When my parents first divorced in 2008, I was uprooted from my childhood home to a tiny house on the other side of town. I felt alone and confused, with no one to really talk to. Then, I was introduced to Meredith. We had dinner at my house, and immediately clicked. Soon we were going out once a month, at least, to have dinner, go to movies, or other fun activities run by the Jewish Big Brother Big Sister organization. Things at home were often hectic and I appreciated the time that I could just have fun and relax. The time I spent with my Big Sister Meredith enabled me to feel validated and supported for the things I went through in my parents divorce, and encouraged to be myself and follow my dreams. As I have grown older, I have become a role model myself. I have worked in a classroom setting as a assistant teacher at a local preschool and as a nanny over the summer. I’ve met all different kinds of families who made me realize working with children is something I am passionate about.
I hope to work as a psychologist or social worker with children in the refugee community who have experienced

One of the things that the school provides for their psychology students is experiential courses, such as practicum in Human Services. In this program students spend 6 hours a week as interns in a mental health, child, family, or social service setting. Along with the experiential courses, there are psychology labs around campus. One of the most popular labs, and the one that I am most interested working with is the Amen Nursery School. In this lab, students are able to observe the social behaviors of the children at the nursery school. I feel that the programs provided by the school will help me achieve my goal of becoming a child psychologist or social
I believe that your program will provide me with very vital and important skills that I can implement into my future career in social
My main reason for applying to the Simmons School of Social Work is that it is an accredited university with an excellent reputation as an educational institution and offers an MSW program that is predominantly online. I attended Thomas Edison State University online and earned my bachelor’s degree with a GPA of 3.9. Once I made the decision to continue my education, I searched for MSW programs that were available online with CSWE accreditation in compliance with New Jersey State social work licensure. I found that Simmons’s specialized program in clinical social work is well suited for my educational needs.
The decision to take the clinical route as a second year MSW graduate student, was one that took no hesitation to make. My passion for children and the preservation of families have been a propelling factor in my Social Work career; both academically and professionally. These two entities have motivated me to remain steadfast on the journey to obtaining my MSW so I can continue to be a vessel for children and families who are in need of support and empowerment. The clinical spectrum of social work practice has strengthened my ability to work proficiently with multiple clients and perform well when assisting families in different realms of social work practice. The knowledge gained during my four years as an undergraduate BSW student and
I am interested in the MSW program at Walden University because of the objectives of the program to make sure that their students learn what it is that they are suppose too. I am also interested in the Master of Social Work program here at Walden because of the teachers working in the field and having firsthand knowledge about the field. The Master of Social Work program at Walden also have the concentration that I am interested in which is Children and Family Services. My plans for after I receive my degree is to become a license social worker. I also plan to start working at either the department of family and children services or at a local adoption agency.
As long as I could remember, I always wanted to be in a public service. Watching shows about attorneys to therapist, I wanted to help those who could not help themselves. In high school I took law class that would change my views on being a attorney to being a psychologist. I realized before one can get into the court system, something had to stem from their childhood or traumatic incident with therapy one could avoid the justice system or rehabilitate. After community college I began working with children with mental and behavioral illnesses.
I cannot emphasize enough the passion I have for child welfare services, I like helping individuals, children to be exact. I cannot see myself doing anything else with my life I never wanted to do anything else in life. I have demonstrated a great deal of capacity for success in the Indiana child welfare scholars program by a number of things: one, staying commented to one major; two presenting myself as a practicing child welfare worker; three, pushing myself to always do better in my classes. Once I knew I wanted to go to college in order to achieve my dream social work was my only option. If I did anything else it would have been for the money I would not have been for the right respectable reasons.
There are many reasons why I want to join the undergraduate program in social work. Many of these reasons come from both academic and personal experiences. As a child I lived in a poor neighborhood where I was surrounded by people who were experiencing poverty, homelessness, cultural and language barriers, unemployment, discrimination, and other problems. I also saw friends and family later in my life go through hardships that ranged from child abuse, domestic violence, to drug addiction. These experiences greatly affected how I saw the world.
