After spending over a decade studying and working in a vast spectrum of fields, I can no longer ignore my ardent desire to dedicating my life in social work. Prior to completing my Bachelor’s degree in Psychology and Associates degree in Radiography, I attended cosmetology school and established my own business in bridal make-up. At a younger age, I was drawn to the allure of the beauty industry for creativity purposes. However, I realized that my love for the industry had evolved into a love and longing for connecting with people. I cherished my one-on-one time with clients and I was often told that I offered more of a therapeutic service rather than beauty service! I thrived on listening to the life’s stories of my clients and my passionate aspiration for social work began to blossom. I volunteer at a non-profit social service agency and have become addicted to the fulfilment I get from helping others and making a positive difference. I find a sense of solace and satisfaction like no other after offering my time to those in need. I admire the social workers that I work with and am in awe of their altruism and benevolence. My purpose in life is to give back and be a service to humanity. …show more content…
It is a field that was very different from any of my previous experience. My schedule consisted of fulltime classes two days a week, and three days of 8-hour clinical training. In my freshman year of the program I faced some personal tribulation and went through a divorce. Despite the challenging times and the unfamiliar concentration, I managed to succeed. Sometimes, we are faced with hardship or constriction to extract the highest and best potential out of ourselves. I acknowledge that my dedication and commitment can lead to me to wherever I set my vision on. In addition, my family support in continuing my education has been a tremendous blessing to ease my financial
I have yet to encounter a social worker who entered the profession for acclaim or prestige. It is a demanding career with long hours and ceaseless paperwork. Social workers are frequently overburdened in addition to being underpaid. Occasionally, they witness agonizing tragedy, fundamentally changing them. Having worked in social services for a number of years, I have had these experiences.

Compared to this time last year, I have more self-confidence when identifying as a social worker. Even though I had previous work experience in the field, I internally referred to myself as a student. Since completing my foundation year of field, I have embraced the term social worker professionally and personally. Professionally, I am constantly aware of the core values my title encompasses while assisting the clients whom I serve. These core values have developed in my own personal beliefs and moral systems. Recognizing people’s strengths and systems that incorporate their lives that reflect avenues to which may rely on the assist of a social worker. When I was growing up, I wanted to make a difference in the world by helping people who were less fortunate. I spent a lot of time volunteering at Stamford Hospital and raising money for my community through my local church. Somewhere along the line, though, I lost sight of my childhood ambitions and began to pursue a lucrative career in business for the prestige, competition, and money. I graduated from Temple University with a Bachelors of Business Administration in January 2014 and a week later, I began working for Liberty Mutual, a Fortune 100 insurance company. In reality, though, I had no passion for insurance. I felt the work was devoid of meaning, but most importantly, I was not being fulfilled as a person. After six months, I realized that no matter how far I climbed the proverbial corporate ladder, I would never reach happiness in this career. I handed in my two weeks notice and purchased a one-way ticket to Europe. This is my story of how I rediscovered my passion for helping others and developed an interest in social work.
Life is a journey filled with opportunities and challenges. Being a social worker allows me to alleviate client’s depression and help them to develop positive values towards life. I would like to major in Social Work because social workers have assisted me to relieve stress and I want to repay his kindness. In my childhood, I would describe myself as “sadness” in the film Inside Out as I always think negatively and find my life meaningless. Fortunately, I can seek help from social worker and learn to appreciate what I have. I will try to face the problem optimistically as it provides me a chance to grow maturely. More importantly, I can learn to appreciate the strength of others, comprehend what ‘Empathy’ is and offer assistance to client.
When my parents first divorced in 2008, I was uprooted from my childhood home to a tiny house on the other side of town. I felt alone and confused, with no one to really talk to. Then, I was introduced to Meredith. We had dinner at my house, and immediately clicked. Soon we were going out once a month, at least, to have dinner, go to movies, or other fun activities run by the Jewish Big Brother Big Sister organization.
