In today's modern time teenager spend most of their day on social media, posting photos of what they are doing or what they are eating say like if they went on a date. social media seems to run today's society, thus it also takes most of our time and attention. It has been shown that teenagers have built and addiction to social media as if it was a drug addiction. I believe teenagers should have a limitation so they could be more active and not be lazy and be at home all day.
I believe we should have limitations on using the internet because some people become addicted to the internet, whether they are on their phones or their video game consoles. by having limits it would help many individuals become more social to the society. The outcome for teenagers using the internet is that some don't do their homework, due to them being eager to use their phone. The internet can become a dangerous place when it is used in the wrong hands. In addition using any electronic device for too long could potentially bring some health problem, for example, we could lose our eyesight.
As teenagers use the internet as a daily thing they are at risk every second, they are on social media with lots of strangers, which is why teenagers should be very aware. the internet consist of many things, the internet has many dangerous things that could be easily reached. some teenagers are at risk of being cyberbullied on social media, some
The article, “What Adolescents Miss When We Let Them Grow up in Cyberspace,” written by Brent Staples discusses negative influences that internet has toward teens. The author elaborates that teens are far more comfortable with online conversations. Social Media has high expectations to how a teen should act or look. Media emotionally scars teens, demanding them to have clear skin and skinny body. The more people that are connected to their phones, higher the chance of losing relationships. The internet has left many teens with unreal social skills. Real life experiences such as law, teens are not knowledgeable. Teenagers miss out on life experiences that can help them grow into adulthood.
Should teens be limited to the amount of technology that’s exposed? We’ve all been or are going to be a teenager. There is no way to avoid it. Leisure has changed over time. The definition of leisure to any adult would be playing with friends in the street, doing some homework or maybe even working at a job. Today, it consists of texting on iphones/blackberries, watching T.V or going on social networks. Teens nowadays have Call of Duty, Jersey Shore, iPad and Facebook. It seems today that any teenager would agree that they can’t live without one thing: technology. Is technology straining ones ability to learn? Are our priorities straight? Scientists have been exploring this topic to help our society for a number amount of years already.
Social media has been a topic of debate for years. Some people are strongly against any use of it while others like the instant connection it provides. A major concern over social media is the lasting effects it has on teenagers. Social media can affect teenagers through many ways including things like their self-esteem. Cyberbullying is a raging topic of discussion centered around teens social media use. It can also effect their people skills and create a lack of community involvement. Some parents think that watching what their children do on social media is an invasion of privacy but is your concern for their privacy greater than your concern for their safety? Social media poses a great danger to today’s children. It can affect many aspects of their lives.
Utilizing social media has been shown to enhance communication, social interaction, and sharpen technical skills of teenagers. Benefits to teens of social media allow them to socialize with friends, make new friend, and even help each other on group projects or homework. Studies indicate that over 20% of teenagers log onto social media sites over 10 times in one day. A con in social media is that its has caused cyberbullying and online hate. Studies have shown that online harassment is no more common than offline harassment. Another con in social media is that sexting has increased 20% in teens. These teens have indicated that they have posted nude or semi nude photos of themselves. Teens do not realize the risk
Social Media Nowadays it is very unlikely to find a teenager that does not use social media. Social media is a way for young adults to keep in touch with their peers. Many teendagers do not use social media to harm their well-being, but some risky kids might.
In the article, It’s Complicated: The Social Lives of Networked Teens, the author Danah Boyd states that “trapped by helicopter parents and desperate to carve out a space of their own, teens need a place to make mistakes”. Teens should be allowed to go online and go on social media without their parents freaking out. Yes, there are dangers to going online as there are dangers to everything. There is technology everywhere, teens can go online wherever and whenever they want, it's inevitable. Teens access to the internet and to going online is a great resource and is very helpful, so why try and take that away?
Technology has caused too many teenagers to spend number amounts of their time on social media sites. Spending too much time of your cell phone causes you to miss out on opportunities.
