Solving Problems in the Workplace Sharla Burrell American InterContinental University Abstract The function of this paper is to assess two different workplace scenarios and to provide answers on how I would handle the situations if I were in the position of manager. Using resources that I retrieved from the internet and using supervisory skills learned and implemented in my working experiences, I have written two plans, that I feel, could be used to successfully correct the reported problems. In these two plans, I discuss and have listed key elements needed in any situation to resolve unwanted problems in the workplace. Key elements that I feel relevant to this discussion are as follows: forcing collaborative thinking, using …show more content…

Many people might believe that crucial conversations are witnessed in more political situations, but these types of conversation appear in our daily lives fairly often. Some typical crucial conversations in the work environment could be reporting bad news to a superior, approaching a coworker about them breaking a company rule, or discussing work effort with a team member. These situations appear in our home and social lives in the forms of disagreements in a relationship, dealing with roommate problems, and talking to a friend about participating in dangerous behaviors.
TEKS:6.1.B use a problem-solving model that incorporates analyzing given information, formulating a plan or strategy, determining a solution, justifying the solution, and evaluating the problem-solving process and the reasonableness of the solution;
They enlisted volunteers to help work on the central problems reported by employees. The team soon began to question the effectiveness and efficiency of standard practices. With the help of all employees, the teams eventually devised a list of 30 suggestion that would greatly improve the working environment.
In response to the recent decline in sales in my department and without a clear path for resolution, I propose the implementation of a problem-solving process which is applicable not only to this situation but also issues which the future will bring. There is strong evidence that “a structured problem-solving approach has a direct correlation to an organization’s performance and the ability [to] repeat successful outcomes” (Marksberry, Bustle, & Clevinger, 2011, p. 838). Therefore, it is not only logical to establish a standardize process but also imperative to remain competitive in our market. Below are the steps of my proposed problem-solving process.
All of these situations are becoming more and more common in the new workforce. In order for a business to run smoothly all of the workers, managers and subordinates need to be able to find common ground to accomplish the set tasks. There is no avoiding your coworkers so this is inevitable.
Although many of us go great lengths to avoid it, sometimes it is just inevitable. People in the workplace setting will always have different ideas, values, and attitudes than others around them. A conflict can arouse in any given setting, and the affect it can have on those involved can either be negative or positive. Depending on the approach and strategies utilized during and after a conflict will determine the result of the conflict. Conflict helps people recognize legitimate differences within an organization or profession and serves as a powerful motivator to improve performance and effectiveness, as well as satisfaction (CCN, 2017). This paper will identify and explore a particular recurring conflict in the
group of personalities things can become increasingly trying. These are people provoke a particular impression about themselves and carry distinct and strong characteristics about their personalities. These people can be found in almost every workplace, you can find one undercover boss, the workplace parasite, and the at work savior.
Collaborating is the direct inverse of avoiding. Collaborating includes an initiative to work with others to discover some arrangement that completely fulfils their concerns. It aims to explore an issue to identify the fundamental wants and needs of the two people. Collaborating between two people may appear as investigating a difference to know from each other 's experience or attempting to find an inventive answer for an interpersonal issue. This strategy is helpful when it comes to solving the real issues. It also provides a win-win outcome, mutual respect and trust, positive relationships between all parties, which are very important in work environment. Since it does not lead to circumstances where somebody wins while some other loses, it maintains the peace in the organisation. However, it takes a lot of time and it is not suitable in the circumstance where there is short time to solve the conflict.
Many organizations have difficulty forming effective working teams and that is because labor and management lack shared values. Another reason is because of the structure and function of problem solving teams was not established according to behavior science concepts and techniques. Additionally, it is important to consider that it is not always necessary for supervisors
In today’s world teamwork is being utilized by companies across the globe. Employers are seeing the value of teamwork and what can be accomplished when people put the strengths together. These teams consist of people from different cultures with different personalities. Conflict is inevitable when it comes to group dynamics. Conflict resolution is necessary to keep the group functioning efficiently. This paper will analyze group dynamics and focus on conflict resolution by way of communication.
One needs to work as a team –work attitude, bullying and dominating are restraints to growth and team –work.
Problem solving is a universal process that allows us to make decisions on everything from what to eat and what to wear. These steps contain the necessary knowledge that has been constructed through previous life experiences.
