Social Norm In Spain

A social norm is defined as the rules of behavior that are considered acceptable in society. Throughout American history, the rules regarding what is considered acceptable behavior has changed tremendously. These behaviors haven’t changed just once or twice, but many times over the span of many years. Social norms can change quite often. There is a tremendous amount of behaviors we do in modern America that would have never been considered acceptable years ago. American society has changed significantly in consideration to social norms. Social norms that have changed excessively throughout American history are being affiliated with the LGBT community, dating, relationships, and premarital sex. So, how have social norms changed in American society?

During the last decades, Madrid has surfaced as the heartbeat of modern business, art, technology, and fashion. Traveling to Spain on a tourist travel will only show me a glimpse of what Spain’s history treasures are, but this program will unveil many aspects of the Spanish culture that are unique and exclusive to the country. In addition, it will be a great opportunity to learn about my own culture a little better. As we already know, Spain conquered a vast majority of what is now the American continent. While in Madrid, and since I will be only a few hours from Seville, Spain; I would love to be able to visit the General Archive of the Indies which holds the records and complete documentation of the historical administration and discoveries made by the Spaniards in the New World during its prominent years in exploration. As a native Guatemalan, it would be fascinating to learn about my own roots from the accounts of the Spaniards who set foot on my country and many of the other American countries that were conquered by Spain. Sometimes, we get a better appreciation of history when it is viewed from both perspectives. It’s not the same to learn history of a country based on the narratives of a textbook, than to be actually experience it from its culture and people. The study abroad program will consist of a total of ninety classroom hours of interaction with native Spanish students and professors. In addition, one of the courses will be taught fully in Spanish, which will benefit me greatly by strengthening my Spanish speaking, reading, and writing skills. While in Spain, I hope to be able to interact with Spaniards and exchange information in order to compare and contrast their culture from my own. I’d also like to explore the city of Madrid,

Traveling to Spanish speaking countries and understanding the culture will make any trip the ultimate experience!

Sure, many of people mainly visit Spain to visit the big cites of Barcelona and Madrid, but I can personally assure you that there is so much more to explore. Running bulls, flamenco dancers, museums, Ibiza, Sagrada Familia, and Alhambra. The list goes on and on about the different places that an individual can experience whilst out there exploring the world. Let’s not forget the mouth-watering food too, one of which is by far the most popular dish that comes from Spain, and many fan-favorites, paella (a rice dish prepared with seafood). To further drive you to Spain, I’d like to address this. According to an article, “Why Take the Time to Visit the Alhambra in Spain?” it boldly states, “The ancient buildings, aqueducts, and other leftovers from hundreds of years ago offer amazing opportunities for tourists who take the time to visit them.” This is self-explanatory, if you would only take the time to really push and learn about the background of Spain, you will have the most amazing experience

Even though there are many differences and similarities between living in Spain and the US and clichés from both countries, living in the U.S has been great i love it down here maybe because it's all i know but also i think it would be awesome to visit spain just to meet different people and hear the way they speak and adapt to their lifestyles and just not do research on the differences, but to actually live them for

Since the beginning of my senior year, I have become president of Spanish Club, and I want to grow into an outstanding president. Having been a part of that club for the past three years, I have seen it grow and expand over time. My plans include numerous fundraisers throughout the year, going on field trips, and uniting my peers in this club by meeting at least once a week and enjoying each others company. Not knowing the stress, nor the arguments that would arise when it came to having everyone on the same page, I quickly realized the trouble that came with being in a position of authority. I naively thought that everyone could get along and would be held responsible, yet that is not what happened during the first few weeks.

What are some things you will need to consider as you plan for this trip? What are some things you will need to consider as you prepare for the meeting?

There is a reason behind almost everything that humans do during everyday life. However, we do not think about why we waved back at the person across the street, we just do it. Interpreting that person’s wave and reacting to it by waving back, smiling, or nodding is a part of sociology. After taking a sociology class you realize all these everyday behaviors have meaning. Now, all of a sudden I found myself thinking sociologically when I get into an elevator, wait in line at the grocery store, or even how I view myself.

First of all, I would develop relationships with the staff from my school. Being able to have one on one connections with them would allow me to have a close bond, and in the future they would be able to write recommendation letters for me. Also, I would be able to increase my social skills by bonding with classmates, staff, and especially the Puerto Ricans. Interacting with these people would help me in my field of study. Being part of the dental hygiene program, I would need to know about people's backgrounds, and I have to know how to relate to my patients. This trip would allow me to gain national experience by flying overseas rather than by car. It would also be the first step to one day being able to fly internationally. Being in Puerto Rico, I hope to learn a lot about the culture, specifically because it is a Latin culture. Being Mexican, I would love to see the similarities and differences between the cultures.

In comparison from the three generations of women in my family, including my grandmother, mother and myself the difference in women’s opportunity, freedoms and overall social norms have greatly changed. From expectations in the home, work, school and society there has been a large leap in positive alterations, many would agree that this change is for the better of societies overall functions. The biggest difference between the three generations of women was societies common idea that a woman belongs in the home. Although, this stereotype is still prevalent one can see a trend of raising young women to become independent and successful. Women have fought for their freedoms for many years and although there is still the question of true equality

Social norms have always played a major role in today's society. A social norm is how we consider behaviors to be appropriate. However, norms are the rules and guidelines regarding what kinds of behavior are acceptable (Mills 1959). Social norms are essentially the means by which any given society may construct and organize itself. They are the ways in which a society defines what tends to be acceptable and unacceptable when it comes to an individual. Different views change over time whether it is through history or an individual themselves who tends to age. Sometimes staying up to date with society and keeping up with the new trends can be unhealthy and have an effect on individuals and the public. The social norm I choose to break was walking into a public men's restroom at a restaurant while out with friends. I choose this social norm because it shows the men's reactions and behaviors once I entered their restroom. However, their behaviors showed how society acts toward certain situations in certain places and what roles are played during the process.

In the American society, there are many social norms relating to gender. There are certain expectations that both males and females must follow to be socially accepted. These norms and expectations are enforce in children’s lives at a young age. I know for me personally, when I was younger in a family full of boys, I would always hang out with them. In doing so, I would play with nerf guns and wrestler actions figure, what society considers a boy toy. My parents would always tell me that I needed to act more “like a girl.” As I got older, I realized that what my parents told me was stereotypical and that there are no such thing as what is appropriate for a male or female. Today as more and more things are becoming unisex, which means that it

“Children are natural born explorers” (Paredes, 2014). They question everything and seek answers to feed their never ending curiosity. As a child, I remember asking my parents what the purpose of school was. I would ask them questions such as Why do I go to school? What happens if I don’t go? and Why was school created? In response, my parents would tell me that school is important because it provides an environment where I can learn, and they would say that without an education, I had no future. They would also say that since all little children go to school, I have to go as well. I never really understood the purpose behind education when I was younger, but nonetheless I continued to go to school and learn and grow simply because going to school, in itself, is considered to be a social norm. Now that I am older, I am able to decipher what the purpose of education is. In fact, education serves multiple purposes. My interest in going to Spain is because I traveled there for a week during my senior year of high school and fell in love with the country and the city of Barcelona.
