied sneetches got their
Can you imagine seeing the glow of a blazing fire killing thousands of your people trying to set you free? Or having to crawl through a small hole to get food for you starving family. Marijuana has always been a controversial topic. The use of marijuana has been a major debate in the government because the government has never had any control over it. However, the state of California in recent times has been less harsh on marijuana by passing laws that allow recreational use across the state of California. With this in mind, the city of Desert of Hot Springs lately has allowed opportunities for people to grow and sell marijuana for medicinal and recreational purposes as long as they get permits from the city. As a result, businesses that want to cultivate marijuana have to follow regulations that have been set by the city to insure
Spotted knapweed is a growing concern throughout the state of Montana (MT). (See Attachment 4). Spotted knapweed is native to the grasslands of central Europe and east to central Russia, Caucasia and western Siberia (Duncan, et al., 2011). It was introduced to North America from Eurasia as a contaminant in
As plants aren’t, by their nature, very mobile they have developed a variety of ways of protecting themselves from all things herbivorous. Many have evolved spikes, stings and even just an unpleasant taste. However, many went down the route of the ultimate deterrent – being so poisonous that anything eating them was unlikely to ever do so again.
“Those stars weren't so big. They were really so small You might think such a thing wouldn't matter at
During this essay I will be analyzing the July, 2009 Knotweed essay by John Roland Stahl. I will addressing the following points; What is the author’s main point, what are the main supporting arguments, are the supporting arguments valid, why or why not, is it a strong argument. Stahl’s main point in his essay is knotweed: it would be better to make paper than cutting down trees and that using knotweed for paper would be a better way to control its overgrowth than, “ breeding a population of super vampire insects that will attach themselves to the knotweed and gradually suck out the plant’s juices” (Stahl, 2009) He has multiple supporting arguments.
The Sneetches is one of the children's book stories written by the late Theodor Seuss Geisel's better known as Dr. Suess. It is about two creatures, separated by the stars on their bellies. The Sneetches with the star-belly were the best, and looked down upon the Sneetches without star belly. However, Sneetches without the principals (stars), were the plain-belly Sneetches and were forbidden from linking up with the star-belly Sneetches which kept them in a dejected and oppressed manner.

The phrase "When the United States catches a cold, Latin America sneezes", is related to the economic relationship between United States and Latin America. When the United States economy changes it effects more than just Latin America but almost the rest of the world sneezes. Many other countries rely on the United States to be a lead in wealth and resources. The United States executes trading, exports and imports, with many other countries. If they suffer an economic decline, less trading will occur, it then effects these other countries. When the countries stop trading, they stop producing thus resulting in high unemployment rates, lower GDP, and an economic decline for many other countries as well. Brazil is one of the United States largest
The project goal was for school aged children to not get a cold or the flu during this year’s flu season at school. The project went well, and should decrease the spread of the cold and flu at fairmeadows elementary school. The first objective was, the children will demonstrate proper cough and sneeze etiquette to the the teachers at school to show them how to cough and sneeze into their elbow effectively 5 times at the end of the presentation. This goal was achieved by the entire group when playing the game Simon says. I used a rubric to evaluate if the children understood what to do when they coughed or sneezed. The children properly displayed coughing and sneezing into their elbow during the game on their first or second time. The second
There is a lady who studies sneezes and how the snot drops can cause diseases. Her name is Lydia Bourouiba. She is one of the world's top experts on sneezes and coughs. She uses special cameras and lighting to look at all the germs and mucus that flies out. One simple sneeze can send thousands of tiny snot particles flying.
