The most famous gift of Socrates to Western civilization is that of the Socratic Method. Socrates believed in deductive reasoning, or the need to reason about specific facts from principles. The Socratic Method involves the student in the learning process through questioning, and even when the teacher wishes the student to arrive at a specific answer, it is the student who is encouraged to draw the conclusion. The teacher does not lecture or impose the lesson upon the student. "Socratic questioning is a systematic process for examining the ideas, questions, and answers that form the basis of human belief. I work with someone who asks many questions, she is inquisitive, curious and a critical thinker. I have the questions in my head, but do not voice them as often as I should. My assumptions are that if someone is asking me to perform a task at work, they want it done the way they ask for it to be done and they would know better than I would. The phrase “Socratic method” gets tossed around quite a bit during the course of a liberal arts education. One way of describing this method is teaching by means of asking. The thought is that by asking questions, a teacher may trigger some thought in the student’s mind which comes about more organically and effectively than by the means of traditional lecture. There are and were countless people who lived happily and were aware that they were. All these people that have their own philosophies that have spread their ideas to others certainly would not be doing so if they did not know if they were really happy or not. Furthermore, one can go as far as to find their happiness by asking such a question. By asking yourself this, you begin to give the state of your happiness some thought, which can then lead to happiness. Essentially, seeking happiness is necessary in life. We often hope to find happiness from other people, other things around us and forget that we can create it by ourselves. The novel “The happiness project” by Gretchen Rubin is sufficient evidence. The author states, “I am happy – but I’m not as happy as I should be.”(13) Then she started a project within a year to change her life and seek for a happier life. By making a list of things she has to do in the next twelve months, the author have done many things which affects her “Vitality” (1), her “Marriage” (38), her “Leisure” (112), her “Friendship” (141),etc. positively so that she can achieve her goal, which is a life full filed of happiness as she dreamed before. We can also do that. We know that if everyone of us set a goal and live purposely, we are all happy. However, we can be happier if we know how to change ourselves on the right way. We can make ourselves happy by doing simple things in our everyday life.
This particular questions will drive curiosity and can remove ruts. The idea of this questions to engage both sides of the brain to overall increase innovation. Developing 2-footed questions is a way to trigger deeper ideas that you would not traditionally get. In addition, when you use this strategy to inquire another person, you must show respect for their knowledge, input, and experience. Unique insight will integrate much faster when a facilitator welcome ideas across both sides of the brain. Knowing this will help me implement this approach in my own work
What is the most important thing in life? The answer is simple, it is knowledge. Most of us seek answers to things that we do not understand or things we want to know more about while some just ask the question but never seek the answer. In some occasions, the answer is out of our reach. I have asked thousands of questions in my life and the ones that bother me the most are the ones I cannot seem to find the answers to. Most of my questions revolve around human behavior in all honesty. Many people think and act in a way that I just cannot seem to understand and that is extremely frustrating at time, especially when it involves the people I care about.
