The field of Social Psychology is intriguing in the sense that it is constantly looking at how the presence of people influences one’s individual thoughts, behaviors and feelings. This is interesting because the individual mind and behavior constantly shifts to who is present in the current situation. This being said, I would like to do social psychology under the criminal justice or health care system because of the many things you can do. Denzel Washington plays veteran L.A.P.D. Det. Sgt. Alonzo Harris. For thirteen years this highly decorated cop has been on the front lines in the war against narcotics. He's pledged to protect and serve the citizens of Los Angeles, but his optimism about police work has long since been chipped away by the reality of life on the streets. He and the tight-knit group of officers that report to him have crossed the line between legality and corruption. They find themselves breaking the laws they're supposed to enforce. Alonzo's ethics and his logic are in complete opposition to the "book" which most cops must follow. "It takes a thief to catch a thief,"
This paper will discuss caregivers who charged with caring for those who are unable to look after themselves. We will consider the sociocultural explanations, social learning, and intra-individual theories associated with this type of abuse. Since most abusers are caretakers who have been entrusted with the tending to of those who are unable to care for themselves, we will examine possible causes that lead them to their cruel behavior. We will also address how the maltreatment of helpless victims falls into two classifications, abuse and neglect, and they both can be physical and/or emotional in nature. Social workers are faced with different dilemmas each and every day. It is a social workers job to be committed to their jobs and committed to their clients. Social workers are those people who are interested in helping people and helping to improve their lives. All help isn’t good help. Some of the things that social workers decide to do with their clients end up being unethical. As we explore the Jones case study, there are several different unethical decisions that were made. There are a few different dilemmas throughout the case study. Confidentiality, receiving gifts from clients and their family, social media, and also developing relationships (dual relationships). Law enforcement and social work, is there is difference between the two. Yes, they both have different job titles but do they sometimes do cross path in their career field. Most, people disagree that there is a dichotomy between law enforcement and social workers. While an offender is on supervision there are some three main functions that Latessa and Davis talk about. Those functions are: law enforcement, social worker, and bureaucrat role. The law enforcement role focuses on the enforcing the law, social worker role make sure that the offender is adjusting to their community successfully, and finally the bureaucrat role makes sure that the agency policies are being carried out. Papaorzzi and Gendreau, talk about how a PO is successful with their casework. They, gone on to say that they are successful because they balance their law enforcement and social work case work. Another reason they are successful, is because they reducing the recidivism rate is a goal of the department. As an officer, you put into many different situations and are required to make the best decision possible for the both the offender and the victim. For example, if a young child was being abused by their mother or father, as an officer it is your duty to arrest that parent for abuse but also making sure the child can stay with a guardian who will not put the child in any danger. Now, there is some evidence that believes that there is a false dichotomy, reason is that people believe that there should
It may seem as if nothing is neutral or apolitical about the world, however; where or to whom a political answer to a problem is applied swings the direction the public perceives of the result. Incarceration applies a political question, does segregation or alienation work to reform, to the failings of one individual in a community. That individual is a product of a community, the short comings of that person were fostered by that environment. While social work incorporates medical and therapy diagnoses to describe a set of problems experienced by individuals and groups, it can create its own stigmas within the community. For example, “clinical depression” that leads a person to act violently cannot be fully addressed within that individual
