My objective for undertaking graduate studies at Fordham University is to receive my Master’s degree in Clinical Social Work. I believe that social work is a very rewarding career that comes with challenges that I would like to be a part of. Growing up in a very family orientated household that stressed the importance in selfless service leads me to pursue a career in social work. The idea of helping others and being that person who changes a human being life for the better gives me a sense of satisfaction. While growing up, I use to have an elderly neighbor that lived alone. My neighbor at the time was working past her retirement age in order to pay her bills. When eventually her car broke down and was not able to afford to fix it, which …show more content…
I explained to her that I did not think nursing is my calling and it is making me miserable. After talking to the advisor and explaining what I love doing, she sent me to go speak to a social work advisor because she thinks that I am in the wrong field. My social work advisor suggested that I take an introduction class for social work to see what I think of it. And so I did, from then on I was certain that social work was my calling. I immediately made the decision to pursue my career as a generalist practitioner. During my last year of undergrad social work, I have been a social work intern at St. Cabrini of Westchester Nursing home, located in Dobbs Ferry, NY. Since the first day of my internship at Cabrini, there has not been a day that was not exciting for me. I am so fascinated by the role of a social worker in a nursing home. I have been able to learn now to advocate for the residents with any issue such as insurances, finances, and issues with staff, family members or personal. I was also allowed to attend care plan meetings, discharge meetings, and assist in residential
I cannot emphasize enough the passion I have for child welfare services, I like helping individuals, children to be exact. I cannot see myself doing anything else with my life I never wanted to do anything else in life. I have demonstrated a great deal of capacity for success in the Indiana child welfare scholars program by a number of things: one, staying commented to one major; two presenting myself as a practicing child welfare worker; three, pushing myself to always do better in my classes. Once I knew I wanted to go to college in order to achieve my dream social work was my only option. If I did anything else it would have been for the money I would not have been for the right respectable reasons.
I am Veronica Ruiz a first-generation student at Wenatchee Valley College. I will be transferring to Eastern Washington University this fall to pursue my bachelor’s degree in social work. I became interested in social work since I was young. I was born in Morelia, Michoacán and my parents made the sacrifice of migrating to the United States when I was very young. Upon our arrival, we found many support around the community, but in specific I received great help from the school’s social worker.
Ever since I was young, I have had the desire to be of help to the people who were less fortunate. Growing up was quite challenging for my family and I. We had an impoverished life where we lived in a 4-bedroomed house that housed 16 members of our family. We lived with two aunties and their children. Sometimes we would go without meals, water, and other necessities.
Seeking the social work training which furnishes me the chance to deepen specialized knowledge of social work, acquire professional techniques and boost my helping skills. On account of my similar traumatic experience, I have deep sympathy for children in high-risk family. Understand the children’s solitariness and helplessness. I had struggled with suffering many years. Without giving up,I got rid of an extreme pessimist and kept a healthy mind after all.
When I decided to pursue a degree in social work; I decided that I wanted to become an LSCW. After achieving this, I intend to give counseling services to victims of sexual assault and domestic violence. I hope to gain more knowledge and to develop skills towards providing counseling. I wish to excel at the micro level to offer the best care possible for surviving victims. I intend to finish this program with the same dedication I have shown throughout my undergraduate degree.
I an undergraduate student that is passionate about social work as a whole, along with the direct assistance of vulnerable communities. I aim to graduate with a Bachelor’s of Social Work under Northern Arizona University’s BSW program with a GPA of 3.6 or higher. Within this degree, I will be involved in a social work internship program for at least one semester to expand my experiences in field work. Because I aspire to be a licensed clinical social worker, I am working towards achieving a Masters of Social Work from a graduate school accredited by the Council on Social Work Education (CSWE). I intend on getting licensed in California.
Growing up, when asked to pick one word to describe myself, I always chose the word helpful. I chose the word helpful because no matter the situation I was willing to help anyone. At the age of 14 my helpful attitude was challenged when my 4 and 5-year-old nephews were put in foster care. At the time I was to young to truly understand what was going on. One thing I did know is I couldn’t help them because it was out of my control.
Inspired by my mom and various other members of my family encouraged me to choose Social Work as my major. My mother, my primary inspiration, has worked in the child welfare system for several years. My grandparents serve as foster parents and work as trainers for prospective foster parents. My cousin, Xavier, was placed in the foster care system as a newborn and remained in it until my aunt and uncle adopted him at age two. These individuals have sparked passion in me to contribute to this field of work.

The field of social work is boundless, and my educational attainment from the bachelor of social work program at Grand Valley State University has adequately prepared me to enter the field. However, by obtaining a master’s degree in social work, I will only be further expanding my opportunities and amassing my knowledge and understanding of diverse populations and the field. At this time, I am motivated to pursue a master’s degree in social work, because I want to serve our country and practice in the field of social work; I want to be an United States Navy Social Worker. However, the U.S. Defense Department requires social workers to obtain their master’s degree before signing with any military branch. Moreover, I am motivated to obtain my MSW, so
I am a self-motivated and dependable with a dedicated approach to training and academic advancement. Possessing caring and approachable demeanor, which is invaluable for this field, I am also inquisitive and always looking to sample new things. My brother in law was undergoing depression and unfortunately terminated his life while I was in high school. It was a very tragic moment for both families.
I have desired to enter the field of Social Work for as long as I can remember. Caring for others has always been second nature to me. Over the years I have been exposed to many different life experiences, which have introduced me to a wide variety of people, many of them dealing with a multitude of different life hurts which includes addiction, abuse, and mental illness. Having been exposed to such diverse life experiences, the Lord has taught me to love the hurting, and has filled me with a desire to help those in need. I have, for many years, had a soft spot for young moms that are living with an unplanned pregnancy and contemplating adoption.
The following essay is based on the statement of intent I submitted with my application for the BSW program and furthers my reflection on how my personal growth and development throughout my personal, professional and educational experiences influence my outlook and future goals as a returning professional. Before entering the Bachelor of Social Work (BSW) program at McGill I worked as a health care activist and was motivated to continue working in this capacity after completing the degree, however, through the various classes, course material, and peer discussions I have been able to deepen my thought process and refine my critical thinking on how I can use the multiple components of my life experiences to better contribute to the solution
I am applying to the two year program at Stony Brook University because I want to further my education so that I can pursue my goal of helping others achieve a successful and productive life. My passion originates from realizing that there is a need for social workers who can make a difference in people’s life by being supportive and providing the necessary aid needed for everyday survival. Therefore, I believe by completing my master’s degree in social work I can help build a better world by providing care and services that is imperative and vital for survival. There have been many experiences that have influenced my goal to be a social worker. I have learned through personal and profession experience that helping people can have a huge impact.
The decision to pursue my education in social work at Dalhousie University was not an easy one. While I was growing up, my career choice changed all of them time, but I always knew that I wanted to do something fulfilling, in which I could “help” and support people. My mom was a nurse and always loved helping people; I always figured I would follow in her footsteps, however I learned at an early age that sciences do not come easy to me. Unfortunately, my mom lost her battle to breast cancer when I was eight years old, so I hope that by me helping people socially, rather than medically like she did, will continue her legacy.
