The people of the Black Lives Matter Movement had taken what was suppose to be a nonviolent walk, into an irrational protest to forcefully get their point across. The amount of African Americans that continuously promote the violent side of protesting and that continue to make the nation only about the lives of them has increased. People need to grasp that the Black Lives Matter Movement are made of people who are irresponsible and who follow.
For the past few years, the deaths of African Americans both innocent and in wrong have been murdered by white police officers. Videos with graphic content swim through social media outlets, it truly is tragic. But, not only are these types of videos are uploaded, but also the reactions of the Black Lives

“Black activist focus on brutality but ignore violent crime in black neighborhoods.” (Black Activists Don’t Ignore Crime) Data shows that “Blacks commit violent at 7 to 10 times the rate whites do.”(7 Statistics You Need to Know about Black-on-Black Crime). News channels, social media, and BLM activists will not hesitate to show the white officers committing sins, but they will falter when people show the data that black groups commit more crimes than any other …show more content…
Gangs such as the Crips and Bloods are majority made up of African Americans. Their rivalry for territory in neighborhoods and past history create tension between the two and can lead to multiple deaths. A reporter stated that, “the Bureau of Justice Statistics show that from 1980 to 2008, blacks were six times more likely than whites to be homicide victims and seven times more likely than whites to commit homicide.” (“What does 'black-on-black crime' actually mean?”). The criminal activity occurring in black neighborhoods is higher than any other race.
The battle in debating whether or not the Black Lives Matter movement is still up for debate. But with the facts that are given, people to need to see that the movement need to fix themselves and their communities, before they can fix a whole
A necessary and common fight for equality has been one that has survived throughout all of man’s existence. Due to recent racial divide and the product of racial profiling, a movement has risen up to combat these common issues. The most recent and most well-covered is the Black Lives Matter Movement. Even though it has been lauded by some media sources and individuals as the next great movement to champion for civil rights, the Black Lives Matter movement is not the same as the African-American Civil Rights Movement of the 1960s nor is it likely to be as successful. If the Black Lives Matter Movement continues with discrepancies in ideology, lack of clear leadership, and trends of hate, the movement is doomed to fail.
The brutality of the police force has been a long worldwide problem, but especially between the years of 2012-2016. Black people are being unjustly beaten and shot in plain sight for doing nothing while being unarmed. Journal of African American Studies “Blacks are viewed as deserving of harsh treatment in the criminal justice system” (482). “Black males with more “Afrocentric” features may receive longer sentences than blacks with less Afrocentric features like lighter skin and straighter hair”(482). Nowadays it is important to know about the police force. It’s important to know our rights as citizens and be careful around cops. Not everybody is good, but not everybody is bad also. In The New York Amsterdam News 21 people were killed by Chicago police in 2008. Entire families were being attacked. They believe it’s because of their skin color and how they are different. The year of racism started off with the world seeing the police murder of Oscar Grant. “The media have pushed people away from hearing the issue of police brutality, and it has fallen off of the radar screen.”(2) “You can’t give in. They will try to make an example out of you, try to break your spirit!”(2) African Americans say do not trust the cops with anything. “They will ruin you.”(2)
For decades black Americans have been treated as animals, looked at as if they are monsters, and killed like bugs. Actions like Police brutality and racism is what caused Black Lives Matter. The creation of the Black Lives Matter was a response by the black community to give a voice to black Americans affected by the increase of wrongful deaths due to the law enforcements and vigilantes across the country. This has been going on for so long that it seems like we are stuck in the past. For years, even decades black Americans have had to live the struggle of being equal. Even when things are going good and we think we finally have the same rights, something happened to change that. It is time to shed a light on the real purpose of Black Lives Matter and why they are important to today's society.
Social movements are vital to the establishment of our societies, and they way we are governed. Social movements help the less privileged band together to create a stronger voice among a sea of political correctness and unlawfully rule that the public supposedly have to abide by without question. Movements create this new form of platform that, if done successfully, are able to create a worldwide frenzy where people from across all walks of life, including politicians, academics, the less fortunate, the homeless, doctors, etc, are able to come together to create change, or to start to create change on a matter that is close to their hearts. One of these matters that has come up in recent years that has been an ongoing battle for centuries upon centuries is Black Lives Matter (Although named various things throughout time such as black civil rights). Black Lives Matter is a movement that started back in 2012 after George Zimmerman was acquitted for his crime against a 17 year old boy named Trayvon Martin, and Trayvon was then put on trial for his own murder (Garza, A. 2014, p. 1.). This crime was just the tipping point for three women who wanted to see a change in the way black lives were/are treated. Black Lives Matter is one of the most important socio-political movements of our time, and this is why it is an important movement to connect with and understand. Throughout, I will be going through the strategies and the tactics Black Lives Matter advocates and cofounders have
The killings of Mike Brown, Eric Garner, Tamir Rice and Alton Sterling can undoubtedly be attributed to the systemic racism deeply embedded in police forces across the country. Around the country African American communities are oppressed by this racism every single day. Any officer who makes a racist statement should be immediately fired, yet this is not the reality; systemic racism exists in the police force and warrants and overhaul.
