Social media has guided us to believe that we need to be connected to others. “…the social media revolution has not made us feel more connected, less lonely, or replete with friends” (Barna Group). Social media has input certain beliefs into the minds of people while also taking away that time that could be spent with friends and family. Social media has allowed people to put on fronts and believe that these are the only means of communication.

In today's time, social media is widely used by most people and most who use it claims that it is beneficial to their everyday lives. Many people argue that social media is bad for others because it is distracting them and causing themselves harm by falling or running into others but that is because they dont pay attention, with the right amount of awareness it is very helpful. For some the only way to stay connected to businesses, familly, friends, and world problems is through places like Facebook and Twitter. Social media is more helpful in more ways than one especially when trying to get communications long distances.

Our society has evolved very much over time. The technology, has impacted it greatly. With technology in our lives, we find ourselves ‘glued’ to our electronics. Now, the question is, what does social media provide us? In Wu’s article, he states, “The devices we use change the way we live much faster than any contest among genes.” Meaning, we rely on these devices to make us happy, and resort to them when we are bored. Similarly, in Castells article, he says, “Media often report that intense use of the Internet increases the risk of isolation, alienation, and withdrawal from society.” However, the article also says that social media has actually “increased sociability, civic engagement, and the intensity of family and friendship relationships, in all cultures.” Answering the question, we actually get something out of using social media. Society today sees technology as a beneficial tool; however, it ultimately damages relationships by distorting the perception of what authentic human contact is. On the other hand, even though social media has a lot of positives, it has negatives as well. Social media can ruin relationships as people may get jealous if they find out their boyfriend or girlfriend is exchanging messages with others. More importantly, it can be a waste of time as people can visit a site to check on thing and end up spending the whole day ‘behind the screen’ and as a result, not doing anything useful with their lives.

Many of Us for the most part has been affected by social media in their daily person to person interaction now days, the texting, email and media account like “Facebook” just to mention one of them ,has been eliminating the phone calls, letter or even deeper, it is affecting our relationship with our families and friends because is more distance .
