They had a social gospel which responded to problems in industrial society which fought for justice and an end to poverty. Women were educated and some even went to college. We know most women were teachers or nurses. They had reforming cities that had safe house's that were in poor neighborhoods and they could stay in these houses to learn about the area, have meetings and get free health care. They also had hull houses which were the second owned resident the government passed to better construction safety laws. There was an antibiotic saloon league that made a lot of kids and the wives go into poverty because of men drinking too much. They had democratizing trends that were initiated the referendum which allowed citizens control over the
A cultural value that is important and must be taken to account is Direct vs. Indirect. I say this because how you communicate with some will greatly affect how much they retain of listen to. In this matter, Drew has expressed that he feels Christians are aggressive and history has shown their moral compass lacks right vs wrong and good and bad. Knowing this I would want to work around being direct and indirect when communicating with him. I would never want to be to direct and push him away nor would I want to be so indirect that it seems as if I’m walking on egg shells. In the end, how I communicate to him will greatly impact if he listens or shuts me out.
The main reason that I am sold on this Baptist thing is because our statement of beliefs is not a creed or confession that tries to express all of the things that southern Baptist believe but is instead broad statement that hits the main points. This is important to me because unlike some other mainline denominations Baptists do not base the whole organization around a certain theological system. Because of this the Southern Baptists allow for a minister to change his view as he grows, reads, and learns without having to leave the denomination.
One of the fundamental rights in the U.S. constitution is guaranteed to all citizens in the first amendment. We have the right to practice any religion of our choosing, including the practice of no religion at all. The framers of the constitution even put the freedom of religion before our rights to free speech and free press (Haiman). This constitutional right allows America’s blend of naturalists, pantheists, theists, and spiritualists to practice their beliefs without interference from the government. This collection of religions adds to our diverse culture and creates an atmosphere of individuality without persecution. The Christian worldview possesses very unique qualities that separate it from the others. Christians believe that only one God exists (Timothy 2:5) and that he created mankind in his own image (Genesis 1:27). God then sent his son Jesus to die for the original sin of man and to allows us to ask forgiveness for our sins. Christian values are built off the teachings of the holy bible and are absolute with the teachings of God. In order to analyze the Christian worldview and actively practice it without persecution one must investigate the belief in God and his son Jesus, understand human nature, and accept restoration and redemption.
A worldview is made from a set of assumptions created by an individual or a group of people forming a belief system that guides them in how they perceive reality to be in this world. Belief systems are often created by those before us which; are then instilled into future generations. In today’s world there are many different types of belief systems being taught, however; “there are three basic worldviews that most belief systems fall into which are; Atheism, Pantheism and Theism.” (GCU Lecture 1, 2015) Christianity holds a Theism worldview and is the “largest religion in America with; eighty-three percent of Americans claiming to be Christians”. (Analysis & Langer, 2016 ) A Christian worldview revolves around the teachings from the Old and New Testament in the Bible which; are referred to as Gospels known as the word of God since; “all scripture is God breathed”. (2 Timothy 3:16) The essentials of the Gospel are made up of God, humanity, Jesus and restoration and in analyzing Christianity, then reflecting on my own worldview I will conclude with my final thoughts on the Gospel essentials.
Black churches today are becoming more diverse, and a great place to worship for all people regardless of ethnicity. However, for some people of Caucasian decent it can still be confusing understanding the traditions of the Black church. Here is a brief guide to non-African Americans understand the church.
The Social Gospel is the idea of social problems being looked and fixed with a Christian point of view. The Gospel will always stay the same and we should refer the Social Gospel as living out the Gospel. The goal of the Social Gospel Movement was to tie salvation and good work together. They thought people should live the life of a Jesus Christ. Classes, counseling, job training and libraries were provided by churches to act according to the Social Gospel. The origins and issues of the Social Gospel Movement, how the Social Gospel related to a Progressive Era, the work of Walter Rauschenbusch, and how Social Gospel relates to the Gospel will be covered in this essay.
Mathews Gospel helps me understand what I need to do and overcome during Lent. As we continue through this Lenten season, we can grow in our faith and trust in God by following Jesus' example while he was in the desert. During Lent, we can grow closer to God by understanding Jesus' love and by doing a little extra to grow in love with God.
Martin Luther, born into the Catholic Church in 1483, is considered to be the father of Protestantism. 1 Luther was a devout man who dedicated himself to the study of the bible; in addition to being a Professor of Biblical Studies at the University of Wittenberg, he was also a priest and a monk. He spent a lot of his time focusing on what one could do to earn eternal salvation as it was written about in the Bible. This was especially troubling to him given the actions of his colleagues at the University of Wittenberg and his fellow priests and monks. He felt the actions of many of those in the Church that he loved were both immoral and corrupt, and especially in the midst of his own struggles with the idea of salvation, these actions troubled him deeply. 2
The Coronation Gospel created in the 800 in the Frankish empire is an object looks incredibly impressive when it is seen at the Kumsthistorishches Museum in Vienna. The Gospel’s cover is made up of gold leaf covered with semi-precious stones. If you were do look at it’s interior it has a wide range of golden illumination and text. The Coronation Gospels is beautiful treasure on the surface. But what the gospel represents is more impressive then mere appearances. The Coronation Gospel represents the large scale cultural project that was happening underneath Charlemagne’s rule. This project is often referred to as the Carolingian renaissance. Carolingian renaissance is defined as a cultural movement that sought to be a “rebirth” of roman and ancient cultural styles. This included changes within art, architecture
The Progression from spirituals to “Black” Gospel Music Many people would refer to gospel music as religious songs or songs regarding to life as a Christian. Gospel music varies, which gives an alternative to Christian music with a mix of secular music. With it being many styles of Christian music, the performance, the lyrics, instruments and the formation, gives gospel music different meanings. To most, gospel is simply thanks and praise and worship to the Lord.

Gospel Music versus Inspirational Music Are they the same or different? “When the Saints go Marching in” is one of the first gospel songs that I remember singing a solo in church. I was around nine or ten years old. From a very early time in my life, gospel music has been a huge part of my life. I prefer gospel music over inspirational music because gospel music speaks to my soul plus it is the root of who I am today.
Do you ever feel like you have no one to comfort you? No one that cares which you could talk to? Come to Jesus, and have your burden lifted while it flies away. Jesus is the spirit that embraces your soul, him whom we cannot see, but yet we still acknowledge that he is there. He’s the friend who you can always trust, the parent that comforts you, the teacher that guides you, the song that sings to you, and the joy that makes you laugh. The word that is read to you, and the heartbeat, which your heart beats. To teenagers whom are losing faith, Christ can seem a million miles away or not here at all. Now and then, it may feel like endless nights of praying with no one to hear, but that is not true. Because he is not visible,
Music is an important aspect of every society. Music can tell stories, release emotions, build bridges and break down barriers, but above all music is entertaining. There are various forms of music but not many have as rich a history as gospel music. The importance of gospel music has been relevant in American music for more than a century and its importance to society is still relevant to this day (See Appendix A). Gospel music helped slaves escape to freedom and paved the way for other styles of music. It promotes a spirit of hope and provided an outlet to worship God. So how exactly has Gospel music impacted today’s society?
The early church had lots of characteristics. According to Acts 2:42-47, the church was teaching, worshipping, communal, selfless, and growing. This empowered people to join the apostles in their spiritual journey. The modern church still is all these things, but also an institution, a herald, a sacrament, body of christ, servant, and community of disciples. All of these characteristics are important to the church as a whole.
