In this era of internet marketers, Social Media (blogs, social networks, content communities, wiki 's and podcasts), have largely changed the face of marketing and media. This involves opinion makers, journalists, seasoned practitioners and the audience who interacts with one another on a regular basis. (Fernando 2007). This high level of interaction and involvement is devoid in the traditional media and the marketing field as well. Modern society is full of many influences that trigger one’s identity online. Social networks have played a large roll in guiding users to maintain, create or enhance their social presence both online and in real time. There are many different social networks that enable users to communicate and connect based on similarities, differences and many other factors. The social network theory explains these connections as ties, and individual users as nodes. The more ties, or relationships, online that you have the more social capital you can accumulate. Social capital can come in the form of likes, shares, posts, photos, and anything that you can gain from social media applications. Social connection websites, multimedia sharing websites and professional social networks assist in the construction of users identities through social media sites like Facebook, YouTube and LinkedIn. With these identities individuals are able to successfully interact within such social networks in ways in which have changed social statuses, impacted the overall health of individuals and created new opportunities for users.
Lachapelle (2011) explains, “The use of social media and social networking has become a significant force in political organizing, social interaction, and economic development. A growing body of literature now describes the use of social media as a tool in areas such as political action, democracy promotion, business marketing, and public relations management. The use of social media specifically in the field of community and economic development has also recently begun to receive scholarly attention. There is strong evidence to suggest that social networks can improve socioeconomic well-being of communities. For example, Eagle, Macy, & Claxton (2010) found the structure of social networks and related diversity of individuals‟ relationships is strongly correlated with the economic development of communities” (Para, 1, 2, & 3). This essay will discuss possible solutions that could help communities provide greater access to broadband internet, why citizens need internet access, and how it would enhance community development, Also, what government services could be transmitted to citizens through the Internet, and last, how social networking sites are an effective mechanism for communities to link citizens and encourage community development.
Have you ever heard of the contagious disease called social networking. Once you get a glimpse of any of the social media websites, you’re pretty much creating a custom made trashcan to throw your education in, a fire to burn your job into ashes, and the list goes on. Social networking is used in a way where students’ education is second from their list next to staying updated in friends, family, and even strangers’ life. With these habits developed, they bring it into their jobs like Mcdonalds or Burger King, if they’re lucky to get a job there. Now these days, all I hear from people around me talking about the most ridiculous news ever. When I hear these stories, I ask myself, “What happened to spending time on homework and studying or doing the job that was assigned to them? They pretty much said they did 24 hours worth of research on rumors about a person on social networking sites. Why?” It 's available around the world from places from the bathroom to the beach, but people are forgetting to look at how social media is changing and shaping their life in a dangerous way. I believe social networking is not beneficial and is used around the world for the wrongest reasons; hence the most reliable choice to make is to stay away or not use it at all.
The Internet has become an integral part of life and social media continues to be one of the most popular communication platforms. Social networks are defined as member-based websites and applications that allow users to communicate with others or find others who share similar interests to their own (Lecture two, 2016). The introduction of Web 2.0 has caused a revolution in social networking, with the use of social networking sites (SNSs) becoming an everyday practice in today’s Western society (Lecture two, 2016). Social media sites such as Facebook and Twitter have prompted debates regarding the advantages and disadvantages of these sites, and the positive or negative consequences for users (Chan & Saqib, 2015). Advantages of social networking include the ability to connect with others in a convenient and accessible manner. Users are able share their experiences, opinions and ideas with users who share similar or dissimilar viewpoints, as well keep users aware and informed of global news and events. Social networking provides a platform for social commerce by allowing businesses to grow through instant communication and collaboration between workers, consumers and stakeholders. However, there are also many disadvantages associated with social networking’ as individuals are exposed to hacking, fraud, stalking and identity theft from online predators. While cyber bullying is a common occurrence affecting an individual’s psychological, behavioural and emotional well-being
We talked briefly about the person I had became and that she had seen both of my children be born. I asked her if I would ever see her again and she told me she always heard me talk to her. We embraced as I started to cry and I told her I never wanted to wake up and be with-out her. At that moment I was startled back to reality by a noise in the house. I woke up with real tears already flowing down my face. It was a rush of emotions. But a calmness came over me and I realized that all things are connected in time and space at a cellular level and that we can influence things around us by what we put out all the way down to an energetic level. I knew that I wanted to commit myself to not only raising well mannered, respectful young citizens which I had already done for the first six years of motherhood but I wanted to also shelter them from all the extra stuff society was pushing on kids younger and younger such as social networking and the over-sexualization of our youth. I could almost hear my many times Great Grandfather Reverend Romanus Teller telling me that there was an issue with mainstream entertainment today. And I just wanted to make my Great Grandmother proud. Over the next few weeks I decided that my improvements would be to shelter my children from modern things that could perverse their minds to mature at a faster rate for one. And secondly to keep them free of unnecessary chemicals. I thought of all my ancestors I had researched, and how they had to do things
