Christy Llanes is an AP Biology, Biology, and AP Environmental Science teacher that educates students at Jose Marti MAST 6-12 Academy; she works with 8th-12th graders. Christy is also the head of the SECME Club, as well as the Head Chair of the Science Department. She believes her Science department offers an innovative and cutting edge program. Students learn to be critical thinkers, problem-solvers, and decision making citizens about the science and technology issues that encounter our society. Her 21st century teaching enables students to become future leaders who are able to overcome past scientific difficulties. She promotes learning and innovation within all her students. She has the power to build teams and enable them to work together as a whole. Christy can also empower others; she allows students to reach their full potential. A servant leader is someone who puts themselves on equal terms with their followers. There is a mutual bond of understanding and trust. Christy Llanes has all the qualities of a servant leader: confident, motivated, empowering, team-oriented, etc. She’s able to lead change, and inspire people to reach their goals. There is no single individual with power in her eyes, only a fair and balanced way of leading.

1) What are the most important qualities an effective leader should have? The willingness to listen others ideas and implement them with their own interpersonal skills. A leader must be willing to accept their own faults and learn from them. An active leader is willing to change their methods of leadership in order to grow as a person. A leader puts themselves on the same level as their followers because that way, people are able to share their own opinions without the fear of rejection. There are many attributes that a good leader requires, but some of the most important attributes are empathy, persistence, and knowledge.

A servant leader for me is an individual who simply puts others ahead of themselves, with the main purpose of achieving results for their organization, by keeping in mind the needs of everyone else around them. A servant leader is one with personality traits like; empathy, compassion good listening skills, stewardship, and an honest commitment to the growth of others. Servant leaders are individuals who have a natural inclination to serve, and such a conscious choice makes them desire to lead. This is in sharp contrast to the traditional leaders who aim to gain power or to acquire material belongings.
Being a leader is an important position to fulfill because not everyone carries leadership qualities. In order to become a good leader, this person must obtain specific qualities which should come to them naturally. However every good leader still needs to work on their qualities to become an even greater leader which may require a long time of work. I think a leader should be open minded and should be able to accept new ideas and new perspectives. A leader should be more optimistic and have hope. Being trustworthy is a great quality a leader should possess and should be able to demonstrate. A leader also needs to be trusted.
The other quality of a leader that I exhibit is hard work and dedication. I do my best to make each assignment or activity I do the best it can possibly be. I only ever miss school, practice or work if I have no other option available to me, and when I do miss, I try to make up my work as quickly as I can.
