My discussion with the client about what made his experience positive made me think about the clients experience from a broader perspective and not just from the social worker view, but from someone who experienced real trauma and overcame the challenges of the trauma they endured, by addressing the mental health issues and the contributing social factors. In addition, I was able to look at the whole experience from the eyes of a client and then think about how their needs were met as well as their feeling about the process. The client found the experience positive and beneficial because the goal was to resolve past conflicts that affected his present behavior. Another benefit is that the client overcame his anxieties and improved the way he related to and communicated with others.

Reflecting on the Common Factors Approach using this intervention as an example will help resolve past issues for some clients that have been affecting the client since childhood as well as help the client deal with presenting anxiety, however, a possible disadvantage to using this form of therapy is that resolving issues that are deep-seeded since childhood can be painful, time consuming and difficult. Lastly, the Common Factors Approach is not for everyone and if one element like a clear mechanism of change is missing the outcome could be

The therapist helps the client identify particular concerns and how this could possibly help or hinder their recovery. Being able to discuss these concerns and receiving a different perspective can help the client view them in a bigger context. Thus allowing them to begin to stabilize and normalize their environment. This new acceptance will then allow the client to see all the different possibilities for a better life.
This essay will identify a case I have been involved in and have continuously had to assess whilst on placement. It will refer to a child who will be identified as A. A is a young carer and has only recently returned home after being removed from his mothers care due to her having a substance abuse problem and mental health concerns. American prison food was already subpar to begin with, but with budget cuts and efforts to save money, many prisons and companies chose to make cuts with the quality and amounts of food given to the prisoners. The Schuylkill County Prison in Pennsylvania was sued for not feeding their inmates enough to feed a child (Santo & Iaboni, 2015). Some prisons, and private companies, generally go by a calorie minimum that must be provided, which sometimes allow for prisoners to only get two meals a day, these meals can cost as low as 56 cents per meal, and supposedly these menus are being reviewed by a nutritionist (Santo & Iaboni, 2015). One of these meal programs provided by a prison in Maricopa County, Arizona has even chosen to cut out meat
As social workers, it is our responsibility to use the most effective method of practice to engage our clients, assess their situation, and help them create goals that will produce positive outcomes. Every client will present a unique set of challenges; therefore, the social worker must be careful in choosing an approach that will meet the client’s needs, compliment the skills of the therapist and are in line with the agency’s mission. According to Robert and Watkins (2009), psychotherapy is a therapeutic interaction between a trained therapist and a client that is

Therapists trained in solution-focused brief therapy has the ability to ask questions that help guide the session. These questions include coping questions, miracle questions, and scaling questions. Social workers can help clients understand their strengths within themselves and how these aspects can continue as positive coping mechanisms. Additionally, the client can the client can gain hopefulness, motivation, and confidence through multiple therapy sessions. Compared to the nursing field within inpatient and outpatient settings social workers brings a similar perspective to clients, but creates a deeper bond with the client. The use of solution-focused brief therapy seen in both social work and nursing professional reduces the inpatient length of stay and becomes centered on the patient’s own goals during the admission (Ferraz & Wellman, 2008, p. 41). Social workers understand that the clients know what is best for them and have the ability to make goals for themselves. Within the therapeutic process, therapists listen, absorb, connect, and client’s response building towards concrete solutions. Additionally, social workers are supportive by identifying the strengths within the client and working with those to create more goals within the treatment plans.
Social workers are faced with different dilemmas each and every day. It is a social workers job to be committed to their jobs and committed to their clients. Social workers are those people who are interested in helping people and helping to improve their lives. All help isn’t good help. Some of the things that social workers decide to do with their clients end up being unethical. As we explore the Jones case study, there are several different unethical decisions that were made. There are a few different dilemmas throughout the case study. Confidentiality, receiving gifts from clients and their family, social media, and also developing relationships (dual relationships). It important for social workers to have the resources such as the NASW and the standards of practice manual. The code gives us a set of values, principles, and standards to guide decision making and conduct when ethical issues arise.
If the client feels “safe” in the session, this can be very powerful for them. As sessions occur, the client will feel more comfortable in trusting the clinician with their feelings, attitudes and emotions. The client is able to present their needs and problems in ways that only they can express. Another factor that may resonate in the sessions may include transference and counter-transference. Transference is when the client’s attitudes, feelings and emotional conflicts from past events begin to be directed to the therapist, while Countertransference is exactly the opposite, when the therapist’s attitudes, feelings, and emotional conflicts from the past are directed towards the client (Transference and Countertransference, 2011). There are not too many positive factors with Countertransference, except being able to recognize it, when it exists, and be able to work out any conflict. A client’s experiences can affect their feelings, emotions, and behaviors towards their therapist. If the therapist remains their professionalism, and sets the proper limits and boundaries, a client can work through past experiences that are affecting their functioning. In a lecture, it is the role of the counselor to recognize the client’s experience; reflect and process the client’s emotional state, as well as process their own emotional reactions to clients and their issues. When clients can work through their problems from past

Social Work’s core philosophy and values are centered around social justice and social well-being. Oppression, injustice, discrimination, and violence are antithetical to the social work profession. Social Work believes in strength-based approaches and the person-in-environment perspective to cater the needs and welfare of individuals, families, groups, communities, and society at large. Generally, the target populations for social work are vulnerable, marginalized, and oppressed people; however, social workers provide services to people with a wide range of problems, such as poverty, addiction, mental illness, etc. to empower them to meet their own needs. Historically, the social work profession started its operation by providing neighborhood