A small portion of the teenage population actually use the internet for educational or informational purposes. A larger part uses internet for entertainment and gossip. Entertainment is not necessarily a bad thing, but when someone is constantly on it and not paying attention to the outside world things can get chaotic. If a teenager has a test in school and instead of studying they watch TV or play on their phone there is a chance that person is going to fail instead of pass. Teenagers the main group of society that is always on some type of device that uses wifi or the internet. Since teenagers will often have summer jobs, they are probably going to get on
All in all, teens should be able to use the internet for however long they want because you learn really important skills and things like not being racist. Teens nowadays use the internet a lot and should be able to use it without any
Social media is causing teenagers to be negatively influenced. This is an issue, because teenagers are extremely impressionable and social media is negatively impacting their lives each day whether they are conscious of this or not. One anonymous author who wrote the article, “Teen’s Use of Social Media: Positive or Negative?” states, “90 percent of teens have used social media” (Teens’ Use of Social Media). In this statement, it is clear that a large majority of teenagers have already been exposed to some type of social media. Since teenagers learn from direct observation and experience, it is a huge problem when they witness things on social media that concern sexist, racist, or homophobic content. Many teenagers even say that they have an addiction to social media. Teens who have had bad experiences online or who do not use social media on a regular basis said that they have a stronger urge to stay away from the internet. Even though there are many negatives to social media there are some positives as well. NickMcGillivray who is affiliated with the website, TurboFuture wrote the article, “What Are the Effects of Social Media on Youth.” In his article, he states, “There are many positive aspects, but there are equally as many dangers that come with the use of sites such as Facebook, Twitter, Linkedin, Pinterest, Google +, Tumblr, Instagram, gaming sites, and blogs” (McGillivray). In this statement, he makes it clear, that social media has both positives and negatives. One positive of social media that impacts teenager’s lives would be, how they are able to communicate with their teachers and other classmates at any time. This makes it easier for
There are a lot of concerns with younger adolescents using social media. To begin, there are a lot of anonymous users that disguise themselves online to predatory towards younger girls. A famous television show named: How to Catch a Predator, have been evidence towards this situation. Younger girls can even boys could be exposed to unwanted sexual advances which could be mentally detrimental. Thus connecting to how younger adolescents shouldn’t be able to have social media accounts. Next, privacy settings on certain social media accounts could be compromised and information could be leaked to the public eye. There have been studies that have stated that many people who do have social media accounts with safety settings have a feeling of being safe but not as safe as they thought they would be (E. Warren, personal communication, May 24, 2017).
With the internet being implemented into the daily lives of a majority of the population, it’s easy to understand why over usage would be presented as a problem. As Einstein once said “I fear the day that technology will surpass our human interaction. The world will have a generation of idiots.” The world has become so invested in new technology that times of old are just a memory. No longer exploring what the world has the offer, people stay isolated in their homes further straying away from outside interaction. In the following excerpt of Dr. David N. Greenfield’s book “The Net Effect: Internet Addiction and Compulsive Internet Use” it further discusses the statistical and psychological
This is a dangerous way of thinking because of the large amount of time that teenagers spend browsing through social media. Teenagers willingly put their safety at risk when they choose to spend countless hours on social media because they care more about interaction with their peers.
The world around uses too much internet. Teens are way too involved in the cell phones and electronics. If there was a cut back and restriction people could focus in school and be more efficient. There is not anything wrong with technology, but as a whole it has become a problem. Technology makes teens want things more quicker and fast. The
Becoming a teenger is a life changing experience. Between the teenage years from 13-18 years old, teens have seen problems on social media. Cyberbullying been such a huge impact that never seems to stop. Cyberbullies continues harassing victims which have caused severe risks for them. These risks include suicide, depression, loneliness, etc. Sometimes it’s hard to figure out if the cyberbullies are real or not, some can be anonymous.
