Solution to Divorce

Dear Legislators:
It is said by most scholarly articles and books they over 50 percent of marriages in the US end in divorce. Although this may not be the truth for some marriages, it is no secret that the California and even national divorce rate is at an all time high. Divorce is also the main cause of the degradation of the modern American family. Divorce can have lasting effects on all parties involved. It is a lasting and trying situation that effects children and causes a detrimental and dramatic financial problem for the husband and wife. As a result, I am proposing that you take action and mandate a few changes to the legal process of marriage and divorce. My proposal, would

The potential effect that divorce can have on children is something that is not always realized by parents. Many things come into play when a divorce involves children. The couple must decide who will have custody of the children most of the time or if there will be joint custody. If one parent decides to move, then they must make additional custody arrangements making it difficult for the children to spend equal time with both parents. It's very complicated and takes a lot of time and energy but that pales in comparison to what the child or children will have to go through. They don't get to see the workings of a two-parent household and may begin to believe that this is how life should be. Quite the contrary. A two-parent home is supposed to be the norm. The sessions that they'd have to take would illustrate the happenings after a divorce and could possibly cause the couple to rethink their decision.
Another proposal would be for couple to have a wait period of 1 year before a divorce is able to be granted. This way, the couple will be able to reevaluate and possibly consider options to get their marriage back on track. This will also give those couples ample time to light the fire that they believe has been put out. They can be given time to talk over why they can't see eye to eye, go through tests and counseling, and maybe also go on a trip to see of they can get some alone time.
