The idea of leadership and what qualifies some individuals as leaders is often shadowed by the harrowing misconceptions of its false reality. Yet, these misconceptions are taught and suggested so often in society that we all have come to believe them… Leaders are born; Leaders are charismatic; Leaders don’t work, they delegate; Leadership is an ability only given to a few; Leadership is about power, prestige, and status… Those are just a few of the many. Despite, the backlash of the misconceptions most leaders face, they are able rise above and find a style that works best for them and their followers. Hortense Soulier, the Earned Media Strategist for Mindgruve, a social media and marketing company in San Diego is a classic example of a leader who has come to find her own style. Soulier, has been a vital asset to the Mindgruve team for just over 3 years, but it wasn’t until the last six months that she has taken on a leadership position within the company. At Mindgruve, Soulier leads her team in content marketing, social media, and search engine optimization. In spite of Soulier’s leadership title, when we asked if she considered herself a leader she said because she is so new to the position she doesn’t quite consider herself one yet, but that she adjusting to her new role and the greater impact she is having. Like any new leader Soulier is adjusting and familiarizing herself with her new leadership role and in doing so she is finding her style and what works best for her
