Working in the social services field was always my dream. Whether working with children, family, adults, elderly etc. this career path is so broad it instills the hope of a career opportunity. My first year working in this field was in 2010 when I interned as an intake specialist in an outpatient drug treatment facility, while completing my bachelor’s degree in human services. Thereafter, I was able to branch off in various areas such as a case manager at a domestic violence shelter, housing specialist, substance abuse counselor and now a family services specialist.
Social workers deal with a wide variety of people from all walks of life. There are challenges that people in the social work field deal with that most people do not take in to consideration. Whatever job position social workers are in; they connect with a lot of difficult experiences and deal with a little bit of everything.
What sort of career is right for me? This question is one that many young adults will inevitably have to answer, myself included. After researching the many career choices in the Behavioral health field I could certainly see myself becoming a Social worker in the state of Maine.
My career objective is to become a social worker when I finish school. I would like to become a social worker because of the many things they do for kids. Ever since I was little i always wanted to help people out. This job would make me happy because i love working with kids. Making kids happy and seeing them succeed brings joy to me . I feel as though there aren't many people who try with kids and they are not giving them a chance. People assume that just because they do bad things that it makes them a bad person when all they want is attention. A social worker has to do many things and they are responsible for helping people and families cope with their problems and try to help them. I have met many people who have struggled growing up and
I chose social working as my career because many other people go through tough situations and have a difficult time talking to relatives or friends to help them through a tough situation. I thought of becoming a social worker so I can have the ability to change the lives of others. Social work is one of those careers you can truly make a difference in people’s lives. I want to become a social worker because life isn’t about just helping yourself it’s about helping others as well, which is what social workers do for a living. Child and family social workers protect children and families in need of assistance. Many families and children don’t feel comfortable talking to just anyone about obstacles they have faced in their lives which is why
There are several goals that I hope to achieve by pursuing a graduate degree in Social Work. Pursuing a MSW will provide me with the knowledge, tools, and skills-set that will be fundamental to the achievement my career goals outlined below.
Starting from being a certified nursing assistant, to becoming a unit secretary for a hospital that specialize in wound care, I have always known that I wanted to help individuals in need. However, I noticed that I was not happy with helping individuals in medical need. It wasn’t until I decided to continue my education that I introduced to the world of social work. Going up with a single mother that suffered from drug abuse, my family depended on social services for a lot of assistance, from everything such as food stamps to family counseling. This life experience helped guide my thoughts on pursuing social work as a career. I know that I want to help individuals that are down on their luck, but I want to take it one step farther, by providing individual counseling to adults that may need more one on one time, than what is normally given from a social service agency. Counseling will also give me a chance to do what I love most and that is to talk and get to know the individuals that I am helping make like changing decisions. Working as a clinical social work has my interest because it does not put limits on what I can do or who I can help, and it will set me up for my future goal of becoming a licensed clinical social worker. Being my own boss and changing my community is my dream job, opportunity and goal. I am currently on my way with changing my community and living my dream, because I am currently working for a non-profit

When I first thought about getting a degree in Sociology, I did not realize how wide the focus could be. It seems like the possibilities are endless. Before narrowing down my search and accessing my goals, I felt quite overwhelmed and did not have much faith that I would be able to narrow it down when there were so many different interests and passions I had when it came to making the world a better place. While there are several different possible careers that spark my interest, I do have a couple of main focuses that have been in my thoughts for quite some time.
For social work students, the outlook for career paths in the field looks very good right now, due to different factors including age, ethnicity, and family structures. Main focuses are now shifting to important topics like women, children, older individuals, and military veterans. Growth is present in almost every aspect of social work, with the most prominent present in fields related to communities, mental health, counselors and therapists, probation and correctional officers, and treatment facilities. Most of the jobs emerging will be located in cities, but there will be job opportunities for those with a BSW. I found it interesting that there are about 650,000 social workers currently, and by 2020, there will be about 811,700. The fields with the most growth include mental health and elderly
There is many information that is important to the public, but most people are not aware of. For example, the fringe economy. Being a social worker will give me a great opportunity to reach out and educate people, especially low-income families and immigrants who needs urgent rescue from the fringe company. High interest rate and money management are some of the information that might help.
My future career interest is between “community service manager” and a “social worker”. I am interested in community service manager career because it provides services to the public and it primarily focuses on community-based environment. Its main functions consist of organizing, managing and coordinating. If I am able to improve the general public by starting at one community at the time and helping those in needs, that would be a great accomplishment. The good thing is, I would have a choice of either working in a non-profit or government based organization. I am also interested in the career field of a social worker. I would narrowed it down by focusing more on the geriatric and the disabled population. The basic duties of a social
A social worker has a very important job. Social workers help children and families in need of food, homes, and health care. They help children have a brighter future. There are many different types of social work. There are mental health, child and family, elementary, and high school social workers.
In the social work profession, the primary goal is to aid and empower individuals or families who are faced with oppression, vulnerable in society, and living in poverty (Code of Ethics, 2008). Social workers strive to improve the welfare of those who need assistance meeting their daily basic essentials for survival. According to Abraham Maslow’s Hierarchy of Basic needs, a person requires five clusters to make them an integrated and self-motivated whole in society. The five clusters include: physiological needs; security needs; social needs; self-esteem needs; and self-actualizing needs (Aanstoos, 2014). The Code of Ethics is an important component that ensures that the profession is held to its highest standard and to protect the community. In this paper, the intern was placed at the Mobile County Department of Human Resources in the Adult Protective Services department and will be disclosing information about a particular case during their internship. To protect the clients and all parties associated confidentially within this case, material that could reveal their identity will not be discussed and only relevant information about the case will be addressed. The clients in this case have been both diagnosed with agoraphobia with panic disorder. According to the Social Work Dictionary (2014) agoraphobia is described as “an irrational and persistent fear of being in unfamiliar places or of leaving one’s home” (Baker, p. 13). Agoraphobia with panic disorder is a difficult
