“Where is the Love” Black Eyed Peas The song “Where is the Love?” has many sociological concepts put into the lyrics. It is the first song that popped up in my head when seeing this assessment and if you have ever heard the song then you would know why I chose this specific song. The band in this song expresses the the world's issues and they express their view on the world and the actions others make. The main idea of the song is concentrated on the reality and how the world is changing. The song expresses how people are not living up to society's values and norms. It suggest that the socialization is at fault and that they contribute to improvement of self being. The song implies the way society goes against values and norms by one of the very first lyrics in the song. The lyric goes, “What’s wrong with the world, mama, People livin’ like they ain’t got no mamas…” (lines 1-2). This makes one aware of the lack of values in one's family. Values is the belief or an idea that a person or group has to determine is correct or not. Another verse of how the band shows one disobedience of the values and norms comes toward the middle of the song. “People killin', people dyin’, Children hurt and you hear them cryin, Can you practice what you preach, And would you turn the other cheek…” (lines 50-53). These verses show of society has failed to act stable and logical way that society once viewed as correct living. These actions show that citizens have not lived up to the expectations of society. Social norms are likes the laws of society. Laws are things that are illegal behaviour and norms are like behaving in a way society wouldn’t like. For example being in gangs, like the bloods, or the crips, or a big group that goes against society's norms like racial groups. An example of a racial group would be the KKK. In this song the band uses verses to show violent norms and states about how society still has hatred groups. The verses wrap around hatred groups with terrorism living in the United States. The song was written in the 2003 and states about then 9/11 attacks. “Nations droppin' bombs, Chemical gasses fillin' lungs of little ones, With ongoing' sufferin' as the youth die young, So ask yourself is the lovin'
The song “Where’s the Love” by the Black Eyed Peas, which was written in 2003, interprets the message from the author that there is massive discrimination and hatred among people in the United States. In addition, the lyrics suggests that love is lost among human kindness. The Black Eyed Peas open their song using a rhetorical question,“What's wrong with the world, mama?” (LINE 1), by doing so the audience thinks about the tragedies taking place on a larger scale.
This song implies that individual’s are violating the norms and values of society. They start the song with a verse that expresses

Song lyrics, whether they are good or bad, have a profound effect on people’s lives. The varieties of music are accepted by many. However, throughout the years, there has been an increased acceptance of songs that promote violence. This has led some to research the effect these violent songs can have on people and society as a whole. Aggressive lyrics encourages violence in society because such music increases negative emotions and thoughts, influences aggressive behavior, and affect the upbringing of children and adolescents.
Following 9/11, violence and hatred were taking place on US soil. The song addressed this problem by saying “Overseas, yeah we try to stop terrorism, but we still got terrorists here livin' in the USA, the big CIA, the Bloods and The Crips and the KKK” (Black Eyed Peas). This line addressed the Iraq war, but its true point was that violence and racism were also issues needing dealt with. The Bloods, the Crips, and the KKK were all gangs that were active when this song was released.
The song is set against the backdrop of the Baltimore city riots and Son of Nun said "This song is before and after Black Lives Matter, it's the same song we've been singing since we got off the boat. Y'all just haven't been paying attention. It's about fighting for each other in the face of white supremacy, seeing connections with other people's struggles, and recognizing our own

Black Eyed Peas in “Where Is the Love” have used repetition, rhyming and figurative language. The song has rhyming throughout all the lyrics to make it catchy and so that it gets stuck in people’s minds so that they remember the song and the issues that have been mentioned. This song criticises the hypocrisy that he sees in the U.S. politicians and parents in “the great country of ours” as Eminem described the Unite States. Eminem receives allegation due to his improper use of words and foul languages in his music, politicians, and government are trying to destroy his music career on influencing the youth’s criminal behavior. He express his anger and offense to those who tried to put an end in his music career, Lynne Cheney and former Vice-president Al Gore’s wife who went against Eminem, this line also portrayed the use of freedom of speech at its full potential as his lyrics are objectionable. This demonstrates the inconsistency of the American social structure showing the democracy of hypocrisy. A strong comparison between United State of America and the divided state of embarrassment.
Although it was written in 2006, this song could also apply to society today. We are currently living in a digital world. Music and social media sites such as Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram are the main platform for the current generation. Many people use social media sites to express their thoughts and opinions about certain issues. And artists use music and their lyrics to get their point across to their intended audience.
This song is about gang violence. Some guys are about to beat up a boy but Michael intervenes and they all begin to dance. He is saying that it is ridiculous to even be fighting. The boy is trying to defend himself but Michael is saying that he doesn’t have to risk his life in a fight to prove himself. Michael tells him to just leave it alone. He tells him it doesn’t matter who is wrong or right.
The song “Where Is The Love” by the Black Eyed Peas is a very heartfelt prayer for the healing and suffering in the world and society that we live in. I feel like the song is about exactly what the title is asking. Where is the love? Sometimes we have to stop, look around us and think about the relationships we have with other people. Are our relationships built on foundations of true love, compassion and kindness? Although the songs was originally released in 2003, most of the issues the song focuses on are still relevant today, in 2017. Which really makes me wonder, where IS the love? Surely after 14 years, things would have changed. Hate and war have existed since the beginning of humanity. Crime is an enormous part of our society, in the past and in the present. Imagine a world that is crime free, the perfect utopia. A world where everyone accepts their neighbour for the person they truly are, without racism, without judgement, without oppression. “Where is the love?” recognizes chaos in a broken world, intoxicated with violence and hate.
He explains on how violent his life was and how he had to survive. In the song he mentions “ The projects is full of bullets, the bodies is droppin” showing that where he
In fact, in the description of the song, it says it features the world. In other words, the song is not aimed at one part of the population or excluding any part of the population. In addition, in a verse it says “But if you only have love for your own race, then you only leave space to discriminate.” The lyrics are saying that you cannot only love the people who are like you and that you have to be open minded and try to accept people that are nothing like you. Another part of the lyrics say that “chemical gasses fillin’ lungs of the little ones.” People need to know that you are hurting children when you are aiming at a whole part of the population, and these children are supposed to be the future of our world.
This song is historically important because it caused an uproar of the new wave generation, by encouraging free thinking and the exercising of rights. This song is a perfect representation of punk as a genre because not only does it have a representation of the rebelliousness towards society, it also explains the rebelliousness of rising up against the people in charge and taking control of your life, without letting the people around you disrupt your flow. The song has an antiaesthetic attached to it because of the repetitive music style along with the growls and yelling by the lead singer. Instead of playing beautiful music, the band plays whaat can be considered noisy music. This song morally is meant to give the listeners of this music a desire to speak up for themselves and not to put up with things they don’t