Within the past few years, incidents involving many deaths of unarmed African Americans and police officers have been broadcasted across the media. A large portion of these incidents result in protest and advocation against police brutality. There are a wide range of feelings and viewpoints people care to discuss concerning the topic of police brutality. Usually, when an African American person is killed by the hands of a police officer, people tend to explain how police brutality is the cause and culprit. Some people voice how police brutality is a matter that needs to quickly addressed while others believe it doesn 't even exist and therefore is not a cause for concern. Regardless of where you stand on the issue, police brutality is a
Police shootings of African Americans have become frequent events in the US. This racist justice system poses a threat to all African Americans, but also to our society in general, and it's time we do something about it.
The Black Lives Matter movement began in 2013 after George Zimmerman was found not guilty of the murder of 17 year-old Trayvon Martin. About a year after Martin’s death, an 18 year-old unarmed male, Michael Brown, was shot and killed by a white police officer in Ferguson, Missouri. That sparked weeks of protests. Years later, Asians, Latinos, and some whites joined in and realized how big of a problem this was becoming. As the years go by, the BLM Movement will keep growing and will not go
Whether there are homicides, riots, or any other cases of destruction, America has faced problems that we need to solve. A problem that America faces is the Black Lives Matter movement. Does this movement include violence and havoc? Absolutely! Black people who assume that their lives matter instead of anyone else’s are entitled. Not all African Americans are entitled, and there are black people who know that this movement is wrong. Derryck Green, a member of the national advisory council for the National Center is qualified to speak on this subject. He agrees that black lives matter like everyone else, but he thinks it is pathetic how many African Americans turn a peaceful protest to a violent one. This movement is misguided by many citizens in this country. Do you think you
The Black Lives Movement was a creation that happened in 2012 after the prompted death of Trayvon Martin, a young black man, that was racially profiled and stereotyped by an older man named George Zimmerman was shot and killed because he was seen as a threat. The movement was smaller in 2012; however, the emergent of more African Americans being killed over senseless crimes have cause more people to join the organization and promote change and try to rebuild the black community by unitifying black liberation. It’s more than the brutality of Africans Americans it’s about the future as a race in relate to education, the prison system, wage gap,
The Black Lives Matter movement has swept across America. It 's branched out with chapters in over 31 cities and held rallies and boycotts across the United States(Sidner). The Black Lives Matter movement started with the outrage of the death of a young man. It continues to take over headlines and raise awareness on police brutality and inequality. However, the movement has met resistance from the All Lives Matter group. This group thinks that Black Lives Matter is a movement to express hatred towards other races. However, statistics, the views of fellow citizens, and the overall purpose of the Black Lives Matter movement, can prove that the movement wasn 't meant to express hate on other races and that we need to support the movement instead of going against it.
Black lives matter began a rally outcry of the new movement to go against racist police violence it’s brilliant in its clarity. It is more striking when the slogans ability to express so much in so few words is painful it is that it send out a message to be asserted. What began as a little but strong rebellion in St. Louis suburb something exploded into a wildfire that has sweep over the whole country. The movement has people feeling like they can escape and control of the ruling establishment. The police force and the Democrats could not have been able to stop the movement. Politicians and the news media usually they are used to using the same old words and sentences to discuss race and protest without a challenge.
I believe that this is a question that most people ask, when they hear of incidences of police brutality within the black populations. Statistics on police brutality suggests that black people, particularly men, are three times more likely to be killed by the police in the United States in comparison to the white population. Last year there were a number of cases on police brutality against blacks, however, the deaths of Michael Brown, Eric Garner, Walter Scott, and Freddie Gray gained much attention from the media and the Black Lives Matter movement (BBC, 2015). This past week in San Francisco, racists and homophobic texts were discovered among some of the police officers in the San Francisco police department (Williams, 2016). This particular story makes me wonder whether some of these stereotypes against blacks are at times the driving force behind the acts of brutality against black men during arrests. In some cases, the black men are not innocent either, but are there other humane options that can be utilized during these arrests. In some cases, the victims are shot more than ten times, is it really necessary to shoot them this many times when other options can be used? Are the arrests made justifiable, or are they made due to these biases? Overall, this example brings into awareness some of the effects of structural and institutional racism in
The recent shootings of Michael Brown and Brandon Tate have questioned the integrity of our police force, particularly how overwhelmingly white law enforcement officers interact in predominantly black communities. Those with an anti-police agenda would like to suggest that police go around killing citizens with impunity. This claim is untrue and damages the integral relationship that citizens have with their law enforcement officers. Many media outlets, political pundits, and activists want their audience to believe that police are killing citizens at alarming rates. My research and data will show that police are not killing citizens with increasing frequency; rather, it will show that it is citizens that are killing citizens at alarming rates.
This stuck out because though I know the whole goal of this movement is to fight for what is right as well as make a difference to those who seek prosperity, Dr. Taylor makes it clear that not much has changed since then and it is liberation that is intended to make a change. Activist just don’t risk their life to fight for something that they strongly believe in and the movement, black lives matter has been fighting strong for this since the killing of Trayvon Martin.
