Teachers mention the “real world” during class, but sometimes they fail to see that their students do live in the real world. They have their own lives and go through a diverse amount of experiences. When they mention the real world as if students did not live in the real world yet, it invalidates the experiences they have on a daily basis. A classroom can be seen as a safe nurturing space where students can learn, but sometimes a classroom might not do that for students, especially because of the curriculum and what it fails to address or what it addresses poorly. Now when I think about it how could it not? Social justice takes a big part of my life and experiences. Last year at around this time I had to write an essay that had to include some sort of human rights issue. When writing I take on big topics; social justice topics are anything but simple. Like with many of the essays I have written before in school, I wrote all of my ideas down on paper using an organizational chart. Organizing the chart did not pose many challenges because I already knew what I wanted to write during the introduction of the project. Almost every time I get the opportunity to write about social justice I do it because I can educate myself and others while speaking up about significant topics. The most difficult thing about writing this essay presented itself when I needed sources to back up the claims I already knew were true because I experience them first hand. My writing usually focuses on racial aspects of social justice, but I make sure to include intersectionality because of their importance and relevancy. I wrote Making America White Again during the U. S election, usually when terrible rhetoric becomes even more readily available. I tackled the topic of immigration, more specifically the Mexican immigrant experience. As a Mexican immigrant myself, I see how much the portrayal of Mexican immigrants, and even Mexican people in general lacks accuracy. Just like with many other minority groups,
