My goal is to one day become a social worker for individuals with developmental disabilities. My goal is to reach this point through undergrad and graduate education, ultimately receiving a degree. I have been accepted into my early decision school, a great four-year college where I can follow a path that will lead me to a graduate school where I can finish a social work degree. I want to go into this field simply because I want to advocate for people with disabilities and help families understand their options and find the best care possible. A year ago I created a program for teens with developmental disabilities where I host events to give the teens a “typical” high-school experience. The events are monthly and are held at a variety
I am interested in working with the Hispanic/Latino community of Cleveland, Ohio. As a member of the Hispanic/Latino community I know there is a need for Spanish speaking professionals. My goal is to find a job at a local hospital where I can do medical and health care social work.
While being apart of this field work class I hope to learn more about the hands on work social workers do everyday. I expect to work close with a social work department in one of my field of interest to overall learn. What I expect to learn is the everyday schedule of a social worker in the familiy services concentration, and get more knowledge of the occupation of social work by actually focusing/completing real life task in this job field.
Growing up I dealt with many forms of abuse, and due to all the trauma I had a lot of built up aggression. Unfortunately, at the time I felt there was no other way to express myself except to act out. As a consequence of my bad behavior, I lost many close friends, and missed many good opportunities. As a result, I was required to go to intensive family therapy for three days a week, with a women named Julie. Fortunately, after therapy I saw a change in myself, and I began to learn new skills to communicate, and cope with my anger. Although, I’ve gone to see many therapists before, Julie was the one counselor that gave me hope, and after meeting her my life has positively changed. This experience of going to family therapy, and meeting Julie has influenced me to want to help other troubled teens who have dealt with abuse.
Social work acquainted itself to me at an extremely youthful age. Being adopted, and being teased pitilessly in school for being "embraced" taught me an incredible arrangement about the lack of care of individuals. I draw from my own repository of encounters. I have thought about low self-regard and low self-viability since adolescence. I know the torment, one I personally ended, constructing my own feeling of positive mental self-view and freedom. I guaranteed myself I could never be vulnerable again, that my bad dream could never have been futile. Having brought up two wonderful girls alone, I am mindful of the arrangement of difficulties, adjusting work and being a good example.

My academic goal is to maintain my 3.8 GPA and achieve a Master of Social Work at Troy University. I am presently a student in the Master of Social Work program at Troy University in Montgomery, Alabama. It has always been my desire to become a Social Worker. My motivation for wanting to become a Social Worker was determine by several factors, which includes my passion to help others and life challenges.
When I started thinking about my future, becoming a Social worker was never in my plans. I knew that I always wanted to help people; I just never thought I could make a career out of it. When was younger, I spent time working at a nursing home serving them dinner. During my time working there, I was able to get to know the elderly patients and began to enjoy spending time with them, and just being someone, they could talk to. I also worked at a summer camp and an after-school program, which was the first jobs that sparked my interest in wanting to work with children. After working both of these jobs, I strongly felt that I wanted to become a teacher. My academic concentration during my first three years of college was Early Childhood Education,
I wanted to enter the social work field to help others and to make an impact on people’s lives who may be struggling because of who I am. I am a person that has cerebral palsy and because of this I feel like I have greater life experience because of everything that I have endured growing up. If I can share my story of all the obstacles that I have overcome given the difficult disability that I have I hope it will inspire others to know that nothing is truly impossible. This life experience has allowed me to be able to help people better because it has made me more open minded, sensitive, strong, relatable, and understanding. These life experiences are what made me want to decide to go into the social work field because I want to help people just like I was helped and even more so.
I know many potential candidates for the MA in Social Work degree are typically drawn to studying the course due to painful experiences exposed to them through their lives that they don’t want vulnerable people to experience. As for me, I am fairly lucky to have had a very secure and traditional upbringing with two parents at home, with the love and support of my family surrounding me. I have appreciated this my whole life and I would love to help vulnerable families, adults and children, who are experiencing difficult times to achieve the happy life we all deserve. Having decided on a career in social work early on, I have steered my academic studies towards this field, choosing to study Sociology at A Level whilst taking up the opportunity to work as a support worker for a programme run at school.
Starting from being a certified nursing assistant, to becoming a unit secretary for a hospital that specialize in wound care, I have always known that I wanted to help individuals in need. However, I noticed that I was not happy with helping individuals in medical need. It wasn’t until I decided to continue my education that I introduced to the world of social work. Going up with a single mother that suffered from drug abuse, my family depended on social services for a lot of assistance, from everything such as food stamps to family counseling. This life experience helped guide my thoughts on pursuing social work as a career. I know that I want to help individuals that are down on their luck, but I want to take it one step farther, by providing individual counseling to adults that may need more one on one time, than what is normally given from a social service agency. Counseling will also give me a chance to do what I love most and that is to talk and get to know the individuals that I am helping make like changing decisions. Working as a clinical social work has my interest because it does not put limits on what I can do or who I can help, and it will set me up for my future goal of becoming a licensed clinical social worker. Being my own boss and changing my community is my dream job, opportunity and goal. I am currently on my way with changing my community and living my dream, because I am currently working for a non-profit

The social work profession as I understand essentially concerns the desire to help those in need of resources, services, and counsel. I consider the social work profession to be a passion-driven and providing career. I understand social work to be a profession providing helpful resources to those who seek assistance from others in various aspects, along with those who do not but can benefit. Being a social work professional means to me providing services only obtainable by professionals to those deserving in order to guarantee equitability, and providing sufficient counsel to those seeking professional guidance. I have always been passionate and confident when it comes to helping and giving advice to others, which ultimately interested me

As the saying goes, “Our children are our future” and who you are as a child can determine who you can be later on in life. It is important for a child to be in a safe, comfortable and loving environment during its development so that the child can have the full advantage to become the best he can be in his future. My future career as a social worker will ensure just that. I chose this profession because of my own history. Growing up, I’ve had my share of social workers in my house. I experienced them as people who helped my family during a hard time. This is a career where I can fight for people’s rights. I will also be able to protect
