For social work students, the outlook for career paths in the field looks very good right now, due to different factors including age, ethnicity, and family structures. Main focuses are now shifting to important topics like women, children, older individuals, and military veterans. Growth is present in almost every aspect of social work, with the most prominent present in fields related to communities, mental health, counselors and therapists, probation and correctional officers, and treatment facilities. Most of the jobs emerging will be located in cities, but there will be job opportunities for those with a BSW. It made this list because it is not as stressful or physically demanding as other jobs may be. I will admit that I was surprised to read this information because based off of the information I’ve read and heard from others, it seems to me like it would be a stressful job, but the pros of the job outweigh the cons. I feel that those who are serious about becoming a social will do whatever it takes, as they have seen or experienced things that lead them to better the lives of other people, no matter what. Social work is a career that finds and chooses you, rather than you selecting it. Social work has always been an immense portion of my life even when I had no recollection of what social work entailed. My life revolved around so many situations that had a social worker stepped in, my life would be totally different than it is today. Many individuals and agencies lack the compassion and empathy for oppressed people. Having been in many circumstances, has given me the experience and background that influenced me to go into social work, as well as the understanding of my role and responsibilities that I will assume as a professional social worker, and my reasons for selecting the program at ASU School of Social Work and thoughts on how the Mission Statement addresses my career goals.

Although there are many different educational directions someone can take to become a social worker. Higher positions usually require a master's degree which takes about two years to complete. Every US state requires that you have a clinical license if you decide to do a mental branch of social working. I plan on receiving a bachelor's degree, and possibly a masters, in sociology or social work. To get this degree, I will more than likely attend the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. I have chosen to pursue a social work education and career because I have a strong desire to help, educate, and support those in need. The world is changing quite quickly, and the need for social workers is going to increase over the next few years. The changing policies are coming faster than those who it effects can cope with. My hope with a degree from the Wayne State University social work program is to increase the opportunity for success and safety in adolescent populations in urban communities.
1) There are many careers out there to choose from, the question is what career is right for me? After years of thinking deeply about my future I decided to pursue my career in social work. This career is both rewarding and fit my expectations for what I wanted educationally.
The Bachelor of Social Work degree is more than just a qualification in my eyes. It goes beyond receiving a title or a piece of paper at the end of my schooling. Social Work is a career where you do not only learn how to help others, you also learn how to help yourself. I am excited to learn new ways to enhance my self-awareness and mindfulness. I am interested in the Social Worker position with the New Hope Rehab facility in Billings, MT. By night, I am a 911-Dispatcher for the City of Billings, a position I have excelled in for the past 18 years. By day, I have been fulfilling the remaining requisites of my master’s degree in social work and gaining medical social work experience as an intern with the care management department at St. Vincent Healthcare. While I have enjoyed my time at the Billings Communication Center, I will be an MSW upon graduation on May 12, 2018 and tremendously eager to start a new career with new opportunities to grow.
I am applying for the Social Work position at our Hollywood location. I have over the years have come to love and have a great passion in helping those that need a voice to be heard. I am an independent, passionate, goal and task oriented individual who has excellent interpersonal skill which enables me to communicate calmly with all team-members and patients over the years.
This week I worked closely with the social worker here at the school. We went on home visits as well as this place called second chance. Second chance is basically an alternative place for students who have been suspended go to complete classwork, and their absence from school would not be counted against them. During the home visit, I was able to witness first hand what its like to communicate with someone who's both new to the country and only has little to no understanding of the english language. We had to use a translator via cell phone to translate from english to french. It was really cool and interesting.
Social work is the job that someone is looking for. Social workers are the people that typically work for government agencies, or in some cases work for hospitals as well. Their primary duty is to help people get the help they need to function in society. The duties they perform can be helping find work, drug counseling, and in extreme cases remove children from a home that is a danger to the child. In order to qualify to be a social worker, a person must have a Bachelor’s Degree in Social Work, or related field such as sociology, or psychology. (Statistics) Plus depending on the state if you are a clinical, or non-clinical worker a license to work in the field. Now due to the increase of demand in medical care across the country. It has increased the need for social workers. From 2014 to 2024 the career is to see a 12% increase in growth. (Statistics) Now this also begins to change within the career field; with those that work in school, and family work will see an increase of 6%, which is on par with the national average. (Statistics) Yet those in the medical, or mental health side of the work will see an increase of 19%
Social work has been my dream career since I was an undergraduate student. The very first time when I thought to choose social work as my future career was from a volunteer experience.
