Thanks for your reply. With regards to social media accounts, since it is a small business I would probably have a Facebook page for promoting sales and to show what is happening in the store. A website is a great idea too, it would provide a place to show connections and what the store supports. Lastly, I could see the store having an instagram account to show off the business’s personality while providing quick information on deals or promotions.

Over the past few months, but especially in recent days with the inauguration of president elect Donald J. Trump rapidly approaching, many of us students have begun to question our safety and our leadership’s concern for our safety on this campus, as have our families back home. When individuals no longer feel a sense of personal safety, academics and academic performance can no longer be a priority. Discrimination based on bias can escalate beyond rhetoric and into acts of violence. History has proven to be a solid reference.

While growing up I was enrolled in three different schools during High School. Freshman year I was enrolled in Lockhart, TX. I made some really good friends there. Sophomore Year my family and I moved back to Yoakum, TX. I was pretty much raised in Yoakum I have friends from kindergarten in that town. My godson lives in Yoakum. Before the end of Sophomore year, we moved to good ole Huntsville, TX. My fiancé and his family are from towns surrounding Huntsville. If it were not for social media, like Facebook, I would not be able to keep up with half the people I know.

There was this one story that I read that about a person who was new to the time and adopted a dog. There was a two-week trial and she was having troubles with the dog. A couple days before she was going to return the dog she remembered the dog came with some stuff. There was a letter from the previous owner saying he is being deployed and if she is reading this he is dead. In my point of view, I think the most important point the author, Matthew Yeomans, tried to raise and educate the readers is that social media is not just a platform for people to communicate, establish relationships and share their social life, it is also a useful tool to improve the crisis management and assist the planning and preparation for future disasters/catastrophes.

I almost never watched TV, and often only played video games twice a week for a couple hours each time. I listened to the radio for about half an hour every day as I drove to and from school. I read for maybe an hour a day and spent no more than 45 minutes on social media daily. I was part of the Pew Research Center study’s 56% of teens who went on social media multiple times a day. Comparing the two, I can see that I used more media when I was 17 and 18. I clearly spent more time on computers, a bit more time listening to the radio, more time playing video games, and less time watching TV. The best methods of communicating with this public are through universal marketing materials, including brochures, pamphlets and flyers. Teachers are also easily accessible through email and phone. To continue growing a social presence, OCLRE should maintain communication through social networking sites, such as Facebook, to stay connected with teachers and students as they prepare for OCLRE competitions. Including photos and videos of students in class or at practice will generate interest and excitement among competing and noncompeting schools, new educators and volunteers.

Bill Nye hits the hammer on head with that quote because social media has become this generations way of communicating. Don’t get me wrong the mass media has advanced our society and knowledge tenfold, but is what we’re reading in these tweets or magazines actually hurting our indelicacy? I took two articles with the hot topic of smoking marijuana in society, economic market, and legalization nationally. One article was from CNN (mass media) and the other was from a scholarly web page. The articles by Alexandra Sifferlin and the Yale Rsearch team both circled around the idea of marijuana, but both have completely different writing styles, purpose, audience, and approach.

The mass media I used the most this past weekend was Snapchat. The reason I used snapchat the most is because I prefer to communicate and talk to my friends on snapchat. The media I did not use as much was Netflix. I didn’t feel the need to watch movies or a certain show. And also because I know if I watch a show or 2 on their I will start to binge watch the whole entire show so I stop myself from spending my day only on Netflix.

I have always thought of myself as a mild user of media outlets. Over the years, I have found my usual circle of media that pertains to what I desire to get out from the usage. I am not relatively a social media junkie, but I do cater to the apps Instagram, Snapchat and Facebook to stay connected with others, Soundcloud to listen to music, and the “Today” tab standard on iPhone’s to check weather, stocks, and current events. I find these media outlets useful because they are all accessible on one single device, making it easy to access quickly and efficiently. I rarely pick up a newspaper, listen to the radio, watch the news, or access other social media apps because I simply feel that I am achieving everything I would like to know or do through what I am used to. For this assignment, I will be using Tumblr, the radio, and the Papers app. I am excited to have eye opening experience that helps me understand other media and why people would use it.

On the weekday, September 8th, I had no plans other than to go to my 11:00 a.m. class and to make the hour-long drive to go to my home town later that night. I had no middle of the day plans, so I spent my day relaxing and watching internet shows on Netflix. Later, I took some time to text my stepfather, because my car broke down. Once I got my car mobile, I sang along to the radio while I drove home. A week later, September 17th on a weekend day, I used the same types of media again. I spent a few hours watching Netflix, until I became motivated to study for the exams I had to take the next day. Then I studied for the rest of the day, using google to help me define and look up information. Late that night I song along to the radio while I shower and decided to keep it playing as I fell asleep.