I was born in the third world country where analphabetism is at its zenith poverty is rampant. I Migrated to America from Haiti where you have to learn a new language, your no longer in your comfort zone. In 1987, coming in to America its different then the Caribbean where really give me a more focus on how to better serve my people, by pursuing my dream. At first my parents wanted me to be a nurse but that was never my interest. I always wanted to be a social worker because the field always fascinated me and also to have the opportunity to work in a variety of settings.
I am interested in admission to the Master of Social Work program at Arizona State University in order to work toward my professional goal of pursuing a career as a licensed clinical social worker. I aspire to work with people from diverse backgrounds, and I am particularly interested in working with individuals and families who may be under-represented and who face marginalization and barriers of discrimination. I strive to be a positive member of a mental health team within a community where there is need for positive representation, effective therapeutic and social work services, and continuing social change. Many experiences in my life have contributed to my interest in becoming a social worker and to seek admittance to Arizona State University
A recruiter first introduced me to the AmeriCorps Network one year ago at the annual, University of Connecticut Careers for the Common Good fair. During his brief presentation, I became intrigued. As a result, I opted to further research this organization. I then realized that I wanted to become one of the 80,000 members per year to join because, as an endeavoring youth social worker, I believe that serving with this organization will be a phenomenal opportunity to learn how to appropriately work with children from all racial, ethnic, and socioeconomic backgrounds. The experience I will gain working towards strengthening local communities by addressing matters paramount to the populace, including enhancing the quality of life for local students while acquiring invaluable core competencies, obtaining money for my education and discovering a new appreciation for citizenship is worthwhile as I work towards achieving my ultimate career objective.
Growing up, when asked to pick one word to describe myself, I always chose the word helpful. I chose the word helpful because no matter the situation I was willing to help anyone. At the age of 14 my helpful attitude was challenged when my 4 and 5-year-old nephews were put in foster care. At the time I was to young to truly understand what was going on. One thing I did know is I couldn’t help them because it was out of my control.
Late one Monday night in the midst of fall semester turmoil, a group of hurting and broken ladies began to share their burdens. I was grieved for the young women sitting before me; however, I could not discern how to react or bring clarity to their diverse situations. I could contribute my opinions, and relay advice on how to best adapt to the setting at hand; yet I quickly realized I was not equipped for this job. Attending the University of Alabama has been one of the most treasured moments of my life thus far.
The field of social work is boundless, and my educational attainment from the bachelor of social work program at Grand Valley State University has adequately prepared me to enter the field. However, by obtaining a master’s degree in social work, I will only be further expanding my opportunities and amassing my knowledge and understanding of diverse populations and the field. At this time, I am motivated to pursue a master’s degree in social work, because I want to serve our country and practice in the field of social work; I want to be an United States Navy Social Worker. However, the U.S. Defense Department requires social workers to obtain their master’s degree before signing with any military branch. Moreover, I am motivated to obtain my MSW, so
The role of a social worker varies greatly depending on the circumstances and individuals involved. I view the role of a social worker broadly, as someone who helps people in need by utilizing community resources, government agencies and proven therapeutic techniques. Social work is an integral piece of an imperfect but necessary societal safety net that promotes self-empowerment and social justice. Those working in the field have the opportunity to change the trajectory of a person’s life, perhaps making a life-long positive impact. Most often, a social worker is assisting society’s most challenged populations who simply do not possess the ability or resources to help themselves.
I am applying to the two year program at Stony Brook University because I want to further my education so that I can pursue my goal of helping others achieve a successful and productive life. My passion originates from realizing that there is a need for social workers who can make a difference in people’s life by being supportive and providing the necessary aid needed for everyday survival. Therefore, I believe by completing my master’s degree in social work I can help build a better world by providing care and services that is imperative and vital for survival. There have been many experiences that have influenced my goal to be a social worker. I have learned through personal and profession experience that helping people can have a huge impact.
