The person that I will describe is Thomas. He is one of my friends and comes from a rich family in Hong Kong. He attempts to acquire U.S. citizenship because U.S has better welfare and environment, compared to Hong Kong. Hong Kong is a crowded city where people do not live along well with each others. Also, Hong Kong did not develop well in past few years because many riots happened and Chinese government strongly intervened in and destroyed Hong Kong's independent law's system. In contrast, U.S. has huge space for people to live, and the Americans in U.S are nice to get along with. Also, U.S has a perfect law's system as its Americans can get a fair treatment from it. I have been asked “Where do you come from?” many times, and still I struggle to come up with a definite answer. It’s usually one of the first introductory questions someone asks and I always respond with my own set of questions. Do you mean where I was last? California. Where I have lived the longest? Germany. Where I was born? Panama. . . . Oh, is that what you meant? Calling myself a citizen of the world is not at all farfetched—rather, it’s an accurate descriptor of who I am.

It is known that China is extremely overpopulated with its 1,354,040,000 citizens as of January 2013 and “ as of September 2013, that number had grown even further to 1,360,720,000”. There’s “363.3 people per square mile!” (WPR). I’ve been interested in the future of our world and what will happen as we continue to grow. Knowing that “China represents 19.48 percent of the world’s total population” (China Employed Persons) helped me decide on which country I wanted to focus my report on.

China is a heavily populated place compared to the U.S. and other countries. It has been for many years and the population will not lower anytime soon. As a result of the rapid population growth during the 50s and 60s, China began their One-Child Policy in 1979 which led to forced abortions and the current low population growth.

In 2017, the world population is at 7.5 billion people. China is the most populated country in whole world. It has “1.379 billion” (Google) people making it the largest populated country. China is also the most largest aging population making it have a high life expectancy and the high accelerating aging rate in the world (Zheng, 2012). China has advanced with technology and also with age. Only “three decades ago, only 5 percent of the populations was over 65; today, 123 million people, or 9 percent of the population, are over this age which a report released by the government states that China will be the world's’ most aged society in 2030” (Huang, 2013). Since, China is the most largest aging population this means that less people are dying and more are living. Since, more people are living this means that need of long-term care, health insurance, adjustment of policies and how to make everyone comfortable living. China is the only country that has an older population exceeding 100 million and annually increases at a rate of 3.2. A dependent territory of China is Hong kong that has “7.347 million people” (Google). Hong kong also has a fast growing aged population. Hong kong is also trying to adjust their long-term care system, pensions system and policies to accommodate everyone living situation.

As a result of the 100 years that Hong Kong spent as a colony of Great Britain, there are significant ethnic and cultural differences between Hong Kong and the Chinese mainland that have led to a escalation in tensions, currently cumulating in the umbrella revolution in 2014.

While it is a true that the one child policy has reduced the birth rate dramatically since its enactment in 1979, the sex ratio between boys and girls have also change where more boys are being born than girls. According to China's 2000 census, there were 14 million births from November 1999 to November 2000, with a sex ratio of 116.9. China's birth sex ratio has been increasing for the past twenty years: the sex ratio at birth was 108.5 in 1981, 111.3 in 1989, and it fluctuated from 115.6 to 118.7 between 1994 and 1995. In China, between 1950 and 2015, the overall fertility rate per woman declined from 6.11 to 1.66 due to the one child policy in 1979. In terms of mortality, the total mortality rate decline from 22.2 to 7.2 per 10,000 population over the same time, contributing to a steady rise in life expectancy (WHO, 2015). Life expectancy at birth has risen from 44.6 years in 1950 to 75.3 years in 2015, and is likely to be at 80 years by 2050 (UNDESA, 2013a).

Hollywood is often seen as the Mecca of the rich and famous. However, in the international market few places can rival its Indian sister: Bollywood. Well known for superb musical numbers and over the top action films, many stars have made a living performing in movies that would rival any film in the world.
