“C’mon in the sound stage, I’ve got something to tell you guys (“Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs”).” Walt Disney proceeded to tell the animators his story of Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, which left them all teary eyed. It was then decided that Snow White would be their first feature. Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs is one of the most successful movies in history (“Disney, Walt, World Book, Inc.”). Previously, it was rumored that Disney would be shutting down his studio, as many others did during the Great Depression, instead he did the opposite and brought Snow White into it’s making (Doyle). Disney’s first estimated production cost was severely low, but he was later on granted a higher budget as his producer thought it would be a hit (“Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs”). The film was referred to as “Disney’s Folly …show more content…
The popularity of Snow White allowed the film to be chosen as the #1 animated film of all time in “America’s 10 Greatest Films in 10 Classic Genres” (“Disney Releases Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs”). At the time, many wouldn’t “sit still for an hour and a half to watch a cartoon”, but it opened many opportunities for animated films (Schochet). Animation wasn’t as big of a business as live-action films were, but Snow White helped prove that animated movies could establish a business of their own. The length of animated films would not be limited down to around 15-30 minutes anymore (Doyle). Snow White was able to transform the animation industry within just a few years of it’s release. The film also helped many people find joy during the Great Depression. Snow White was considered “...a gateway to a practically unlimited future (Doyle).” Walt put all of his time and effort into the production of Snow White, a film that helped expand the world of animation and took the world by
Movies let a little light into many peoples lives. People were beyond thrilled to see the new technology the 1930s had to offer. Many would pay about twenty five cents to attend the movies. The nation quickly expanded with many movie theaters, and it topped over the amount of banks and doubled the amount of hotels. One movie people would pay to see, was the first disney princess movie in color made in 1937, known as “Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs” which was made during the Great Depression. The movie “Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs” is about a young princess, who's beauty and kind
Although Snow White isn’t anything remarkable with today’s computer-generated graphics, the hand-drawn film was groundbreaking at the time. The high profit from Snow White inspired Disney to relocate and expand his studio in order to facilitate all of his animation needs (Wingert). This upcoming state-of-the-art studio would open up several new opportunities for the Disney Company.
As a matter of fact, Walt Disney had a tremendous influence on mass media! He influenced the media to expand their business deals and resources. The release of his very successful movie Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs led the film to become the most successful motion picture! “The film became the most successful motion picture in 1938 and earned over $8 million on its initial release.” (“Walt Disney”) Likewise, the release of the film encouraged the media to use different special effects and record better frames. Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs was the first American film to be made in color, so it influenced the media to use the Technicolor process for their upcoming movies. “Snow White, the first animated feature in America made in Technicolor, was released in February 1938…” (“Walt Disney”) In the movie there is also sound. The sound, yet again caused the sensation to make a soundtrack.
Snow White is a fairy-tale known by many generations; it is a beloved Disney movie, and a princess favoured by many kids. But did you know the fairy-tale was made to teach young children, especially little girls, their duties in life? It also values beauty over knowledge, portrays women to be naive and incompetent, and assumes that women cannot understand anything other than common household chores. Throughout this criticism, I will be using the feminist lens to analyze the fairy-tale, Snow White, through the perspective of a feminist.
Snow White is a story that can be viewed by from many different viewpoints, with different mindsets. It is clear though, while examining "Snow White" from an archetypal perspective, that the story is heavily influenced by several archetypal aspects, the most evident ones are: The use of the "lucky" numbers (3 & 7), the use of associated colours (white, black, & red), and the correlation between seasons.

Many people believe that the movies they watched as a child, such as Sleeping Beauty, Snow White, and Cinderella, were stories that were made up and told by Walt Disney himself; however, these movies were actually based off of stories that were told hundreds of years earlier and in many different civilizations all across the globe. Parallel stories are “[...] generally a product of oral history, passed down from generation to generation” (Bierlein 271). Many of the versions of Snow White were not initially written down, but spread by word of mouth; these were then recorded by various people through the years. Parallel stories to the well-known version of Snow White date all the way back to 1634. Before the movie Snow White and the Seven Dwarves
Snow White and the Huntsman is an adaptation of the Grimm fairy tale Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs. However the focus is not Snow White and her interaction with the seven dwarfs, much like the popular Disney portrayal of the fairytale that viewers have come to know. This version of the fairytale is dark and sinister, placing an emphasis on the evil Queen’s agenda and the Huntsman who is sent to hunt down Snow White. This new action-packed spin on the fairytale includes large battles and fight scenes, while keeping many elements from the original tale like the poison apple and “mirror, mirror on the wall”. The film is directed by Rupert Sanders and features a star-studded cast that includes, Academy
The story of “Snow White” depicts what a beautiful girl has to endure from her evil stepmother, whose vanity and cruelty know no boundaries, is there more to the story though? The Brothers Grimm give us clues here and there, about how they both have similarities. Little by little, Snow White’s character can be seen changing from the pure character at the beginning of the story, to someone that if you look close resembles the evil Queen by the end of the story. Snow White’s and the evil stepmother both share some common traits such as vanity, envy, and at times no remorse among others; in which Snow White can be compared to the Queen.
Over the years, Snow White’s story has been told in numerous different versions then its original version in 1812 by the Grimm Brothers. The main basis of the story has remained the same. Only a few minor tweaks to the story have changed. The three versions of the story that are going to be analyzed are the original story “Little Snow White” by the Brothers Grimm, “Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs” by Disney, and “Mirror, Mirror” by Disney also. They each were created in very different times and the original story has changed over the years to appeal to the audience of that time. No matter how many versions there are Snow White is considered, one of the most cherished fairy tales of all time. They each use different methods to get their
After losing everything, Walt and Ubbe decided to create another cartoon character now known as Mickey. After creating a series of short cartoons Mickey became the world’s most popular cartoon character in the 1930s. Walt created his first full-length animated musical feature in the production of “Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs” which exceeded over $1,400,000 in profit (IMDb, 2010). Throughout 1937-1947 he continued to create full-length movies such as “Pinocchio”, “Fantasia”, “Dumbo”, and “Bambi”. Following his cartoon success, Walt

Walt Disney had to make changes in the details and the plot of the original Snow White tale published by the German Grimm Brothers in Grimms’ Fairy Tales to fit American society’s interests. These interests during 1930s America that influenced Disney’s decision to change the tale included: the changing role of women in society, the people’s concept of romance, and popular political systems.
Snow white is an orthodox animation in its narrative that follows the conceptions of realism. Paul Wells that “the kind of film which seems to be the most accurately represent reality is the kind of film that attempts to rid itself of obvious cinematic conventions in the prioritization of recording the people, objects, environments and events which characterise the common understating of lived experience.” The film follow this conception accordingly. The film follows the traditional 3 Act Structure with a beginning, middle, climax and resolution. In the beginning, snow white is introduced as the powerless princess who is oppressed by her evil step
Walt believed the true revenue lay with full-length feature films. In 1937 Walt Disney and his studio created the world’s first full-length, full-color animated feature, Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs. This was the highest-grossing animated movie of all time, even out grossing animated films until the year 2000 (Exhibit 7). Disney Brothers Studio attempted to increase its market share so cleverly in the fact that they began a signature trend of stocking shelves with products the day of the film’s release in huge retail stores such as Sears and Woolworth’s.