My career thus far has shown me that I am dedicated to working in a helping profession and that I hope to continue to learn and strive to be effective in this role for the forward progress toward access to equal opportunities and quality of life, wich is integral to the health and peacefulness in the larger communities within which I will work. My experiences during my professional positions working with children, adolescents, parents, and families have directly contributed to my desire to persue a master’s in social work as the next important step in my career. In order to further my education, I have taken several graduate courses in social work, education, and psychology. I have enjoyed graduate classes and being a part of a focussed learning community.
There are many occupations people dream of becoming when they grow up. The thought of becoming a veterinarian, doctor, or even a ballerina crossed through my mind numerous times during my adolescence. Social Work on the other hand, was never even a consideration for my future career until about a year ago. Once the thought had passed through my mind, I decided to do more research on the possibility. Which finally led me to the conclusion that becoming a social worker had the possibility of being a good fit for my future career. This interview project has enforced the belief that becoming a Social Worker is something I can see myself doing later on in life.
There are numerous career paths in social work, providing a broad range of opportunities and environments. Although all social workers espouse the common goal of helping others, professionals have the opportunity to specialize their services and focus on certain
Social work, and more specifically therapy, is a field in which I am highly interested and that I believe is incredibly important. Taking psychology classes and further learning about the field has increased my interest in social work. Psychology is behind every aspect of a person’s life - relationships, communication, careers, and everywhere else as well. It is the reasoning behind all a person’s actions and choices. I find this fascinating, and would like to continue learning about it. Furthermore, I found learning about mental disorders and how to treat them extremely interesting. In my opinion, it is crucial to know how to help such people, and it increases my desire to pursue a career in this field. The fact that psychology is prevalent in every person’s life is in large part why social work is so important.
People always ask you the same question when they find out that you want to pursue becoming a social worker and it is often accompanied with an elaborate, somewhat frightened facial expression – “why?” But like most other passions, it is not an idea that randomly registers as you are examining eggs on aisle 14 at your local grocery store or appears as some sort of revolutionary epiphany. As a child, we hear young minds express their interest in becoming fire fighters, police officers, or even doctors but it is rare to hear a child exhale his or her curiosity about social work. Deciding to embark on the path to a profession that requires an individual to face real-world experiences that often lead to poor mental health, rare human behaviors,
After all the hard work and challenges I may face academically, I’ve learned that I may also face emotional challenges once I have my foot stepped into the career. Although I believe I have an emotionally strong personality, this career as a social worker still can be stressful. As my responsibility to make decisions about the welfare of the children and families, I may be faced with difficult situations such as not being able to help everyone in the way I hope. Some of my clients or cases may be stuck because of obstacles created by
Having to make time for the customers taught me patience and to feel confident when working with people. This links with social workers due to their demanding profession, needing to be able to manage heavy workload and manage their time effectively for professionals to be able to access the best outcomes for their clients. Furthermore, for over 5 years I have been a young carer for my mother who has health problems. Having spent some years as a young carer, means I already take responsibility for myself as well as others and being surrounded with social workers in my life due to being a young carer it’s had a crucial part in building my understanding of what social work entails. I’ve also done work experience in a primary school, which (through practical learning) has given me an opportunity to know what it means to provide service for children and staff professionals.
Social work is all about understanding and making a difference in people’s lives. I am very passionate about actively helping people overcome their problems and have the best quality of life they possible can. I understand that social work is a challenging occupation; however, I believe I have the skills and determination to pursue a career in social work. My main curricular interests are in social subjects such as geography and history. I enjoy finding out about the world and the people.
The cornerstone of Social Work, comes from the kind, caring, supporting and loving the act of compassion for others. With the focus on helping others to better themselves for a better future. I originally became interested in the Social Work field when I started with the Department of Human Services-Child Welfare Services Unit as a Case Support Aide. I was drawn to the idea of helping people, in fact helping people has always been an important part of my life. As I advanced on in my career the passion for helping others became more evident and I realize that I needed to obtain a Bachelor’s Degree in order to become an effective contributor in my line of work. I loved working as an assistant to Social Workers, but I knew I had a lot more
